  4. Hi, everyone! Yesterday, I sent an email to my CO's team address inquiring on what the current status of my application is. The reply I got this morning contained the following: I note that all requested documents have been received and this application is now ready for allocation to a Decision Maker for finalisation. There may be some delay before a Decision Maker contacts you regarding this application, however no further documents are required at this time. We appreciate your patience in this matter. Is the Decision Maker the same as my CO? Does the letter mean my CO has already completed assessment on my application and thus my application is already "ready for allocation to a Decision Maker for finalization"? Does anyone have a clue on this? Anyone who has encountered a similar correspondence from DIAC or knows of anyone who did? How long must I wait before the grant? I know I should be really happy that my application is really making progress. But, more than two years of being in the process of visa application and the many "life-changing" decisions for myself and my career which I have been putting off in anticipation of the visa grant had been making me quite eager to know what the real status of my application is. So, I would appreciate your response/s.... Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone.....
  5. Hi, I wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction regarding AQF for my OH. He is a Cabinet Maker who completed a full 4 year work and study based apprenticeship. After completing this he worked for firms as a cabinet maker and has been assessed by the TRA as such. What we need to know is does he need to complete a RPL course to qualify for licensing requirements should he choose to work self employed in SA. Also would he need a licence if he finds employment with a cabinet making firm in SA? Any help with regards to this would be greatly appreciated as even though the OCBA website is very well laid out, I'm not sure I'm taking in the information.

  9. Hi Everyone, My OH is a spring maker (yes, they do exist!!) which falls under the category of Blacksmith (60 pts) on the SOL List. He needs to get his skills assessed with the TRA and as there aren't that many spring makers out there we wondered whether anyone had had any difficulty getting assessed/ and or any tips or recommendations? He started at 17 in an informal apprenticeship (which his old boss will confirm in his reference) and did day release at college to get a C & G in basic engineering. He has now been in the job for 17 years (13 in the original company and 4 where he is now). We employed Beyderwellen as our migrant agent 4 years ago but after spending £1500 we realised that my OH was being told to apply as an engineer on a 40pt job and on that basis would never pass the skills assessment and we would have to get sponsorship from a relative to meet the points ......after much frustration we ditched the agent (lost our money) and our dream of living in Oz but after another trip to Sydney we decided we didn't want to give up the dream. Thats when we realised that spring maker is actually listed under Blacksmith on the immi site. There must be another spring maker who has passed the TRA and got out to Oz??????:jiggy:

    Decision Maker??

I read on another thread that someones visa application had gone to the 'decision maker'... I just wondered if anyone could tell me what this is all about. I assumed that if you matched the criteria, passed police checks and medicals and got enough points then it was a done deal... Am I wrong about that? Is it possible to be on the MODL list with skills assessment, have not health issues or criminal record and not get a visa?????

    TRA Cabinet Maker

Hi OH is a Joiner/Cabinet Maker and we have been looking into the VETASSESS / TRA thing and it seems sooo much quicker, cheaper and easier to go down the TRA Cabinet Maker route (as in there doesn't seem to be the practical test or the extortionate cost either) that we think we must be missing something. Has anyone who has done the TRA Cabinet Maker route got any tips or pointers? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Donna (and James)

    Decision maker?!

  19. Hi All I seem to have come over to OZ on a bit of a different route to everyone else but wondering if anyone might have a bit of advice for me please?! I came over to live with my Aussie boyfriend on a Working Holiday Makers Visa as a skilled workers one isn't really an option for me, but now I'm not sure how to proceed. Ideally I'd like to find a job with a company that will sponsor me if I offer to pay the fees, has anyone gone this route and is it likely? The other possibility is to apply for the de-facto relationship visa, does anyone have any advice about making this process easier? I've heard it's a good idea to get a joint bank account, put all our bills in both of our names etc... I've currently only been here for two months and so have quite a bit of my visa left to go, and also if I haven't progressed with the permanent visa by the end of the year I can apply to extend my WHM for another year. However there are restrictions on working, I can only work for the same employer for up to six months so it's stopping me from going out and getting a good job. Can't temp forever! What does everyone think? Sorry this is a bit of a long question, am new to the site and have so much to ask! Thanks everyone Rach x
