  2. hi, i am a fully qualified cnc setter/operator ( city&guilds and n.v.q level 2 and 3) but for the last 5 years i have been programming and running a cnc router. metal machinist is on the sol so would i be restricted to machining metal? also whats the best route to go down if i'm seeking company sponsorship. have had a look on line and majority of cnc machinist jobs you need to be in aus already. are there any agencies that specialize in companies who sponsor? any help would be appreciated

    cnc machinist

Have looked on this site nightly for months and have decided to post a thread. Visa has been granted and was wondering what the job situation for cnc machinists was like in perth and what kind of wage is being paid. Flights are booked for early next year to validate visa's as i am a bit worried about work out there and the exchange rate at the moment as i want a better future for my family. Thankyou
  4. Can someone share experience, tips in finding an employer who could sponsor my visa in the profesion fitter, metal fabricator, machinist. I sent probably a hundred CVs without success.
  5. Hi all, we have started the 176 state sponsorship visa. We have appointed an agent but are struggling with the AQF, as I don't get the impression that they fully understand my husbands job. My husband is a CNC Setter/Operator which is Austrailia is classed as a Metal Machinist (First Class). We have sent the initial AQF application off but now have to complete the stage 2 application form, but the agents keep sending us Metal Fabricators/Mechanical Engineer form which we have to complete and then get a score of points based on equipment he has used. The problem we have is that the machinery listed is all to do with Fabricators and welding and not relevant to my husbands job which is working with spindles, lathes, milling etc. I have spoken to our agent and they have said that there is only one form but I find this really hard to believe as we cannot gain points based on a job he doesn't do. Can anyone offer any advice please, or if you are a metal machinist (First Class) and have had to complete the AQF could you please let us know if this is correct that you have to complete this Fabricators application form? Please any help or advice would be mostly appreciated as we are on such a tight deadline as we have been told come the 1 July the chances are we won't be able to lodge our visa as we won't be eligble so we are desparetly trying to get it done asap. Thanks Natasha
  6. Hi, planning my move to the Perth area later on this year, does any one know of any good tooling stockists where I could purchase digital vernier/micrometers, Allen keys, tool box etc? Don't really know where to head first so any advice on locations where there might be some CNC machining workshops would be greatly appreciated.
  7. MODS please remove my duplicate thread in Western Australia and not this one please. Hiya, I did an informal apprenticeship via YTS in the 80's day release to obtain City & Guild part 2 and part 3, with part 1 being an equivalent under a different body. I did 4 years (part 2 took two years to do). I was'nt under the EITB board as some others at other companies were. But TRA pathway B states 5 years training. Am I out of this? Or can I point to the fact I've always been on a skilled rate in this country? Am applying under 716 route, but WA want 7 years out of last ten but I was in fulltime education around 7 years ago. Then in maintenance fitting for 2 years and not machining which I've been in sine then. Should I go for SA and simply slip in to WA? Or would employer sponsorship be my only hope? I appreciate my first problem of four year apprenticeship will be seen as informal and therefore incomplete? Thanks for any advice, doing the TRA isn't a problem as I'd like to know if Oz is going to be or not.

    Toolmaker/metal machinist

Hi all, I am a Toolmaker with SS from WA but am dreading the release of the new SMP as I think we will not be on it. I hope this question has not been hacked to death but what will happen to my application? Will it be honoured or was the last year and a 5 months just a very expensive way of paying to be shuffled around? Thanks in advance.................
  11. Hi all Im just posting for someone who is at the start of applying for a TRA assessment, (and also waiting for the WA SMP to see if this ocupation will be listed). We are currently looking at the TRA website but could do with further clarification. Details are as follows:- Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering Competencies which encompasses:- City & Guilds - Parts 1,2 and 3 NWRAC - Part 1 205 - Part 2 205 - part 3 BTEC Advanced Diploma in Computer Aided Engineering Approximately 15 years experience in Milling and Turning. Also has some Fitting experience and the last six months has been mostly Fitting. After looking at ANZCO - it lists Metal Machinist (1st Class) and then the sub-section lists Milling Machinist and Metal Turner. Do TRA assess and decide which occupation you are best suited to or do you have to nominate an occupation yourself. Could anyone help with what and how much information should be provided in order to get a successful outcome from TRA. Also, is IELTS required for all visa types including 457 if this becomes an option and are 6's required across the 4 components? Any help from anyone who has applied via this route would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
  12. Hi, Could anyone tell me if there is much work in W/A, for a Joiner / Wood machinist. I have 16 years experience in a workshop and shop floor, running all different types of woodworking machines and also doing benchhand work. I`am hoping to be over in the next 18 months, so if anyone has any kind of advice or information it would be really appreciated. regards Steve

    Cnc machinist

Hi everyone. Does anybody have any info on what the situation is like for us cnc machinists in Perth? Ill be moving to south Perth in a few weeks time and im just trying to gauge how difficult it is going to be to find a job. I have looked at a few of the websites like seek but would be nice to hear any stories word of mouth. Any help is appreciated. Cheers
  15. Hi my partner has been working in engine reconditioning and engine building for 10 years, we are looking at going onto a 175 under the title metal machinist, he doesnt have an nvq III, however i believe he can get an AQF III, while we are here in Oz. He can get the AQF III under the title automotive specialist which falls under metal machinisit. I wondered if any one has done it this way around and how much it cost to get the AQF III as he wont be doing a course, it will just be like and RPL. Does anyone know about the tra aswell and how much getting the skills assessed once he has the AQF III is? also do u have any idea what they will ask? We are both currently on WHVs as he was made redundant on a 457 twice and we feel getting the 175 will be the best option for the security. Also once the visa application is in, does any one have a rough idea of how long until its granted. Any help or info would be great as we seem to b going round in circles. Thanx :arghh:
  16. Hi, i am about to start my tra 1st class metal machinist and i would like to know if anyone has any advice on ...well where to start, how much detail and if i need certain key words. I was employed on a 457 3 years ago for 18 months as a 1st class metal machinist in Australia, done the whole apprentice thing from school and been in engineering for the last 19 years on both manual and cncs. I don`t want to send 60 pages in if its not needed, do i need any docs from old employers too?, only ever had 3 so its not too hard but if so what do they need to include. thanks for reading if you got this far.... Edit: Going for a 176 visa with S.A.

    Toolmaker/CNC Machinist

Does anyone have any knowledge of companies needing toolmakers/cnc mchinists other than on SEEK? Any companies that are happy to take on Brits. All my searching is not bringing up much at all. I know here in England a lot of this type of work is word of mouth and knocking on doors, is this the same in WA. This profession is still on the Regional Skills list for WA does that really mean there is a shortage or have they just not updated their lists.:skeptical:

    tra metal machinist?

Hello hope someone can shed some light, We are nearly ready to send off tra and are worried about his job title. He has a city and guild in mechanical engineering craft studies, but is applying for metal machinist (first class) as he is a miller/turner, has anyone come across any problems passing their tra with this? Also he applied to city and guilds for replacement certificates and only got back certificate for part 2, assuming this is because he couldnt pass part 2 without passing part 1 first. But will tra be ok with this? Sorry for ranting but dont want a negative result!! thanks in advance x:chatterbox:
