  1. Hi all, OK first post... hopefully someone can help me out and maybe put my mind at rest (or not). Im a mechanic, 26, with qualifications and experience (carried out apprenticeship with VW), i gained my qualifications 7 years ago. Im applying for permanent residency soon and my main concern is with the vetassess interview via video call, i would really like to hear from people that have experienced this part of the process. I know myself i'm capable of doing my job but with it being years ago that i was last trained, and often rarely encountering some of the aspects of what i was originally trained in day-to-day, i'm worried what they will ask me and whether i will have the correct answers for them to pass! I am worried mainly about questions on testing electronics, auto gearboxes... areas that i haven't had much to do with, things that i know i could repair but still i'm worried about answering questions on them. i have read a couple of threads on a similar topic but the only answers i came across was people saying 'don't worry, its not actually that bad'........... i'm still worrying! lol I guess i would love to hear from someone who has done the interview as part of there process and to explain what it was like in a bit more detail... Is it hard?! What sort of questions would they ask? How in-depth do they expect you to go? How would they ask them? Is it more of a conversation than a test? How long dose it take? How would you recommend i prepare? Im not trying to worry too much but it just feels to me like this would be the deal breaker of the whole application! If anyone feels like they could help me out, it would be much appreciated! Thanks, James.
  2. Hey guys I wouldnt normally do this but OH and I were trying to fill in the TRA and ended up arguing. So (and I would never normally do this ) but can anyone give me tips! He is going over as a motor mechanic and its how to script out the training reference etc (have got the examples)................. Anyhoo it may just be me but cos i'm used to doing paper stuff i feel like doing it myself and just let him look at my drafts!! cos i'm sure i'd get it done quicker! Am I just being a pain?? on the other hand dont answer that!! it could be cos i'm v tired...............:arghh:
  3. Hi Everyone, I just found out I passed the written assessment for Vetassess and have booked my practical for May 2010 (Motor Mechanic). Has anyone sat it recently? If so what did the test really involve? (I know what they say on the Vetassess website but was looking for a 1st hand account of what they tested, how formal it was, what the pressure is like etc). I'm not sure where to focus my efforts on in preparing for it so was hoping someone has some info they could share! All hints / advice / tips gratefully received  Thanks Steve

  13. Hi All Anyone in the motor trade used ATA certification as part of their proof for visa application? Visa agent asked if we could find UK company that could certify hubbys skills as car painter, but I'm getting the vibe from other sources that we would need to have this done via Vetasses? Anyone know anything? He is booked for ATA certification this Thursday so would appreciate any feedback especially if it can save us the money of the certification Cheers Candice

    WA Motor Mechanic Vetasses !!!

Hello all, i am very new to PIO and would love to hear any suggestions and personal experiances. We are a family of 5, OH and I two daughters almost 6 and 3 and a son 9months. We have only just begun out journey. It seems rather daunting at present but sure it will get worse. We are using an Agent "Concept Australia". OH has to do TRA/Vetassess for Motor Mechanics and then SS WA and the 175 visas. A long process, wish it were over already lol. Any ideas how long this could take? anyone just recently done this with SS and motor mechanics? We are thinking about renting north of Perth - any suggestions probably could not afford more than $300 a week at most till we are well settled. REally want to live in a lovely child friendly neighborhood with parks and schools close by possible walking distance. thanks for your time.

    Motor Mechanic Employer Sponsorship

Hi, my hubby and I are waiting for WA to open so that we can hopefully apply for state sponsorship. With the uncertainty when this will happen we are looking at possible employer sponsorship. My hubby has successfully completed his VETASSESS and we are attending the DIAC EXPO next weekend. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to go about approaching employers for sponsorship. Is there a website anywhere that details businessess which will sponsor? We have written to Audi Australia because my hubby works for Audi but have had no response. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Dawn
