  2. Hi all, Just wondered if anyone had any info on what it's like to live on Bribie Island. We will be moving to Brisbane 16th June and I'm trying to research some areas before we come. I've heard Bribie island mentioned a few times, it looks great online and the rentals seem very reasonable so I'm wondering whether I'm missing something?? Is it a nightmare traffic wise over the bridge or something. I saw someone who lives there say it was great but not for everyone. We're a family of 4 with kids of 3 & 9, not really city types, always lived in rural/village locations in uk and I'm looking at jobs in hospitals north of Brisbane. Any comments or advice much appreciated Ellie x

Came across Macleay & Island Russell Island in Brisbane and the Rentals are so so cheap and what a beautiful place. 8. A LONDON newspaper report suggesting Fraser Island is infested with crocodiles has puzzled Queenslanders. The report, published in The Telegraph under the headline "The world's most dangerous beaches'', warns visitors of possible encounters with saltwater crocodiles on the Queensland tourist island. Tourism Minister Jan Jarratt says the story, under a photoshopped picture of a large grinning saltwater croc, might have been inspired by a prank in which a huge styrofoam monster was placed on a beach some years ago. The Fraser Coast Chronicle published photos in 2006 taken by Korean tourists of the huge croc on the sand, paint peeling from its nose and eyes. An Aussie couple also released photos of their baby daughter sitting on the fake monster's head. The Telegraph's story should be taken as seriously as the tales of mythical "drop bears'' Australians have told to spook gullible tourists, Ms Jarratt says. "If we're going to be concerned about the crocodile story on Fraser Island we might also want to look out for the drop bears,'' she said. "As far as I can ascertain, this was based on a story in 2006 that was typical Queensland humour, where a fake crocodile was photographed on the island and made a bit of a hit around the world.'' To avoid disappointment, tourists looking for crocodile encounters would need to look further north, the minister says.

    Lady Elliot Island

Afternoon all, anybody been to Lady Elliot Island, we are thinking of doing a 2 day 1 night trip there as it looks lovely, we realise that this is probably not the most spectacular part of the reef as it is at its most southern point but i dont think we will have time to go any further north. Any thoughts appreciated
  12. Hi all me (30), my wife (30) and kids (7, 6 and 2) have recently moved from the UK (Hull - Yorkshire) and we are wondering how you actually start to build a friend network. Back home we have left some great friends behind but did expect to meet people here. The kids go to Coombabah school but the parents don't hang around the playground like back home so bonds are hard to build. We have had quick chats in supermarkets but that was when were at a friends in Robina. Any advise or even people who feel like they are in a similar boat could get in touch. PS - I feel like a total tw@t for having to do this haha Ginger......or just call me Rob

    Phillip Island - MotoGP

Hi we live in Perth and my husband is thinking of going to the bike grand prix later this year. Just wondering if anybody has already been and know of any coach companies etc. that do transfers from the CBD to the track and back, or good reasonably priced places to stay etc. Any information that you can give us including phone numbers or websites would be great. Anybody else thinking of going or has been and can let us know what it is like. Thanks, Dawn.

  18. Has anyone had any experience of Club Med here? Planning our first "proper" family holiday in 3 years and really fancy the all inclusive experience they offer. Just deciding between the 2 resorts. Have heard a few horror stories lately about "Bali belly", so am a bit wary even though its the easiest option for us from Perth. Any advice/experience would be appreciated.

  21. Hi all ! My wife, three kids and I are preparing for our reccie to Brisbane in August 2010 and we can't wait! I am currently planning the trip, we are flying to Sydney and seeing that for a few days then driving up to Brisbane to stay in a rental for the rest of our 3 week trip. We are planning on doing the Gold Coast theme parks, beaches etc.. also seeing all Brisbane and the Sunshine coast has to offer. My question is this. I am sure that Fraser Island is beautiful and well worth a visit, but is it much better than Bribie, Stradbroke or Moreton island? It is just that it is a long drive from Brisbane and I am wondering if it has much more to offer us than the islands mentioned above which are much nearer to Brisbane? Your help would be appreciated. Many thanks! Martin

  24. Hi there I'm going to be in Hamilton Island at the end of July and would be grateful for any recommendations on restaurants, tours, must see/do whilst I'm there. Thanks!
  25. We have often sat on the beach at Bribie and looked at the faraway land in the distance that is Moreton Island - we never thought in a million years our tiny little old boat would get us there, though. But she did - yesterday's weather and tide conditions were as perfect as they were ever going to be for a reccie over there, so off we went. We had a picnic on the beach, the kids and hubby snorkelled off the Tangalooma Wrecks (for the uninitiated, these are old boats that have been placed off shore in order to encourage coral to grow, which it is doing very well) and we generally had a fine old time. The water is the most gorgeous green-blue and you can see the fish swimming under the surface, it's so clear. Truly stunning. If anyone gets the chance to go, please do...it's beautiful and really deserves a look. I've posted some pics that I took on my profile so you can have a peek if you like ...thank you "Marie" for getting us there:wubclub: Sue x
