Sharon123 posted a topic in Socialising Hobbies Clubs Sport
Hi All My husband and I are a young minded child free 40ish couple. We immigrated to Australia about ten years ago and have recently moved from Gosford back to Manly Vale. We love getting out and about and would like to meet other couples to socialise with. You know, the usual going out eating/drinking/listening to live music/walks, etc. So if you fancy meeting up for a drink or two , please get in touch. Thanks Sharon -

Hey everyone, I'm Carly 24 and from Liverpool. I have been working as Au Pair in Manly (Sydney suburbs) for 4 weeks, and am looking to make a group of friends to have nights out with, beach days, and generally live the Aussie life lol! Ther nature of the job makes it hard to socialise so thought that online would be the next best thing- 12 replies

We will be going overseas and are looking to rent our 3 bedroom unit + balcony in Manly between 22/03 - 26/04. It's fairly large (around 100 sqm), less than a hundred meters from the beach itself. Fully furnished and suitable for families (we have 2 boys with toys, Xbox etc.), large 50" TV, fast internet and more. You can see and hear the ocean from living room, balcony and kitchen. Located in a quiet part of the famous Manly beach, yet easy walk to to tons of shops, restaurants, bars, playgrounds and all the goodness that Manly has to offer including the ferry that takes you to Sydney CBD. We are not looking to make a profit, just to cover our costs and the price is very low compared to similar properties in area. If you are arriving to Australia at this time, or just want an affordable holiday in paradise, this can be an ideal solution for everyone. Happy to provide more information including pictures etc - please send me a private message

Hello everyone! Me and my girlfriend Shelley have recently moved from London to Manly, Sydney and thought we'd say hi as we have used your great forum in the past for many useful tips. We'll try to pay it forward and contribute as much as we can to this forum with our own experiences. We are late 20s (I'm so late, some people may call be 30), like pretty much everything from sport to music/comedy to chilling on the beach and everything in between. Would be great to make some new friends while here in Oz, if anyone is interested? Cheers, Jim

We are relocating back to Blighty and need to break our lease agreement. Its a 3 bed (all doubles) house based in Manly, Brisbane. It is in the catchment for Manly State Primary School which has a fantastic reputation and a very long waiting list unless you live in the catchement area. The house is less that five minutes walk to Manly train station and about 25 minutes drive to the City. The rent is $440 a week. Manly is a lovely family friendly area with lots going on for children. Please message me if you need any more information. Thank you.

Hi there, I would really appreciate any advice from people about the reality of commuting. My husband has a job in Fortitude Valley and we have always liked to live next to the sea. (Not so worried about waves etc). I think Manly would be nice but we want to know what the reality of living there is with the commute to work. Particularly when our kids are school aged this will become more difficult. I will get a job at one of the major hospitals eventually, but I will need to be flexible about which hospital I work at to some extent so this may limit me. If we live in Manly I would consider Logan or the PA but I am not sure what the travel to those hospitals would be like. My preference would be manly to live but we are not keen on spending masses of time in the traffic anxious about picking up kids etc. Just wondering if anybody knows exactly how bad it really is. Otherwise would we be better off living in Ascot and just visiting the sea in the weekend? Sorry about the rambling, I know it is personal to some extent but any advice would be appreciated. I am not sure if we can trust the real estate agents opinions. Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.

Hi Guys and Girls, Im Jonny, 32 year old english gent, soon to be emigrating down under from London/Essex. I am looking to move to Manly anytime in October. About me.........32, carpenter by trade but in middle of studying construction management and will continue that once in Oz, think thats starts feb time. I like my sport and keeping fit, love the outdoor life which is why im heading back to oz after a year there in 2006. Looking to take up tennis and surfing, i also play golf and cricket, maybe not cricket when in oz though, getting to old! Like watching all sports though. I lived in Coogee before and loved the beach lifestyle but im choosing Manly to settle as i think it ticks so many boxes for me and getting very excited about heading there whilst it feels a little daunting too that its nearly upon me after so long waiting. Im very chilled during the week after a hard days graft and will be studying before too long, so weekdays will be pretty quite for me, however, will be looking to head out at weekends to socialise and make new mates have BBQ's etc etc, all the usual stuff. Be great to hear from any peeps that are also new to the Manly area and are keen to head out and watch/play some sport or have few beers and BBQ's. Im also in facebook too if you wanted to get in contact on there Jonny

manly (brisbane)area playmates for 4 and 1 year old
Guest posted a topic in Socialising Hobbies Clubs Sport
Hi we are about to rent a house in Manly, just outside Brisbane, in a week after arriving from Manchester in May. I have a 4 year old son and a 1 year old daughter and wondered if anyone was on here living nearby (with any children of similar age to either) up for meeting for picnic/park or anything else in Manly or surrounding area. I'm staying off work till Jan to look after both until my son starts at Manly Primary School in January. He's spent almost a year at school in UK so is going to be very very bored for 6 months - so if you have any children of similar ages to either would love to meet up! There doesn't seem much in the way of groups except the odd church playgroup in Manly - but if you know of anymore be great to know. Rebeccax - 8 replies

Hey, I've recently moved to Manly from London and really don't know many people. I have a 20 month old daughter and a 11 week old son and would really like to meet other mums in the area. So, just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation or if there are any regular "mum meet-ups" in the area. Please email me at elittle@hotmail.co.uk. Thanks, Elena

Looking to meet new people around Manly area

Hi, My family and I moved from the UK to Brisbane six months ago and now my work have offered me a promotion on the condition that I move to Sydney. In brisbane we live in a good area by the sea in a 4 bedroom house with a pool for under $600pw. We are next to a great free public shool and I can commute to work in under an hour so moving will be hard. I'll get a decent pay rise but I am resigned to the fact that the cost of living in sydney will eat all of it up. Can anyone advise me on the best place to live in Sydney. Our requirements are: Family oriented area. Low crime and anti-social behaviour 3-4 Bedroom house for upto $1000 p.w. Good primary schools for two boys (4 and 6). Either public or private (<$10k per year). Max 45 Minutes to the Circular Quay area by public transport. Close to the beaches (max 20 mins). I have looked at Mosman and Manly both look good but there aren't a lot of properties in our budget. Any locals know of areas that are almost as good but cheaper?
