    Mount Martha???

Looking for some advice on the possibility of relocating to Mount Martha. We looked at the area 3.5 years ago when we first moved to Melbourne, at that time it was out of reach, peak of the property prices etc. plus we didn’t know where we would be working and the CBD was just a little too far for us if that’s where we ended up working. As it turns out if we sold up where we are now we would have made a decent profit, our salaries have increased and the properties in the Mount Martha area seem to be offering good vfm. There is also the addition of the peninsular link which would make both our travel times to work much the same as they are now, we work in Mulgrave and Burwood East (just off the east link). We are only in our newly built dream home about 18 months it in Lyndhurst, nice area facilities are still getting built and we are close to most of the things that we need, with the peninsular link opening we will only be about 30 minutes from the likes of Mount Martha. It only takes about 40 minutes to go into the city at the weekend and 30 minutes the other direction we are out to the likes of emerald plus we are less than 1km to the train station. Trying to weigh up if the lifestyle change is worth it? I grew up by the sea and loved it and every time we are down that way I wish we could live there. My wife likes it too but also loves where we are now. It not an easy decision to make. Any comments for and against would be appreciated.
  2. Hi, My family and I have recently moved from Warwick, to Mount Martha on the Mornington Peninsula. We have two teenage daughters who have settled into school and made friends. I am waiting to register as a nurse and would like to meet to socialise. Does anyone have any links to meet people?

  4. Hi I'm moving out of a 3 bed house in Mt Martha, Vic around mid feb. The landlady and home owner is going to install a new kitchen around that time and has recently put a new bathroom and windows. It's a house in a great location for schools, shops & of course the beaches. I can be honest about the home as i'm just posting it here on Poms in Oz so someone can get a good little set up like me and my family did. The home is not modern but it is clean and tidy, no aircon but does have heating, in my view it is very liveable. It is located on the beachside of the Nepean Highway with just a short walk til your dipping your toes. We pay $330 per week with a 2 week notice period, the landlady lives in Brisbane and is very nice lady (no snotty agents). You can either have her look for a tradesmen if needed or you can do the work yourself and get a deduction from the rent. When we first looked at the house we thought "no thanks" but once inside we thought it was OK and had to have it. It's in a VERY quiet residential area. My partner & kids went back home (UK) last month and I am soon to follow as I thought I good be strong enough to stay but just can't live without my kids. I'm hoping to ship as little as possible back to the UK so there are many household items available for sale - going cheap! Osbourne Primary is a short walk and is very good. If you are interested you can contact me and I will forward you the landlady's details. This really will suit someone either moving to Australia, waiting for shipping to arrive or someone looking to move to the area of the Mornington Peninsula which is beautiful. Neville

    Balcombe Grammer, Mount Martha

Hi, I understand that several people on this forum send there children to Balcombe Grammar school in Mount Martha. We are considering sending our 2 daughters to this school - starting in year 11. Both are academic and I'm looking for a school where their academic qualities will be supported. Would anyone be willing to provide some honest feedback on the school. I also understand that the school is based on christian values. Since we are not a particular religious family, I'm wondering how much religion is taught in the school. Many thanks, Simon
  6. Hi all, my hubby and I are thinking to move to mt martha as we would love a more relaxed lifestyle. We have a 2yr old daughter. We both would work for ourselves, him a finance consultant and I am a graphic designer artist. Would anyone be able to tell us their honest opinions on: -if we would find some good clientele up in mt Martha? - good kinders / schools - kids activites, classes - good libraries, community centres - good hospitals doctors etc. - shopping for groceries and general - are their concerns with living by the sea and around bushland in relation to high winds and fire? Any other insights would be greatley appreciated! Would love to make some great local friends from the area in the meantime. much thanks, Melissa ps we are currently living in eastern suburbs
  7. Well just over a year ago we arrived in Melbourne. http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/reccie-arrival-reports/70539-3-weeks-ago-today-we-arrived-melbourne.html Well, I'm working as a Education Aide at a school in Seaford. I love the school and the staff are fantastic, I feel valued which is something I was told you don't get in Australia but the teachers are very appreciative of us. Husband is working for himself but looking for a more 9-5 job with regular wage. He had some blockages in his legs and had an operation at Frankston hospital it was very quick and the care was great. He has had 3 follow ups with his surgeon and IMHO feel that he received much better care then he would have back in Oldham. My eldest daughter who didn't want to come is loving it here and has an Aussie boyfriend. The youngest is ok, she wants to go back to the UK but TBH I am not liking her school one little bit (long story!) she has some lovely friends and is going to secondary next year even though she would be in year 8 in the UK! We haven't made many friends which is dissapointing but I have friends from living here as a child but they live over near the Dandenongs. We rented for 6 months with a local estate agent (and got all our bond back!!) then moved into our own house a fortnight ago just off Craigie Rd/Dunns Rd. I still need to pinch myself that we are here in this beautiful area. We go down the beach when we can and during the holidays we've been using the public bbq's near the beach and Mornington Park with spectacular views over the beaches and bay. I have no plans to return to the Uk, everyone can visit us  Good luck to those waiting, its the worst time ever but so worth the wait. Heres to another year :wubclub:
  8. Hello, this may be an unusual post, but I'll never know if you dont ask! My hubby and I are thinking about moving to Mt Martha from Melbourne. I am a graphic designer and artist and work for myself. I wanted to know if there is an art and design interest and appreciation or focus in Mt Martha as I am wanting to run an exhibiton of my work and run an art class for children. Any opionions would be greatley appreciated. Thanks so much! Ps I really hope we can move!... Depends of finding the right land/house and land opportunity at a comfortable price!

