  3. Hi, We will be moving to Melbourne in September and are starting to get things packed up for the move. However, there are a few items that we wish to bring with us, which may be frowned upon, due to the nature of their intended use and the materials they are made of. One such item is a Zassenhaus wooden coffee grinder, from West Germany. Is this going to be jumped on by the customs/quarantine inspectors, as it has been used and is wooden? We also have some vintage wooden ice skates from Holland. The metal blades have rusted, as they are purely decorative and are kept outside (on a balcony - we have no garden). Because they too are wooden, will they be allowed, particularly with the rust? Obviously, we can't bring food products with us, but we do wish to bring as much of the kitchen equipment as possible. Are there any no-nos you can advise on? We'd hate to lose any of our stuff and/or get fined, when we could just sell any items of risk before we leave. Thanks for your help. pearljamfan

    Kitchen suppliers in Melbourne

Hi, Does anyone have any recomendations on kitchen suppliers in Melbourne? Have checked out yellow pages but its mind boggling! Thanks - any suggestions appreciated.
  6. Hi I arrived in Sydney a month ago. In the UK I had my own kitchen business for 5 years doing customer visits to plan and sell the kitchen, then project managing the installations doing the kitchen fitting myself along with my business partnet. We also had a team of sub contractors for things like Gas & Electric. I am currently looking into the licenses required to fit over here but apparently I can work under someone elses license as a fitters mate? I don't have any tools or transport at this time but again I am looking into this. If anyone needs or knows of anyone who needs a mate that would be great! I am available immediately. I am based in Mosman but have good transport links to the North Shore and the CBD. Cheers, Andy
  7. My partner is currently working for a kitchen company in Brisbane and they need another kitchen fitter. If you have experience in kicthen fitting or are a carpenter joiner who wants to move into this field and learns quickly then let me know if you are interested. I am posting this as we struggled to find work when we first got here and are still in the process of sorting out his licenses but he is overseen by someone who has the appropriate licenses and so it is all above board. As the compnay is also struggling to find the right person, my partner is working long hours and so it would help him out if he can help find someone good to work with. If you want to know more then let me know and I can get him to contact you. Thanks, Leanne

    My Kitchen Rules

Has anyone been watching the series, it's nearly at the end, but have really enjoyed it. Although I hate Anne Marie and how Nick puts up with her I have no idea (hope they aren't members on here:confused:) I think Daniela and Stefania and looking favourites although Kane and Lee from Melbourne will be hot at their heals.
  13. Hi All We moved to Sydney in November and when we first arrived we bought some basic kitchen bits, most of which we don't now need as our furniture has arrived, so I thought I would see whether they could be passed on to reduce that initial expense for someone else. I've got dinner plates, small plates, bowls and mugs - 4 of each all white. Some sturdy plastic cutlery, a small pan and a large pan with lids, 3 plastic chopping boards (thin), some utensils and could probably find a few other bits if anyone was interested. We also have a double blow up mattress that could be borrowed, as long as we get it back by beginning of april. Give me a shout if you're interested, I'm quite happy to bring them around if it's not too far. We're in Mount Colah. Natalie

    Ants in the kitchen

We seem to have a big problem with ants in the kitchen of our rental house. We don't leave food/crumbs on the worktops but every day we have lots of them running about. They are starting to get on my nerves now. Can anybody tell me if this is perfectly normal (or a problem with our rental). We are north of the river in Perth. Any suggestions on how to get rid of them would be great.
  22. There is an excellent 'Kitchen Gardens Program' running in some Victorian Schools. Jamie Oliver visited one of the schools in his '15 Melbourne' show and raved about the program. This is what it is about basically: In the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program children across Years 3 to 6 spend a minimum of 40 minutes a week in an extensive vegetable garden which they have helped design, build and maintain on the school grounds according to organic gardening principles. They also spend one and a half hours each week in a kitchen classroom preparing and sharing a wonderful variety of meals created from their produce. The aim of the Kitchen Garden Program is pleasurable food education for children. The Program develops lifelong skills in the kitchen and garden and encourages children to enjoy all the benefits of growing, harvesting, preparing and sharing. The website is: Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden You will find a list of participating schools on this site. They are expanding to more schools.
