  1. I told my other half - that's my reflection in my bathroom mirror, though I can hardly see her, having neglected my cleaning duties again - that I would 'just check to see if I had any messages.' Last night I turned off my computer at 2am then got up again at 3am to 'just have one more look.' My hands are shaking, I'm sweating, and, worst of all, my friends have started calling me a P (IO) Head! What can I do? I am turning this computer off RIGHT NOW! If i can only just push that switch.

  3. Hi Guys, My OH has a job a Cottesloe Golf Club and we are just waiting on our visa, should be max 6 months. My main thing is to try and fine out about areas that would be nice to live with 2 young children (2,4) I know that Cottesloe is very expensive, so was looking a bit more North like Double view, Scarborough, Duncraig etc Don't have a massive budget but was hoping $400/450 a week max as not to sure on oz bills etc I would be really grateful to anyone who can give me a bit more detail on some of these areas or surrounding suburbs as I want to bring our children up somewhere nice. Thanks for taking the time to read, look forward to hearing from some of you.
  4. Hi all, Its getting close for us. Skilled visa achieved and two job interviews whilst currently on hols / recci in WA, SA, NSW and QLD. Its been hectic. However a job in the centre of Sydney looks pretty hopeful (Kent St - Town Hall Station). Notwithstanding the cost of living in Sydney (ouch) - I would be grateful for feedback on good areas to rent an apartment, which is within 30 minutes commute to the centre, by public transport - either train, bus or ferry. Prepared to venture out a bit to get better value rental properties. Ideally would like a 2+ bed rental close to amenities (local shops, cafes etc) at a price of less than $650 - $700pw. Any advice on areas to look at (or indeed avoid) would be appreciated. Thanks, Martin

  6. ....since I was moaning to Cal that my Visa still hadn't arrived, and today we celebrate our 2nd anniversary in Aus. We've never regretted our move here and have a sense of contentment that we never had before. I'm proud of the children who just took the bull by the horns and got on with it, settling very quickly. (As a parent you do breath a hugh sigh of relief). I won't say our life is better, because we had a good life in the UK, our life is different, more relaxed and certainly more family orientated, we seemed to lose sight of that in the UK always being busy trying to fit things in rather than taking time to enjoy them. Even having dinner takes longer as we all sit and chat about our days. The bonus for us coming to Aus, hasn't been anything materialistic, but the quality of the time we're spending together as a family. We're happy, the kids are happy and our 17 year old cat who also came on the adventure is still with us - something we didn't expect but took a chance on lol Ali x

  12. Could this be the ultimate Sea Change for a pom travelling to Oz? An Australian Beach house with character that is furnished and ready to go whilst you find your dream home to buy and wait for your cargo to arrive! Many poms find it difficult finding a place to rent when they move to Australia The reality is that there are not ENOUGH rental places around for locals. There are many good tenants that are local and have references. It is far more simple and easy for the property managers to keep placing local people with good references in front of the queue. All too often when they see someone that is from outside of town ie UK they think it's all too difficult and risky to find you a placement. Agencies find it much easier to place a local tenant because they have current records. The key to overcoming this is knowing someone that can vouch for you and presenting agenices with a minimum of 3 months rent paid in advance. I have a beautiful place right on the beach about 40 minutes drive North of the Brisbane CBD. I have just sold this home and the new owner is organising for it to be furnished for a tenant looking for a sea change. This property will probably rent for $AUD500 per week.
