    Long time lurker

Deciding to say hello. I live in Brisbane and hope that I can offer info to those moving here. John
  2. Hello! Been some really useful threads on here already so after the occasional bit of lurking here I thought I'd sign up and say hello! I'm applying for a 175 visa and just did my IELTS on Saturday (fingers crossed) and already passed the skills assessment, should be ready to put in the visa application soon! Oh, and hello to anyone else who was doing the IELTS at the Bede Centre in Sunderland on the 3rd if you are on here! Neil.

Hi all, long time lurker first time poster lol, Been to oz a few times and still undecided at this time. Thought it was time to dip my toes in the waters that is PIO
  4. Hi I've been looking and lurking in the forums for some time now, and you all seem a really friendly lot, so thought I'd pose a question that's been puzzling me for a while... first a little introduction: We're trying to emigrate to Perth - we're at (hopefully) the final stage of the application process - our meds have been requested and we're just sitting, waiting for the BIG decsion. We are Jo (me), hubbie Quince and kids James (5) and Jacob (2). Quince is a Motor Mechanic so we're using his skills to apply - he's such a useful bloke - I knew I married him for a reason!! We first fell in love with WA (know that sounds corny, but it's true) when we went on WHV's in 1997/98 and spent most of our time in Perth. We travelled round Aus a lot, but nowhere compared to Perth - at one stage we even turned round and drove back all the way from Coffs Harbour NSW because we were low on cash, couldn't find work and knew we felt at home in Perth. Anyway, we came back when our visas expired and vowed to return, but then decided to buy a house, get married, have 2 kids, then all of a sudden almost 10yrs have passed!!! We still feel the same about Perth though, and barely a day has gone by since we were there that we don't think about being back, so we just have to try it while we have the chance. Anyway, down to my question... I spend a lot of time looking at real estate websites (as I'm sure many of you do too) wishing and hoping that the house prices will go down!! Anyway, what seems strange to me is the fact that hardly any properties have solar power - why is this?? Surely harnessing all that sunshine would be an easier and cheaper for homeowners than the usual options. Maybe someone can enlighten me (sorry - no pun intended!) Also, I'd like to know the view of anyone living in WA about the state of the environment, global warming and all that. When we were there in 97-98 I got the feeling that everyone was pretty environmentally friendly, but now I hear that Australia is one of the worst and everyone's screaming about major droughts and imminent increases in temperature etc, and it seems no-one is doing anything about it. Plus all us immigrants are just going to make things worse aren't we?? I thought I was taking my children to a country that was pretty switched on to all this green stuff - a place where people cared about the environment. Am I wrong, am I alone in my concerns about this???:chatterbox: It's just one of my little worries! So what's the truth from people living there?? I'd be intersted to know your opinions. Thanks for allowing me my little rant.... Jo:GEEK:
