Big day when we find out if we're hosting 2018 Commonwealth Games more info here - http://www.goldcoast2018bid.com/content/homeasp2.asp?
  2. Hello guys, I never thought the time would come but it has, we leave for Dubai this week end for 3 nights, then our onward journey to Qlnd, we are staying on the gold coast for 10 nights, then a further 10 nights on the sunshine coast, during our stay we will look at areas to live, whilst at the same time visit fun parks etc. We will also drop in on people from this forum who now live in oz, you people know who you are! I will update on my return Bye for now. Proview
  3. Hiya! I have read that Hairdressing is back on the SOL for western Australia, is there anyone out there having any luck getting work/sponsorship in this area? Or does it still exist in other areas even? I am coming out in October but I don't want to give up on my passion and i'd be interested to know if there are any othere people in or have been in the same position. Also how do you find the work out there and hours etc? I'm sooo excited about coming over just madly panicking that I won't get work, and then i'd have to go home.. nooooo! lol. :wink:I love my job but being 20 I don't know that people would see me as having enough experience although I have been qualified since I was 17 and trained in hair extensions done courses etc and overall worked in a salon for 6 years. Please don't burst my bubble!! good luck to anyone in the same situation in any other trades too Thaaaanks:cute:

  6. After a pretty rubbish start to 2011, found out my partner of 3.5 years was having an affair with my best friend, a few weeks later my Mum emigrated to Australia to be with my sister, and then I got put at risk of redundancy.... my luck is finally turning  I got my positive VETASSESS skills assessment back this week after a tense 5 months, have applied for SA state sponsorship yesterday and have just found out I've won a camcorder in a raffle at work (Oh and I found out my job is safe... which is partly sad as the payout would have come in handy). Roll on state sponsorship approval and then onto visa app.... sending the good luck out to everyone else who needs to share a bit :jiggy:

    Wish me luck

Well. flights booked now and it's about 6 weeks until I venture back to Perth. Hubby has been there since the beginning of March and eager for the rest of the family to finally join him as the kids and myself are too!! It's been a huge roller coaster and I'd be lying if I didn't say I am a little apprehensive after a few bad wobbles along the way, but now I'm ready and got my positive head well and truly on!! Feeling nervous, but hey I'm excited too!! 3rd time lucky..... Ahem!! like I say wish me luck!! J xx:smile:

Has anyone had any luck selling there house or is it just us! We got our visa in April and we just want to go. We need to sell the house or we cannot buy one when we get there. Like many people all our money is sat in the bricks around us:sad: What to do!
  9. I've spent the last couple of weeks disheartened by the lack of carpenter's jobs advertised on seek, careerone etc. bored of waiting at the computer for new jobs to be added all day i decided to get more proactive. while touring around buderim and moloolaba this weeken, i stopped at any building sites taking the main contractors details off sign boards, later at home i sent nice emails that i was looking for work and was wanting to settle my family on the sunshine coast etc, and attached my resume. Yesterday I coldcalled construction companies out of yellow pages. nobody was pissed off with this and a couple asked for my resume, and i mailed it straight away. After a nice long phone call today i've accepted a nice job for a great looking company (going from their website) and start on monday. Im stoked. I started out too timid, 2 weeks waiting for people to contact me after applying through jobsites. I got pissed off this weekend and went for it, got 2 job offers and an interview in the space of 3 days. Not sure if this approach would work for all but if you're in construction. It seems you have to go to them, the good companies often dont need to advertise for staff.

    Good Luck

It seems there are a few members who are either coming to Aus this month or in the first couple of months in the New Year. It's a very bitter sweet time, leaving loved ones but being excited at the adventure that is ahead of you. I'd like to wish you all Good luck as you embark on living in your new country, remember you're probably going to be hit with a flood of different emotions that will change daily .... it's normal!! Have a great 2010 and Welcome to Australia Luv Ali xx

Everything hangs on this as the company are willing to sponsor 457. I've researched Perth till I'm counting kangaroos in my sleep and we SO want to start a new life there. More importantly, its the job of my dreams with a great company.... so not nervous. Not me.. not even a little bit.... OMG

    Good luck, jolaaled

Hi All Jolaaled is a lady called Alison. She is a primary/pre-primary/special needs Teacher. A bit of a mixture but apparently the earlier that special needs are identified the better the outcome. Alison is over 50. Her brother lives in Sydney. Originally she arranged for a year's sabbatical from her job and got herself a 12 month tourist visa for Oz. She then joined Poms in Oz, asking tentatively about whether skilled migration to Oz might be possible for her despite her age. Most people know that there is no upper age limit for a 457 visa, so temporary migration would defo be possible if one of the Education Authorities proved to be willing to sponsor Alison. PR might be more difficult but not necessarily impossible, particularly if Alison was willing to go to Regional Oz and to think in terms of an RSMS visa, I felt. In any case, going to Oz on a 457 would be a start, on the principle that possession is 9/10 of the law. If she could get a job and her employers then want to keep her long term, an Education Authority should be able to get its own way with DIAC, I would hope. Alison scoured all the State job websites for Teachers and eventually found a job in the Northern Territory which does sound like the adventure of a lifetime. She applied for the job and was selected on the strength of one telephone interview. The NT won't sponsor Teachers for immediate PR. They insist on 2 terms on a 457 visa first in case the culture shock is too much. However Alison's 457 visa was granted last Monday, 12th October. She left for Sydney yesterday, to spend a week with her brother there and then Bro will go with her to Darwin to help her to find a house to rent and to help her to get organised because she has told her employers that she will start work a fortnight today, 2nd November. I've just checked Sydney flight arrivals and Alison's flight landed on time, so that is the first part of this long journey out of the way. Her job sounds amazing. Apparently it is a special project which is aimed at persuading the people who live in the "Town camps and Homelands" in the Top End of the NT to send their 4 year olds to school. Alison will be based in Darwin so she will live there. Some of the time she will travel to visit the relevant communities. Apparently where possible they will fly her to the places concerned but other communities can only be reached by road - ie dirt track, ie 4 wheel drive. The NT Education Authority will provide a suitable 4WD car and it is compulsory for Alison to have lessons to learn to drive this thing off-road. This is a lady who is used to driving a small Corsa and has no idea how to drive Land Rovers etc! They also told her that it might be necessary to make camp on occasions - miles from anywhere. I assume/hope fervently that they will send at least one Ranger with her if any such thing might be necessary. The telephone interview sounds hilarious. The Territorians can be very laconic. The guy asked Alison how she felt she would cope with the climate in the Top End. She told him about the right clothing and Aerogard. He remarked that Aerogard does not deter crocodiles..... I wish her all the luck in the world and I have specified that we want photos and video links of Alison's adventures in the NT. Hopefully she will post them on here but if that is too complicated, I will put her in touch with PommyPaul and hopefully he will do the wizardry with them so as to put them on here. GOOD LUCK ALISON!!!! Hugs Gill xxx
