Where do I stay in Melbourne?

I recently got PR for Melbourne under visa category 190. I am planning to move there this December 2017-January 2018. I am a single guy in my 30s with an IT background and having US/India work experience. What will be the best place in Melbourne to look for an 1 bedroom apartment or Studio so that I can stay a few months on rent and search for an IT job? Public transportation availability near the place will be awesome as well because I am not planning to get a car for a few months. My budget is decent and could spend about $300-$500 AUD per month. Please advice.

    Rough Areas in Melbourne?

Hi, I wondered if anyone living in Melbourne good give me some pointers regarding which areas of Melbourne to avoid?! I am researching short term accomodation, and longer term rentals too, and feel like my head is buzzing. I thought it would help to know where the rougher areas are. We have sons in their early teens, so even in the short term accomodation I imagine they will want to take them selves off to explore a bit, and I don't want to end up renting somewhere this would be ill advised to do! I think my OH will be working at Campbellfield. Thank you for any info.
  3. Hi All, I wonder if you can help me. I am flying over from the UK in April to activate our Visa's, have a look around Melbourne and see what kind of area's we wish to live in for when we emigrate in Q1 2014. I am after a short term - 2 week accommodation rental from Wed 3rd April to Monday 15th April. Ideally I would like a furnished detached house with a pool - I understand this is a lot to ask but I want to make this 2 week stay comfortable and enjoyable for my family, this will be after all 1st impressions of Melbourne to the 3 of us and I want to convince family its where we want to live - If I end up using big4.com this isn’t going to be the impression I want to be giving out. Do you know of any short term rentals, or where I can find info / urls? Happy to pay - Not looking for cheap digs.... This is also semi hunny moon so dont mind pushing the boat out a bit ;-) Assistance Appreciated
  4. Hello, We are currently living in Melbourne and are planning to travel in 2013 and our house will be available for rent. We live in Botanic Ridge, in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The house is located in a beautiful estate called Settlers Run.(http://settlersrun.com.au/wp/) It is a modern golf course estate with a Greg Norman designed golf course (complete with resident kangaroos!) club house, restaurant, gym, indoor pool and spa, sauna, tennis courts, multiple childrens playgrounds and parks are surrounding our property. It is a 5 minute drive to Cranbourne train station, 15 minutes to the beach and is within half an hour of the famous Mornington Peninsula with more beaches, restaurants and wineries. 40 minutes in the other direction will get you to the Dandenong Ranges. The snow is about a 2 hour drive away. It is a 3 bedroom plus study house, only built 3 years ago. There are 3 bathrooms, kitchen, laundry, double garage, outdoor entertaining area and the block is 600sqm. We would prefer to rent it furnished but can accommodate your individual needs. If you are interested please let us know and we can provide more information for you. Thanks, Barry & Jess
  5. Hi All We're moving to Melbourne from the UK in September and are looking for short term rental for a month from around the 16th September (this is flexible as are staying with friends to begin with). We've got two cats coming out of quarantine end of September so need to find somewhere pet-friendly. And within commutable distance of CBD. Any pointers/advice/help etc gratefully received, I'm finding it hard to find anything and have been trawling the internet for weeks, seems to only be serviced apartments coming up. Anyone know of a house, we're only two so small is fine too. Thank you. Julia
  6. Hi folks, We're moving to Melbourne this December and we obviously are going to need some place to stay.. The thing is I'm not sure how can I find an apartment remotely? Is it even possible? How can this be done? To complicate the things even more, we land at December 28, which is 3 days before Sylvester and it's also a weekend, so I believe that the city will be "paralyzed". I'm really stressed about this and I consider to move our flight few days forward to Jan 3. Any suggestions? Thoughts? Thanks!!

Hello hello, First post ever! Currently living in the Midlands in the UK and just been offered a great opportunity in Melbourne. Visa's etc will fortunately all be getting sorted so we are lucky that we don't have to worry about getting these arranged but would really appreciate any advice regarding areas to live, schools, living in Melbourne, what to bring over/ what not to bring over and generally starting from scratch on the other side of the world! We are a young family; husband and wife in their 30's with a 10 year old and an older teenage daughter. Would appreciate any help! Things are now starting to move very quickly and it looks like we will be over before the end of the year.:twitcy:
