  2. Hi , we are moving over by March 2012 . I am looking at catholic schools around the shire area (caringbah /miranda/ sylvania)and possibly the hills areas. We have a Boy age 9 born 04/2002 and Girl 7 born 06/2004 and as they are currently attending a Cofe school here i wanted them to attend a catholic school over there. Does anyone know what chances there are off getting them a catholic school place mid term next year? I know our local uk church school is full and the waiting list is extensive but thought as you have to pay for the church schools there maybe there would be places or is that being optomistic? Could anyone also advice what school year they would be in ?? I think eldest would be year 5 on arrival and youngest year 3 is that correct?? My youngest is nearly 3 born 12/2008 could anyone tell me when she would be due to start kindergarden? And again what the waiting lists are like for preschools over there?? Thanks in advance for any help (finding it hard to get my head round their schools ) Mandy

  5. A friend at work is planning a trip to the UK in August this year (her first visit) and was wondering if anyone has heard of any cheap deals.
  6. yes, its true. Orders over £25, mainly books, cds and dvds, not third party seller stuff but a very good deal. So fill your boots with books at a third of what you'd pay in Oz, and with free postage ! Amazon.co.uk: Low Prices in Electronics, Books, Sports Equipment & more site only

  8. Hi all We are coming to Perth in mid February 2011 on WHV and just wondered what is the best way to go about finding joinery or carpentry work? We are pretty flexible about which suburb we work and live in. Also, what is the typical hourly rate of pay for this type of work? (Fully trained joiner with 10 years experience). Many thanks

Hi everyone My other half and I moved to Manly (Sydney) a few weeks ago- we absolutely love it, the weather, the beach, the lifestyle etc.. but would love to meet some other young people in the area! We're both working and are on a 457 visa so will be here for a while yet.. Just wondering if there's anyone out there that wants to meet new people, have a drink, etc? Would be great to know a few people nearby. We love our food, outdoors, camping, yoga, running, drinks, more food.. Get in touch! x
  11. Hi Again We have been looking in to our possibilities in our quest for moving to australia, I have passed skills tests and we are about to apply for our offshore 175 visa. We are now wondering if we will be able to change our application from an off shore to an onshore as we are on the verge of our house selling, I should also be getting a windfall around may next year which would enable us to live in aus comfortably while our onshore app is processed. My question is this: If we carry on and apply for our offshore Perm Res visa can I then change my application part way through to an onshore application easily enough??? Any help/advice on this matter would be useful Neil:biggrin:
  12. Hi, I am moving to Sydney with my boyfriend for approx. 6 months mid March and don't have a clue where to live. I have looked at other posts but many of them are aimed at families with children, to which we have different priorities. We are both in our mid 20s and currently live in the Clapham/ Balham area of London and would like something similar: a nice area, with lots of like-minded people. We're not party animals but do like the odd big night and will also want to be socialising as much as possible. We don't currently have jobs so it's not like we can focus on a specific area but I guess it makes sense to stay fairly central. I have heard some good things about the Eastern suburbs and understand they have good transport links. ANY advice would be much appreciated. On a different note if anyone fancies meeting up over there, please give me a shout. Thank you!!

Hi all, jsut wondering how many ppl out there are in there mid 20's-30's. no offence meant to those that aren't but i'm having a hard time finding ppl in my own age group. Seem to meet ppl who r older, which is great, or who r in their teens ( no one over their age group can relate to them lol) I would love to connect with ppl in my own age group who are either considering moving or are already here. :cute:
  16. Hi, We were in no special rush after submitting our 176 family sponsored in May. Having now been given CO and request for Meds and PCC, I'm getting worked up about what might happen next. Anyone else in a similar situation? Do you reckon we're close (meds to go off after 28th Oct.)? Mat
  17. Not sure what part of next year we'll be moving to Perth but it may be March rather than January. Can anyone tell me how the schools feel about enrolling children in school mid term? Also both my OH and myself hope to find full time work when we get there - do any of the schools offer after school care? Just thinking we wont have the support of family for after school when Im working and also for school holidays! One of the drawbacks I guess. Any advice would really help, thanks

  20. Hi all We're finally here!! Staying with friends on Pac Pines at the moment, container due to arrive around mid July, dogs due out of quarantine around the 10th July. Have started looking for rentals, couple of nice one's on Pacific Pines, but if anyone knows of any more, we need to get our skates on and start planning/renting. We're after a 3 /4 bed house, preferably pet friendly of course, but if they have to live outside we'll go with that, and up to around $450 pw. Any help or info. greatly appreciated! Cheers
  21. We are looking for a holiday rental in the Perth area from mid to late September 09 for about 4 weeks in total. Can any of you recommend any sites that we can look on for this, or personal recommendations i.e (a rental that you may have stayed in). This will be the begining of our move to oz so we are wanting it to be quite central to most places so that we can have a good look round. Also from your opionions do you think a 4 week holiday rental is long enough given the time of year we are coming over? We will be looking for a longer term let whilst at the holdiay rental. What do you recommend we should be looking at rate wise there will be 4 of us 2 adults and 2 children. Thanks in advance for your help Mrs Roofer
  22. Hi Everyone, Does anyone know of any primary schools that are open mid December that I would be able to visit? Ideally within the Eastern suburbs? I dont have children myself but my sister in law is looking for join us in Sydney and wants to get an idea of schooling but the problem we have is that she is visiting from December 17th to January 2nd and I know a lot close then for Christmas. Thanks!!
  23. Hi Everyone, I'll be moving to Perth for a while from mid October, and was wondering if anyone is interested in meeting up? Just turned 23, from London and looking to make some new friends while im out there as I'll be travelling with my cousin who has already settled there. I dont really wanna be attached to her hip all the time and would much rather find my own friends. Anybody out there looking for the same thing? Serene xx
  24. Hi All I'm Jaime & I'm forty few......... My other half & myself were granted our permanent residency visas last May but owing to setbacks beyond our control haven't made it over to Oz yet. I am finding it impossible to find well paid work in the area we live in, but my other half can, so I'm flying out all on my tod mid September, armed only with a suitcase & laptop & he will follow on once the property has sold. This could take some time:sad: I'm looking to rent a furnished room in a house or flat fairly close to Sydney CBD as this appears to be where the work is and I won't have a car.I've looked on Easyshare's website & accomodation is very plentiful at $ 100.00 - $150.00 per week all included, BUT the good stuff that is available moves fast & relies mostly on phonecalls, view & go for it, which I can't do from the U.K. If anyone knows of anyone who would be interested in renting me a room I'd appreciate hearing from you.Ideally I'm looking for a long term arrangement but would be happy to stay a few weeks until I'm settled & move on if need be. I'm very young at heart reliable honest & good fun with a wicked sense of humour, but I do respect other peoples privacy. Hope to hear from you soon Jamie
