    Skills assessment for a kiwi?

Hi all, My husband is a New Zealand Citizen & I'm a British Citizen, we currently live in the UK. I wonder if you could help us please. I am at the beginning of the process of applying for a PR visa, I've submitted my skills assessment to AIR, I'm a Radiation Therapist, and l have my IELTS exam on Saturday. I need to get the maximum points of 20, or do I? My question is can l gain 5 points from my husbands qualification as a Joiner/Carpenter gained in New Zealand? Does he still need to go through the skills assessment process? Thanks in advance for any help. Jules
  3. Hi All I have been working as a self employed Joiner and partitions and ceiling fitter for 18 years but left college when i was 18 just before i took exams, so i am essentially unqualified. In 18 years ive never been out of work and never looked back, and we decided a move to Australia was our future. I signed up with immigration2oz migration agents who advised an assessment from vic uni which came back unsuccessful and i took IELTS at Level 7. I came over to Perth last June to try and find an Employer so i could move out with my wife and 3 Children, i had a lot of interest but because i didnt live in Oz no one could offer the 457 for 2 years that i needed. I would consider anywhere in Oz and Any advise would be appreciated. Terry
  4. Hello, Putting this post out there to get a few feelers on joinery work in Sydney. I am a qualifed joiner with a 4 year apprenticeship and 10 years’ experience. I work as a joiner on houses/building sites - fitting new kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, decking etc. If anyone reads this who is a joiner it would be good to hear about what joinery work is like in Sydney. From what I see on seek.com.au it's mainly cabinet maker jobs which isn't the type of worked I'd be looking to do. If you have any information on joinery work, pay etc that would be great. Thanks,
  5. Hi everyone. We have just arrived in Sydney 6 weeks ago on a Skilled Migrant Visa. I am a qualified Joiner (Carpenter) and am looking for work. I have hand tools and my power tools are due to arrive mid-December. I am living in Hornsby and have my own transport. If anyone can help, if you have a building company and are looking for people, or if you know anyone who may be able to point me in the right direction, I would love to hear form you! I am enthusiastic and keen to work!!!! Thanks!
  6. Hi all We are coming to Perth in mid February 2011 on WHV and just wondered what is the best way to go about finding joinery or carpentry work? We are pretty flexible about which suburb we work and live in. Also, what is the typical hourly rate of pay for this type of work? (Fully trained joiner with 10 years experience). Many thanks
  7. Hi All, OH will be sitting his vetassess practical for carpenter/joiner in August. Would anyone who has recently passed their joinery/carpentry practical (May 2010), mind posting what was involved please? I have read some posts on here and Matt (Wolla Bolla Bing Bong) advised me what he did in his practical last year. (big thanx Matt! ::notworthy:) I just want to check to see if anything much has changed please? grateful thanks clan mac x
  8. Hi all, I have finally made my decision on where to live once I finally get my visa (whenever that might be), and I have chose the Sunshine Coast. I particularly like the Caloundra area but anywhere near there would be good enough for me. I am looking to send my Resume off to various construction companies within the Sunshine coast or Brisbane area so I could improve my chances of finding employment and was wondering if anyone could possibly supply me with some Construction names? I have searched over the net but finding it a little struggle to find any big name construction companies, so if anyone out there could provide me with some would be very much appreciated. Cheers Matt
  9. Hi folks, I'm in the very early stages of looking at immigrating and am a joiner (in Scotland) with 8 years experience. I was trained by my Dad so have no formal qualification (apart from an NVQ 2). As in the title will the AQF level 3 mean that I don't have to do the practical for VETASSESS?? or do I still have to sit that. I'm looking at paying £3,750 to ACTS tradetrain and want to know if this is gonna be money wasted? (as the VETASSESS costs another grand!)
