  4. Hi all, not totally Australia themed, but you will get the gist fairly soon. It is very rare for me to be able to say that I would watch a film more than once, I may enjoy some films, but once seen I very rarely watch it again, BUT. Decided to spoil the good lady yesterday, instead of the normal Big Mac :embarrassed: and fries we decided to go to the flicks and see The Kings Speech. I was very tentative to begin with because the film has been so hyped up that 'normally' the actual film can come as a disappointment. But this was the exception. Whilst I don't normally 'do' Colin Firth, (Darcy) and all that, I must say he was fantastic in the part, absolutely fantastic, BUT, this is where the Australian connection comes in. Now this is the Aussie connection. Though I have seen Geoffrey Rush in many films and thought what a great actor he is, this part as the speech therapist is truly awe inspiring. Whilst Colin Firth is nominated as best actor, to me Mr Rush well and truly steals the show, and whilst (I think) he is nominated for best supporting actor I honestly reckon he deserve the best actor Oscar. I know his lines are written for him, but the way he delivers them is out of this world, especially the more subtle 'comedic' lines, timing and deliverance are exceptional. If you looking for a film full of sex, violence, action this is not for you, but if you are looking for a film that examines the relationship between two men over time and the way they become so reliant on each other then this is the film for you. As I said, I very rarely see a film more than twice, but this is one film I would willingly watch again tomorrow, if it doesn't clean up at the Oscars I will be gob smacked, I really will. Geoffrey Rush :notworthy::notworthy: after this performance should be known as a truly GREAT actor, up with those bygone stars and the more modern stars such as Pacino, Hurt and DeNiro. Just a thought, but if you want to see one of the truly great films of the modern era you could do a lot worse than The Kings Speech. Cheers Tony.

    The Kings Speech

Went to see it yesterday - It was one of those films where I thought this is either going to be Ok or dire! It was actually one of the best films I've seen in a long time!! Give it a go - hope you like it as much as I did! Daniel

    Kings cross sydney

Can I strongly advise that people avoid Kings cross in Sydney, My eight months pregnant partner and I have just been there and somebody nutcase who said he was the owner of the market tried to promote an event there, when I politely replied that we are from England and wouldn't be around he said well **** you and the horse you came on, he then went to say how ****ing crap Portobello road market is. Nice man! and no it wasn't just a misunderstanding of mis-placed humour I have to say Australians can be much more rude and parochial that the happy go lucky Paul Hogan kind of dimwit that they try to portray.

  14. Well we had a lovely time at the Perth meet up today at Kings Park in the Lotterywest Family play area. Weather wasnt perfect but managed to battle through it and really enjoy ourselves. The children seemed to have a lovely time playing together on all the apparatus and had lots of fun running around and playing games, football, tennis etc. Luckily we were able to use one of the bbq's so made our picnic even better!!! we had loads of food to share amongst all the people who attended so everyone left full. Just want to say thankyou to all of the people that attended and Dirk was glad he took the day off work so he could come aswell and he was really pleased he spent the day dressed fully in Australian gear so people would know who we were as i stated on the Perth meet up thread ,even though he got many strange looks. It made a nice family day out, just the 4 of us!!!! Glad we wasted our time going to the meet up that noone else bothered going too especially after there were people who were desperate to meet up. Glad we drove all the way down there with tons of food for everyone which wasnt all needed. Glad i bothered to arrange the meeting for everyone. Thankyou all for ****ting on us and not even bothering to say you werent coming!!!!! Wont bother trying to help anyone out now, if you wana make friends then find your own :realmad:

For Me Is Has To Be Kings Canyon

In 1994 Polygram Filmed entertainment in association with The Australian Film Finance Corporation released a film which totally blew me away...... It caused a near riot at the Cannes film festival, won an Academy Award and blitzed the box offices everywhere. 'It's fun, daring, over-the-top and unforgettable...It's a road movie with an attitude and the occassional frock!!!' The film I am talking about is THE ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT and to this day it is still one of my all time favouite films. The advert at the time of the film said: "They're unplugging their curling wands and going bush. Bernice (Terence Stamp) Mitzi (Hugo Weaving) and Felicia (Guy Pearce) take the outback by storm in this ab fab tale of 3 drag queens who hit the road in a pink bus called Pricilla and head for Alice Springs to perform a cabaret show like no other" And because of this film I fell in love with Kings Canyon and the Australian outback persay..... On Wednesday 17th of April 1996 I full filled my dream and climbed Kings Canyon - just like the film and IT MADE MY DAY!!! Kings Canyon is nestled in the George Gill Ranges set within the Watarrka National Park...I have cut and pasted the offical guide book description of the Canyon for you to read and hopefully wet your appetite to go and see for yourselves...Kings Canyon features ancient sandstone walls, modeled by the elements and rising up 100m to a plateau of rocky domes. This scenic landscape of rugged ranges, rock-holes, and moist gorges act as a refuge for many plants and animals, thus making the Park a significant conservation area as well as a major attraction of central Australia. Watarrka National Park is also home to many waterholes and areas of lush vegetation, which contain more than 600 plant species, 100 bird species, and 60 species of reptiles. The park is located about 330km southwest of Alice Springs and can be reached by 4WD vehicles. Major walkways include The Kings Creek Walk, which is a 1.3km walk leading to the Kings Creek lookout point and The Kings Canyon Walk, a 6km walk leading to the stunning views of the buttressed domes of the Lost City and the Garden of Eden. Believe me it's a spectacular place .... why not watch the film to wet your appetite!! Miranda :wubclub: sorry i have no photos as i visited in the days before digital technology but if you put in a search for the Canyon you will find loads of sites with photos xx
