    Lady Elliot Island

Afternoon all, anybody been to Lady Elliot Island, we are thinking of doing a 2 day 1 night trip there as it looks lovely, we realise that this is probably not the most spectacular part of the reef as it is at its most southern point but i dont think we will have time to go any further north. Any thoughts appreciated
  2. Hi everyone... I'm hoping to ship my Jaguar XK8 over to Oz and having read a few of the threads I did get the impression that the car needs to have been driven in the UK for th 12 months preceding the shipping. I have owned the vehilce for 5 years but for the past 18 months she has been been tucked up in my garage as I just haven't had the time to drive her. Does anyone know what the situation is? Can my car be left on a SORN decleration until shipping or do I need to get her MOT'd, taxed and insured for the 12 months beforehand?? Also, has anyone shipped a car over using a 40ft container into which they have also packed their personal belongings. This is an option we are considering. Thanks in advance. Spencer

    I Met A PIO Lady

Yesterday I met Pommie lady and Paul, her OH. It was a first for me to meet a PIO member and I am very pleased to say that I was really thrilled to catch up with them. Pommielady came up to Mackay from Tassie to meet her new work collegues and yesterday she had a free day. A great shame that we had a cyclone pending, which meant that the usually blue sky and sea was all grey and small rain scuds. But no matter, I met a really nice young couple. Today at 6am Qld time, they fly south, back to Tassie. I just hope the plane ride is not bumpy, as the now ex-cyclone is directly above Mackay. Cheers, Bobj. PS...Don't tell her, but I think she's gorgeous.
  4. Hi, Yes I'm a ring-in and an Aussie, sorry about that, hope you don't hold that against me. :cute: Recently moved back to Cairns after a bit of a stint down south (Townsville & Melbourne) and I'm hoping to meet a nice English girl. I love an English accent but more than that I really enjoy the company, different outlook & friendly nature of someone from the UK seems to have over our Aussie girls. Short of moving to the UK (maybe one day), I thought this might be a good alternative. If you're interested in catching up please feel free to drop me a line. Shane
  5. Hi Guys:jiggy: Please could you tell me what it is like to drive on Australian roads. I have only ever driven in the UK and we move to Perth on a 457 visa at the end of December. Any advice or help greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read my thread!!
  6. My first post - yaaay ! We will be moving to Oz in the next couple of years with my husbands job, so it gives me some time to re-train in something new and something which is "needed" in Oz. I have been self employed inthe past running my own businesses, or I have been working as a PA in office to CEO's, etc. I'm also qualified as a Personal Trainer and as a Nutritionist, although that qualification isn't recognised in Oz. I would like to do something which helps people, maybe a therapy of some sort, but am open to lots of new ideas. Many thanks ! :v_SPIN:

  8. I'm saying nothing................
  9. Hi Everyone, We are November applicants going for a 136 MODL visa. A friend of ours would like to emigrate also but is over the upper age limit. She is 48 and has a large amount of money that she would bring with her. Not sure whether she wants to work or not and understands that the Australian Government would expect her to fund all her medical expenses, insurance etc. She really is a great girl and I would love to see her over there. Does anyone know of a way in for her. Any help really would be appreciated as if there really is no way, she would be better off knowing for sure at this stage. (Alternatively, I will have to look at the Australian dating pages and try and get her hooked up with a young stud!!LOL) Hope to hear from you soon Regards Carol

    TRA, THE LADY SAYS YES

Have got my TRA result, its a yes, im a painter/decorator, done it all myself and saved money not using an agent, i had to go back 20 years. To be honest it wasnt as bad as it looks, i think my trade certificates, years of experience, and a good detailed explenation of my job description and daily task together with a some employer refs was sufficiant. Going to Mandurah in Oct for 2 weeks and will go to Gov office and put the SIR app in. If i can help anyone in building trade with there TRA send a message. Good luck. CHRIS
