  1. The major sites when looking online for a car are.. http://www.carsales.com.au http://www.carsguide.com.au (allows you to sell your car for free) http://www.carpoint.com.au http://www.drive.com.au Note: Expect to pay double the price for the same car in Oz, than what you would pay in the UK. This is because of high taxes. On a sunny side though, petrol in oz is about 3x times cheaper than in the UK.
  2. Hi. I'd imagine this info is here some where already, but I cant find it yet...? I'm starting the immigration process only, I'm getting some documents together in prep for meeting immigration advisor's (as haven't a clue which way we will qualify) but before we start paying any money to advisor's, it would be great to find a link to a website where there are a list of jobs; especially sites that would be for 457 visa holders/applicants? Maybe there is no such site, but if any one can give guidance on this approach I would be very appreciative. Cheers DV :radar:

    Helpful links thread.

I have just copied these links from another thread on housing sites and shopping, hopefully someone will find them helpful. Remember you will be roughly paid about $2.2 to £1, when you get your skilled job in Australia, ignore the current exchange rate, you will be paid in dollars and the cost of things shopping needs to be based on this rate, for you to judge the cost of items, but you can still get things cheaper than Coles. www.realestate.com.au www.domain.com.au www.realestatewa.com.au www.real-estate-australia.com.au Check out grocery prices on: www.coles.com.au woolworths.com.au

  9. Please can anyone tell me about the new / proposed transport stuff that is going on (or proposed) in Melbourne. Where can I find information on what is happening, what new rail links, tram networks are proposed and how this will affect the various suburbs i.e I keep hearing about Altona being cut from the rail timetables - why, when and a new road or tunnel into the city ??
  10. Large family home available on the 16th April in a great location in Mindarie - 63 Bellport Parade. ** FIRST HOME OPEN ** WED 30TH APRIL 2.40PM ** Call to arrange another viewing if this time doesn't suit. It has four bedrooms. The master bedroom has a large en-suite, reverse cycle air con and walk in wardrobe. The three other bedrooms all offer built in wardrobes. There is a great sized living area at the front of the property and two other very good sized family areas to the rear, with reverse cycle air con and a wood-burning stove. The games room opens out to the alfresco area and overlooks the large lawn. The property has a double garage and a shopper's entry to the kitchen. There is a dishwasher, oven and pantry. It takes 4 minutes to walk to Quinns Baptist College, Peter Moyes and Mindarie College saving a huge wait in the school traffic. Or jump on the bus which is a short journey to Clarkson train station. The house is in the preferred Mindarie Primary catchment area. There is a lovely walk through the park at the end of the road, along the coastal paths to Quinns beach and Portofino's cafe. The local pub is The Boat at Mindarie Marina. Great spot! We are breaking the lease to buy. You can contact me direct to view and the agency - Century 21 in Clarkson. Secure your rental quickly and be the first to view! The rent is $470 p/week. It is available from the 16th April. My mobile is: 0426 811 558 (or +61 426 811 558). If you are coming from overseas, you can ask someone else to view on your behalf, including your relocation agent. Every estate agency has more or less the same application form from REIWA. Ask a rental agency to email or fax this to you. If you wish to rent a property you submit an application and the owner chooses the tenant they prefer. There is a lot of competition for rentals at the moment so I would advise you to get the ball rolling from the UK end so that you are not stuck, like we were! The agency details and photos are available through the link. Thanks. www.realestate.com.au/property-house-wa-mindarie-405122858

  16. Australia unveiled plans today to strengthen links with the UK, announcing the launch of the inaugural G’dayUK initiative. Highlighting the unique range of skills, resources and opportunities offered by Australia, the heavy-weight burst of activity aims to reinforce business and consumer partnerships between the two nations through a series of events covering four main areas: trade & investment, food & wine, migration and tourism. This is sure to increase travel opportunities for Australian bureaucrats, pardon my cynicism.....

    Visa Helpful links

I am hoping that people here can share helpful links and advice for completing the forms for the visa. I know there must be hundreds of websites that would give valuable advice, but time is against us all. So if people have already found useful websites please feel free to post them here to help me and other newbies . Things like RPL, Visa apps, and so on. Thanks Paul :notworthy:
  19. :jiggy:G'Day Sport ! I was wondering if anyone knew what the transport links from Noosa or the Sunshine Coast area were like going into Brisbane CBD by Train/Ferry etc. because I am in the throws of securing a job in the CBD but really want to live near the beach eg, Noosa which looks lovely and I cannot find any good transport links. Please let me know if you are aware of reliable rail links from Sunshine Coast to the CBD. Thanks ever so much. Take care x
  20. Hi, I'm new to the site (and by the way, think its great!) and at the beginning of the migration process, we have been in touch with a company whom will complete the visa on a 'no visa-no fee' basis. I guess we need to make sure we have enough points before the visa process commences. Melbourne is somewhere we would like to move to... l work in the aerospace industry and my husband is in IT. If anyone, can please send me a guide to Melbourne, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm unsure of the suburbs and would like some recommendations of the 'places to be'. We have two children (4yrs & 6months) so good schooling would be essential, nice parks, nice area etc. Can anyone suggest any good websites for migration, jobs etc. there seems to be so many, and nothing is better than personal recommendations ! Last question (for now) how long does the average visa take? Thanks for your help. Rachel

    New Links Thing

Hi all, i have added a new section to this website called links. We all have very golden links when migrating to Australia so I thought this might be a good way of sharing with the other here. I have added all the ones I had on PiO orginally. Please feel free to add more! The link is here: http://www.pomsinoz.com/links/ Cheers Tim
  25. As is happening in UK, Australian house prices going through roof in major centres, e.g. latest news Sydney Squeeze is on for the renter crowd http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2007/02/10/1170524349571.html?from=top5 Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane are not cheap, many regional areas are significantly cheaper, but not necessarily long way from cities., e.g. Victoria Warnambool, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Bairnsdale etc. and SE and South Coast NSW Albury/Wodonga, Batemans Bay, Ulladulla, Bega, Narooma etc. Other benefit with these samller cities are easier to get into the local community. Big city prices make Adelaide (and Hobart) attractive cities, and versus regional QLD, e.g. Townsville, Cairns etc., personally think better option i.e. Adelaide working city of 1 mill (versus transient retirees etc. in QLD), temperate Mediterranean climate and more liberal or less red neck National links for real estate: http://www.domain.com.au http://www.realestate.com.au Info on regional cities and towns: http://www.communityguide.com.au Cheers Andrew, http://www.aiec.biz
