  10. This may seem trivial compared to questions about property and education so I apologise, but could anyone PLEASE pass on the name & number of a good mobile hairdresser who can take on a new client living in Bunbury? In 7 months I've spent a fortune in several local salons and can't believe how expensive they all are - and for an "ok" result. Thanks in advance!!
  11. BBQ RULES : As BBQ Season is upon us. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity. When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion: Routine... (1) The woman buys the food and Beers. (2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert. (3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the BBQ - beer in hand. (4) The woman remains outside the compulsory three meter exclusion zone where the exuberance of testosterone and other manly bonding activities can take place without the interference of the woman. Here comes the important part: (5) The man places the meat on the BBQ More routine... (6) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery. (7) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is looking great. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he flips the meat. Important again: (8) The man takes the meat off the BBQ and hands it to the woman. More routine... (9) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces, and brings them to the table. (10) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes. And most important of all: (11) Everyone praises the man and thanks him for his cooking efforts. (12) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed “her night off”' and, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing some women! :biglaugh:

  14. Hello, I'm new here - the name's Nicola, and my hubby and I moved from Edinburgh to Perth, WA, in October last year on a 457 visa, with my hubby being on a 2 year work contract. Just a question for the women of the forum, something that has been niggling me for a while - probably a silly question. Not sure if it really belongs in the 'dilemmas' forum but I couldn't really see anywhere appropriate. My hubby and I have been very blessed so far to not have needed to see a doctor since we arrived here 6/7 months ago, so I have absolutely no idea how the Medicare system works. We do have Medicare cards and private health insurance. For a variety of reasons, before we came here, health issues fell by the wayside for quite some time before we left Scotland, and I have recently realised that it has now been way too long since I have had a smear test. I am very keen to get my next one soon, a) because I really should and b) because we are hoping to start a family within the next couple of years. So my (stupid, probably) question is: how do I go about doing this? Do I go to a GP (as in, a doctor at a local medical practice) or do I go to a gynaecologist? If I should go to a gyno, do I need to get a referral from a GP first? Sorry if the answer is really obvious, I just struggled to find this info online and apparently my local GP charges a $75 consultation charge which the tight Scot in me would rather not pay, if I could just go directly to the gyno :-) Thanks, Nicki

  19. Come on admit it, ladies does you box get so full that you couldn't possibly get anything else in it. Calm down, calm down. Just asking if your PM boxes ever get too full, as ladies I would imagine they do, because we all know you talk too much. Just a question is all.:wubclub: Cheers Tony.:embarrassed::eek::wubclub:
  20. Me  Well ok maybe not so happy smiley. I never knew such a place existed as this. Hopefully I can glean some much needed information in the coming weeks about my impending move to Melbourne. (Lots of questions I'm sure)
  21. Thought we may need a bit of fun tonight, so ladies (and gents if you want to join in) I have a dilemma. Never really been one to conform to any great degree. With this in mind, and my age (47) I was wondering if I should have my hair redone. I had for a few years had my hair dyed (professionally :embarrassed:)silver/white. However, at that time I was often off my head and no grasp of reality.:goofy: But now I have my family back in my life is it a step too far. My plan is to have if fairly short and dyed again silver/white, a bit like the pic I have included, forget Philip for a minute ladies, I'm talking about the hair. Anyway my youngest daughter reckons it would look 'cool', but my eldest has refuse to talk about it. My better half just nods in the right places, as she gave up a long time ago on me.:wubclub::biglaugh: Bearing in mind it will be a huge change, from nearly black to silver/grey is this a wise path to take. As I said never one to conform and all that. Just want a change is all, but am I too old to get this done? Serious question ladies, your advice would be appreciated.:wubclub: Cheers Tony.

I live in Sydney in the St George area but am able to travel (within reason) to find a good hairdresser! I have lived here for two years and am yet to find a hairdresser i trust...are there any Poms who are hairdressers on this site that are willing to help??? I have my hair highlighted and cut, nothing particularly fancy but I look forward to having my hair done and would appreciate a visit that doesn't end in tears (the last few have!!). I hope someone can help or recommend a good hairdresser for me. I look forward to hearing from you!!! Thanks, Alexandra
  24. Hi ladies, If you live close to Godwin Beach, near Bribie Island. QLD. Basically this an excuse for a chat and cuppa this Saturday at 2pm. My wife was wondering if any of the lady members would like to attend a Skin care Party. (Not selling anything). She has been given a selection of “Dr Lewinn’s” Skin care products for her friends to try at a Skin care party. There are also free samples for those who attend (sachets of Even Tone Lightening Cream and Day Cream Moisturiser). Together with a voucher for money off if you decide to go out and buy some at a later date. Samples to try on the day include. Gentle face Cleanser Cosmetic Lift Activator Cosmetic lift Powder Even tone Lightening Cream Day Cream Moisturiser She gets these samples because of signing up to a site that sends you free samples to try and on this occasion they have sent stuff for a Skin care party. We do not get anything for holding the party, (other than the samples) and there is no selling of the product involved. So if you fancy a friendly get together, and a chat let me know. It should only last an hour or so, but that depends on how much chatting is done.
  25. I thought I would add a new thread on here in the hope that it would help any ladies (or gents!) that work in admin in the UK and plan to do it in Oz, mainly because it seems that quite a few of us are struggling to get into this work once here - forewarned is forearmed as they say! In another thread jokingly discussing this, a website has been added which is offering training geared towards working in Oz - worth a look I would think! The link is http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/general-dilemmas/40452-given-up-applying-admin-jobs-anyone-need-cleaner-mount-martha.html There are plenty of vacancies on all the websites (Seek, CareerOne etc) and the local papers but what I have found in the area I live (Gold Coast) is that most of the vacancies for administrative positions require you to have experience in 'MYOB' (short I think for MindYourOwnBusiness) which for those that don't know, is a software package used for book-keeping/accounting etc similar to Sage and Quickbooks. The latter 2 are used here but MYOB is clearly the favourite/most popular. This has caught me out because I would naturally have expected book-keeping type positions to expect experience in this type of package but not general admin. They almost always expect you to have a certificate to show for it too and preferably also in Microsoft Office - Word/Powerpoint/Excel etc! I am self taught in Quickbooks (although I hate book-keeping but needs must sometimes LOL) and Word/Powerpoint etc (used it for donkeys years), familiar with Sage along with 25+ years of experience in general admin/secretarial stuff but am having no luck so far despite altering my CV/Resume to suit the aussie market (I had hoped LOL). Guess it's also a case of employers wanting aussie experience but you can't get the experience without a job :twitcy: Never mind, will just have to continue wallowing in the lovely sunny winters days here hehe! Lyn x
