  1. Hello! We're moving to Melbourne (from interstate) and would be keen for anyone to provide updated opinions on primary and secondary schools in Point Cook? DS is quite shy, studious and introverted. We'd like a school with a culture where academic excellence is "cool". Because DS is in year 5, we're only considering schools that offer K-9 (or K-12 though I've not read of any). I've done some research but would love to hear first-hand advice please? Alamanda College - seems to be good on paper based on rankings, NAPLAN results, etc. Any feedback? How's the admin? Any bullying? How're the older kids?? Featherbrook College - just opened this year - any feedback from parents who have visited or whose kids are currently enrolled there? Caranballac P-9 - read some not so great reviews so very hesitant - only thing is it's the zoned school for Sanctuary Lakes which seems nice (and safe?) Point Cook College - good reviews but also quite full? Just concerned because of stories about teens in state schools (well, anywhere but there seem to be more horror stories??) - realise it can't fully be avoided but we'd like to lessen the chances of DS getting bullied and/or exposed to bad habits at an early age. Thank you and hope to gain some advice and insights! PS. We're looking at the estates zoned for each school of course so any comments RE the same in relation to the schools would be great, thanks!
  2. Hi PIO people, My family & I are moving from Brighton, UK, to Melbourne's central northern suburbs in January 2013. Does anyone have the lowdown on government co-ed secondary schools in the Coburg, Fitzroy North, Brunswick, Thornbury, Fairfield areas please? My boys are not quite that age yet, but we're attempting to take their secondary education into account when choosing what specific area(s) to move to, or to avoid. We have been advised that the primary schools are generally very good in these areas, but the secondary schools are more varied. What might be really helpful to hear about is secondary schools to avoid, and schools to aspire to. Thanks in advance, Darius :happy_face_outlaw_s :animal-bat:
  3. Hi experts , We are in the process of applying for a 176 visa to move to Melbourne. We have 2 young children who will be 4 and 6 when we move to Oz. We are looking to secure a rental property for when we move and obviously we need it to be close to good schools. Can anyone help me and my wife with finding the best suburbs to rent in with the main priority being locations close to good schools? Thanks in advance Mr & Mrs D

    Victoria Schools

Hi all, My wife is all in a tiz about schools in Victoria. She has read on other forums that they arent particularly great, that they dont have a national curriculum, that they arent any better than the schools over here in the UK.... Please can someone help us out with some info. We have 2 children, 5 and 3. Has anyone migrated out there and have children in school? What are your experiences? Thanks guys

    Noooooooooooooobie!!!

Hello hello, First post ever! Currently living in the Midlands in the UK and just been offered a great opportunity in Melbourne. Visa's etc will fortunately all be getting sorted so we are lucky that we don't have to worry about getting these arranged but would really appreciate any advice regarding areas to live, schools, living in Melbourne, what to bring over/ what not to bring over and generally starting from scratch on the other side of the world! We are a young family; husband and wife in their 30's with a 10 year old and an older teenage daughter. Would appreciate any help! Things are now starting to move very quickly and it looks like we will be over before the end of the year.:twitcy:
