    Sydney NYE 2013/14 advice...

Hi, I will be travelling from Nov in and around Sydney and wanted to experience NYE in sydney, but I am finding that I may have left it late to arrange accommodation that's not really expensive. Any ideas or advice would be great
  2. Yep I know - Be prepared and all of that - what am I thinking as I am so not!!! But to be honest everywhere and everything I want to do is going to be so difficult - I wanna see the fireworks but I can't stand the thought of the humongous crowds, let alone getting back home. So I thought, we'd (partner and I) would go for a drive in NSW head towards Dubbo or some such place. However question is will motels be open and are they likely to be an extravagant price? I would love some ideas, as this is my FIRST NYE proper in Australia and obviously I would like something a little special to remember it by. p.s. - I spent Christmas morning at Dee Why beach and it was fabulous - where else could you be in a bikini drinking champagne!

    NYE in Sydney

G'day, Last year my wife and I spent NYE on the side of the road in Vaucluse, watching the fireworks from afar. This year, my father-in-law and brother-in-law are coming to stay, and we will be flying back to Sydney for the new year celebrations. Last year we said that the next time we spent NYE in Sydney we would buy tickets to an event in the harbour, rather than fighting the crowds for a decent spot at 9 am in the morning and spending all day waiting for the fireworks. However, with family being with us this year, we are conscious that we can't just book to attend an event where tickets cost $500 each... This obviously rules out any harbour cruises. Does anyone know what other events are on, perhaps at the bars and restaurants in Circular Quay, where tickets don't cost much more than $100pp? Also, I know that my father-in-law will be uncomfortable going to anywhere where there is any sniff of a dress code, so what do you reckon? Many thanks in advance...

    NYE Sydney

Anyone going to see the fireworks? I went in 05/06 and I am going back for the first time since then. Looking to go to Mrs Maquaries point as I can drink beer and it's a great view from there. What are other people doing?

    Things to do on NYE?

Hi everyone, this is our first Christmas and New Year in Melbourne and had a fab relaxed Christmas day. We are wondering what to do for NYE and not looking to break the bank to do it! ANy suggestions? What do you all have planned? I see Fed Square in the city has an event on, anyone know if this is good/ frustratingly busy or not worth bothering with? We stay down in Mornington, is there anything in and around this area worth considering or is it all about the city on NYE. v
  7. So, my mum is coming to visit just after Chrimbo. She's never been to Australia before, and so is very, very excited. She wants to spend NYE in Sydney and see the fireworks of course. I'm thinking about one of those dinner&cruises around the harbour. Anyone been on one? Got any good companies to recommend? Willing to consider something else, but what I'm looking for is something that is going to be (maybe a cliche but) totally amazing that will make everyone else jealous etc etc. Idea-me-up, gang
  8. Hi, We're a couple coming to Australia, travelling down the east coast from November 10th. We didnt realise hostels would book up SO early! Any tips on where would have room over 30th/31st for a reasonable price? Thanks
