  3. We're due to be moving out to Melbourne early next year and I'm just interested in finding out some more about the live music scene - which I have heard is very good! Being from Brighton in the UK we're pretty spoiled for choice with the number and variety of gigs that are on most nights of the week. One of the benefits I guess is the 'compact' nature of the city meaning there's a city's worth of venues etc within very easy reach - I presume this is less applicable to Melbourne given the size difference! We spent some time there last year and fell in love with the place - it definitely has the same arty/fun feel of Brighton but on a much larger scale so I am sure there are plenty of opportunities for enjoyment before the OH starts hassling me for kids :err: Are there any other gig lovers out there? If so, any tips or suggestions as to the best venues, festivals etc or even the best areas of Melbourne to look to move to which would give us the best access to music venues? We're quite eclectic when it comes to music - anything ranging from indie to folk, to bluegrass through to more electronic stuff and even, dare I say it, the re-emergence of 80s style pop that seems to be hitting the UK . Not sure how much of this stuff is current in Oz at the moment but half the fun will be finding out and discovering some new stuff - we love new music. At this stage we're pretty flexible with our plans and we're looking to have a fun couple of years (at least) in Melbourne whilst still late 20s/early 30s so it would be great to get some insider knowledge from current residents to help us along the way  Thanks all and have a great weekend!

    The 'Apple Mac Lovers' Thread

OK, I am a technophobe and have barely an understanding of computers etc. But I can honestly say without the aid of Mac products over the years' I would be COMPLETELY dumb when it comes to this subject. I have written several articles on my Mac, several books, and designed several websites, I am not saying I could not have done this on a windows machine, and I admit I am somewhat biased. But this thread is for those of you who love their Mac machines/mobiles/displays etc. Come on, lets put up some sexy pictures of Macs in all their glory, and some advice about Mac products. I know there are loads of Mac users/experts out there, and I would appreciate some sexy conversation and pics,:goofy:. PS. I owe this thread to Dawny,:notworthy::notworthy:, as she got the old juices flowing again about my Macs,:jiggy:. Cheers Tony.

  7. hi everyone, if you live in Australia and miss Marks and Spencers stuff, you might like to know that they are currently charging a flat rate of £15 for delivery of "any amount" of goods there. It excludes stuff like furniture and food, but includes homeware, clothing and so on. I placed an order on the weekend to send a king size duvet, bed set, loads of towels, bathroom stuff etc to my mother's house in Queensland and it was sent off today by air via ParcelForce. With the pound being fairly worthless at the moment and only £15 for delivery by air, you might want to place an order. I doubt this offer will last long, though - but its not an error or anything. Marks & Spencer cheers sg

  10. Hello all, Im moving over to Brisbane 15/09/08. Cannot wait! One thing I am dreading is missing the socialising & watching footy with my pals! I am 25 & from Blackpool, massive Man United fan though and would love to meet up with ANY football follower for some beers and footy (ive heard the Pin N Whistle pubs show English footy?). So if anyone's interested, and would even like to bring along their partners (I will be), then I'd be up for a meet up! Cheers! Scott

    Wine and movie lovers tip!

Just thought I'd share something with you especially all you wine lovers out there as no doubt that when you arrive in Oz you will be trying all different types of wines!!!!!!! I keep a couple of small note books in my handbag 1 for wine and 1 for movies. I mark each page with a letter of the alphabet then when I try a new wine or watch a new movie I write the name of it under the appropriate letter along side of what I thought of it. This means that when we go wine shopping again and cant remember a good one that we enjoyed I can refer to my book! It also stops us from buying a wine that we didnt enjoy. The same goes for movies, I have been in a shop and cant remember if we have seen it, so this helps. Maybe this is only for us older ones or maybe for us wine lovers whos memory brain cells have been killed of from our love of the little tipple:biglaugh: Hope you will find my little tip useful:smile:

  13. for all of you with concerns about bringing your dogs over we've just visited our dog, 9 year old Jack Russell, in Byford (perth) and thought it might help you making the decision to bring their pets over to read our update and thoughts. We originally didn't bring Eddie over as we were worried it would be too hot for her and she'd be too old to cope with the flight etc as she's only been in kennels twice before. So we rehoused her with family and due to their personal circs changing we decided to bite the bullet and bring her over as once here we realised she would cope with the weather, spiders etc and we were really missing her. Well she arrived in Perth on Sunday 30 and we visited her Friday and she looks really healthy, happy and settled. There was us worrying that she'd be all upset and the kennel person took us to her kennel, took her out of the kennel and into the walking area and she didnt' even notice we were there!!!!!!!! He had to turn her around and we had to call her and all of a sudden it was like a light was switched on and she was so happy to see us as we were her. We were allowed to play with her in a special pen for an hour and give her some treats and then had to put her back in her kennel (the hard bit) but she was happy to let us go and we are picking her up on 30 April as we can't get up to Perth again as they only allow visiting between 11.30 and 12.30 during the week and we live 2 hours south in Bunbury and can't get time off work to visit her which is a shame. Looking forward to her being part of the family again - sad I know but so glad she's here now. Sarah
  14. Hello Had a quick look to see if I could see a similar thread but no luck... Can anyone give me some feedback on bringing a cat over to Melbourne. I left my cat with my parents when I moved here 18 months ago, but I am pretty keen to have her over here now (my parents want to spend UK winters over here so would be better to have her here). She is a very healthy 13 year old and coped very well for 6 weeks in a UK cattery when my parents stayed here at Xmas. I have got some details on Pet Carriers to fly her over and the details from Melbourne Quarantine. I have heard very good things about the level of care in the quarantine but still have a few concerns. Such as during the flight stop over do they get cleaned up and have their food and water refreshed? Any feedback (good or bad) would be most appreciated, or recommendations on pet carriers etc. Thanks
