    Moving to Cairns Sept 2015

Hey all, My husband and I have just made the decision, after six month deliberation, to move to Cairns . It's all pretty exciting. Our situation is that I'm a complete Pom but Nick, though born in Devon, emigrated to Cairns when his was 10. He moved back at 23 to marry me (very sweet, I know) and now, after seven years and a baby (Jeremy, 10 months, also very sweet), it's time to go back. Nick's a dual citizen so Jeremy can claim citizenship by decent. I just need a spousal visa which is pricey but seems straight forward. So the count down begins! Obviously lots of research needs doing and we're very aware that although Nick has lived in Cairns previously, he hasn't for 9 years now (he spent his last two years in Oz at the JCU Townville campus) and a lot can change in that time. We're in Cairns in August for my sister-in-law's wedding so will some reacquainting then. I do have a couple of burning questions though, any responses will be gratefully received. Firstly, how did you tell you friends and family you were moving? We're facing a mix of elation from those living in Oz and real sadness for those to be left behind. We haven't told any of them yet as we're going to see how we feel in August just to doubly make sure it's the right thing for us (we're sitting at 90% currently). We don't want to upset anyone/raise any hopes if it's not going to happen. Secondly, we've got about 18 months to sort through all our stuff and answer the big question, to ship or not to ship? What's the general consensus? We might buy some Aussie plugs while we're out there and have re-wiring party as a leaving thing (oh yes, we know how to have a good time). Lastly, but probably the most complex, house buying. Will we need to live in Australia for a bit first to build up a credit rating or can we just dive on in? Is there any possibility of buying before we arrive? We have my in-laws (one of which is a carpenter-builder) who can check out properties for us. Or is that just far too complicated to even consider? Great to be a part of this community! I've already picked up so many useful bits.
  2. hi all, i submitted my partner visa application last sept, i just got an email from our CO asking for more evidence. Since we submitted it my partner has changed jobs - his salary isnt very high because he's an intern still- about 45K a year. He has also bought a townhouse since we submitted evidence. I was wondering wheather telling immigration that he has a morgage now is a good thing or not? considering most of his pay goes on it. Very stressed out so any help would be great

  4. Hi can anyone advise me on morgages in Aussie> We are aiming to move to Adelaide next August and as such my partner is willing to sell his house here. I have past debt here which i am slowly paying off (difficult when on maternity leave) but Chris is willing to pay 10 grand of it for me which hopefully should only leave me with my student loan which im hoping to pay off from aussie if i have to. My concern is that this debt would hinder my chances of getting a morgage in Adelaide? We would be able to put down a deposit and ill have a good job straight away but im a little worried.

    morgage on a sir visa?

hi,we'll hopefully be going to adelaide on a sir visa next year.we currently own our own home in the uk.does anyone know how we would stand for getting a morgage with this visa?or would we have to wait 2 years for perminant?any help greatfully recieved.
  8. Question??? I began a new morgage deal in July last year. It is a repayment morgage that has early repayment charges for each year(3 year deal). I have been told that as with the Bank charges (that loads of people are claiming back from their banks as they are illegal) the early repayment charges you pay when ending your morgage are illegal to, and should not be charged. Does anyone know if this is true. I believe there is a website about this and you can even print off county court judgements(at a charge) if they contest. Has anyone heard of this??? Lindsay x
  9. Can anyone give me an approx cost monthly that they are paying for a morgage, ie how many $ per month to borrow $100,000 etc??? I seem to notice that the interest rate there is higher than here. I am no financial wizard so just looking for a approx figure so that we can discuss if we should look to long term let (as on a temp visa) or if it would be best to plough that money in to buy and keep everything crossed they let us stay  Thank in advance Em x
