Just wondering how many fish or shoot and eat what they catch? This guy uses his catch for other duties before consuming them.

I've been reading several posts where people have been saying that buying in bulk--esp meat and such could be much cheaper than buying from the supermarket. Just wanted to know if most homes in Oz land have a separate freezer or does the normal fridge freezer suffice? Is it worthwhile having a freezer shipped out from here when we come? Thanks in advance!

Fantastic location just above the beach, bar was like a Pommie pub on New Year's Eve. Failed to win, AGAIN. If the lady selling the tickets had come to me before the blokes on the other table I'd have been a winner. I asked her if I would still keep my prize even though I was English! Good tucker in there too. Schooner of Coopers Green $5.60. Kids welcome in the bar too. I'm not a member, just signed in as I'm outside the 5 kilometre limit, living in Surry Hills. They have a members' badge draw too so it's worth joining if you go regularly.

I don't know why some people look down their noses at these. There was one at Rose Bay RSL tonight (as there would have been at 100's of pubs and clubs.) and it was good fun. I only got $5 worth of tickets and didn't win anything but there were fifty prizes. There was a nice cross-section of people there too, from young families to oldies. I recommend anyone who is coming here to join their local club.

Hope someone can help - we are planning on celebrating Xmas in July and wanted to cook some Ostrich meat just like we have done in the UK. We thought we had hit the jackpot when we found a supplier near Geelong BUT they only export the meat abroad. Not sure eating feather dusters will quite hit the spot, so if anyone knows of any gourmet butchers in Victoria that sell the most delicious meat ever then would love to know. Thanks in advance Karen x

Hi this is my first post, i joined this forum to hopefully get some guidance with employment prospects. I am a butcher with 11 years experience. I am awaiting a final decision on my 3 year visa and i am hopefully going to cairns next april 2010. The problem is I am not seeing many jobs for butchers advertised online and i am getting panicked! I am in good steady employment here but will take a risk and go to see for my self what the score is with prospects. When you think of all those Barbies the Aussies are having surely there are plenty of Butcher shops/supermarkets and so good chances of employment????? I visited Australia before and was alarmed by how many signs were in shop windows that read 'job vacancy- locals only'. What if they just don't want to employ me because i have a temporary 3 year visa?? I would like to hear from any other Butchers who have made the move and found work- I am going it alone and am working 50 to 60 hours a week to build up some cash to protect me if the worst happens but people have to eat so surely Butchery is a safe trade in Australia?!

Hi, I was wondering what the availability of meat industry jobs are, from working in wholesale meat sales in England I know there is a lot of meat imported into the U.K from Australia. Can anyone advise me on the area's I should look at. I am currently trying to talk my wife into looking further into migrating, so the availability of work might convince her, thanks, Paul