    Moving to Mt. Martha

Is there anyone living in Mt. Martha or nearby who knows about the area? We are hoping to be over there before the end of 2010. We need rental and school info. and lots more! Anyone?:jiggy:
  11. After months of applying for Admin jobs, with no luck, I have finally given up!! So Im thinking of going it alone as a cleaner....... !!!!! :jimlad: The administration qualifications I gained in the UK (NVQ's) while working for the civil service ar'nt really recognised here in Oz. Although they obviously use microsoft, excel etc., they have different computer programmes here and they obviously want you to have experience in it..... I have spoke to lots of Poms who have had the same problem too. You can take courses at the local college but you have to pay ofcourse, and technically you still dont have the experience. Lots of admin jobs here require MYOB (a basic invoice/accounts software) and even the medical reception and school admin jobs have to deal with accounts aswell. So, if anyone in the Mornington/Mount martha area is busy working full time and needs help with the household chores, feel free to contact me. Thanks Sally-ann

    Mount Martha

 Hi, can anyone give advise as to what Mount Martha is like for schools ? We have looked at Frankston South which looks good but also like the look of Mount Martha. We have friends there who send their kids to private school but are unsure if there are any public schools. Same applies to Mornington and Mount Eliza. Any knowledge of schools in the area would be greatly appreciated. :wideeyed:

    Mt Martha schools

Hi I am moving to Mt Martha end of the month from Moonee ponds and am looking to find out about the two schools that are house is zoned to any information would be great, Osborne Primary and Bentons junior college..........am going to visit both next week but would value any info from people that know them thank you
  14. My wife and I are coming out next month. She has a job in the CBD and I hope to work there too. We are looking at rentals on the Mornington Peninsula. The ones closer to CBD are in general expensive and small. By contrast there are some superb properties in Mornington, Mount Martha and Mount Eliza. We are just wondering how practical the commute is. I know we would have to get to Frankston if we went by train. My wife will be working shifts and is concerned about travelling home late at night. I currently commute into London and am used to 2 hours each way. We were hoping to get away from this kind of thing but some of the Mount Martha properties in particular look stunning. Anyone got first hand experience of the commute?
  15. Hi. Any opinions, advice would be greatly recieved. We are in the first stages of seriously considering selling up and making a new life in OZ. We have managed to pin point Mount Martha as our destination for our young family, for it's Schools, community, beaches and reasonably priced homes. We would very much appreciate your views on this area. My husband is a skilled plasterer, own business. From the info and the visa check he took and passed; his trade skills are highly required... Is this true? How easy do you think it would be to get a job? I have loads of questions, but I think so far these are some of the most important we'd like your views on. Kind regards, Emma & Rich. x
  16. Hi we are the Steer family just landed last week! We have two children Lucy 8 and Alex 6 we are in Mornington at the moment and looking for a rental in the surroundng area's. Which we have just found is a really bad time to try and find something as not alot around! Interested in meeting any families in the area. :chatterbox:Caroline and family
  17. just thought I would give my experience. We replied to an ad in the UK in the 'Emigrating to Australia an NZ' magazine. to cut a long story short we signed a contract for 6 months for a property in Mt Martha. It was $450 per week and it was a complete dump to say the least. The garden was the only nice thing. The woman who was deputy head of a prestigious private school nearby was a complete con artist. We only stayed there for 2 months and just paid her off. Beware of signing anything without viewing it first. I would not have normally done anything like this but I wanted to stay somewhere immediately to have a 'home' for the family. I cried everyday. It is worth staying in a caravan park or holiday accommodation before plunging into renting as we did.
  18. Hi .... I dont know if anyone remembers but some while ago, there was a thread about who was coming to Mornington/Mt Martha??? Thought it was about time for an update and just wondering who's actually made it and how your all doing????? Just being nosey really........... Sally-ann x
  19. Hi, Can anyone recomend a one bedroom rental for three weeks in the Mornington/Mount Martha area. We are at present going through the process of trying for our visa's, and OH is getting a bit concerned now, with never being before whether we will like it or not, and is concerned if we sell everything and unsettle the girls and we get there and it is not really for us. So he is now thinking about going over and having an info break, getting to see the area people kindly recomend on this site. We have decided the Mornington Pernisula, as there seems to be good feed back on this area. We only need a one bedroom rental as the girls are staying with their grandparents to allow us to really concentrate on getting as much info as possible. We are hoping to fly out on the 4th October roughly and staying for the three weeks. (hope this is enough time to find out stuff!!!) Would really appreciate any kind of advice/info. Thanks in advance. Andi.:wubclub:
