Hi everyone, I am newbie, I hope to learn more from this community. Thanks. Aaren
  5. I was thinking that, if it was adapted to Australia's way of life, say with a lifting of the restrictions on drinking alcohol and gambling, it would be a pretty sound system, especially for blokes, unless they are gay or course. Looking around the world, many countries already implement it. I think the Archbishop of Canterbury is keen to see it implemented in the UK? Imagine Australia with no pubs, no Melbourne Cup, no pokies. I already hate gambliing so if I can just learn to do the same to beer, it would be brilliant. And there's a fortune to be made, sewing up all those rather attractive black Darth Vader gowns for the Sheilas. What do you think?
  6. Hi guys! I'd like to say hello and introduce myself, I'm a 26 year old male from Edinburgh that has been given a job offer in Melbourne and is weighing up the move . As the title suggests I'd like to get your opinions on my scenario as they will all be extremely helpful and hopefully help me in my decision to relocate. I live and work in Edinburgh in the I.T/Finance sector and have been offered a similar role in the same company but in Melbourne Victoria. My employers have offered the following to me: 62K AUD + Superannuation Sponsorship of a 457 visa Accomodation provided for the first month As a single 26 year old guy what sort of position will this leave me in Melbourne in terms of living costs/accomodation etc? Will I be comfortable as I'm in quite a decent position over here currently and I have a fear about "taking a step back" as I dont know the costs/currency value there? Thanks in advance, Rob

    Proper Introduction!

Thought I'd give everyone an insight into how long its taken me to start my new life in Oz So, I'm John, been with my partner for officially just under two years but we've been getting together for 4 years (since she came to the UK). The wife is an Australian Citizen so I am here under the Spouse category Visa and hope to have permanent residency sometime soon as we're planning children Timeline of events: March 14th 2010 - Proposed to the mrs, thankfully she said yes, it was a ring she had picked out that I bought. Down on one knee knowing the answer wasn't gonna be a no didnt help my nerves! She was laughing at the fact that I was shaking like a rattlesnakes tail when I went down on one knee! May 6th - Approached the AMC (Australian Migration Company) and was referred to Lee. He went through the details. At this point the wedding was set for September 2011. May 9th 2010 - Paperwork received. Looked through it and was pleased I had a migration agent looking after me! The sole amount of work required to process a visa was a little overwhelming! June 1st 2010 - Change of plan! Wedding bumped up a little to October 30th 2010, started flapping, the two of us now going for rings, dresses and suit fittings, looking for a church and paying the initial deposit of the agents fees. I'll jump forward to my medical at this stage as the next 2 months after June pretty much concentrated on the wedding plans.....and the groom to be and wife to be working our backsides off to get the money together! August 14th - Medical! Quick trip to Edinburgh to have this done, bloods/urine/xrays all done, blood pressure a little high...panic! Doctor assured me that was nerves. They let me stay around for another couple of hours, drinking a lot of water and calming me down, the ladies were really helpful . After the 2 hours pressure was normal woohoo! September - Police Checks, witness testimonies, personal statements, evidence of relationship, phone bills, rent accounts etc all submitted. Photographs too. There was a lot of back and forth mail going at this point between us and the agent making sure we had ticked all the appropriate boxes. Agent assured me that everything was fine and there should be no reason the Visa would not be approved. Back to wedding planning! October - Agent has all paperwork, just the marriage certificate to go. c/o assigned my case. Hypnotist, caterer, decorations for wedding all booked. Dress picked up and the wife to be was happy it fit without the use of special underwear lol. All coming together, although at this point I had gone through 2 best men and the third was unsure of the speech! (known the guy for 12 years, we have been through many 'adventures' which due to the prim and proper nature of the soon to be in-laws could not be disclosed lol). Went for rehearsal wedding at the church, our Vicar was lovely bless her, it was her first wedding at that church so she was a little nervous. Hymns, readings and music all planned and paid for the DJ at reception. October 30th 2010 - Wedding day! Lets just say it was memorable (in a good way) and all the stress, hassle and feuds were worth it November 2nd - c/o received last piece of the puzzle (wedding cert) and visa application now underway. Clearance date set as the 4th April 2011. November 10th - Crown Relocations booked for December 7th to collect and empty our house. December 7th - house looked empty! A month of having a small TV and sitting on bean bags, but was all worth it December 31st - last day at current employment! Both hung up boots to spend final weeks with family in England. January 10th 2011 - First leg of flight, heading to London to see the sights for a couple of days January 12th - Bye Bye England! So, a lengthy read (aplogies if you got bored lol) but since January 14th I have been residing in Queensland. So far this country is great, but bloody hot! Living with the Mother in law until my Visa has cleared and I can get a job. The wife works her little bum off, bless her I'm really grateful to everything that both my wife and yes, even the mother in law, have done for us. I mean, where we're living there is a gym, jacuzzi, sauna and pool on the complex! How many homes in England offer that! I love my new life here, and can't wait to settle down, start a family and own our own home. All in good time John

Hello to everyone on this site, . 2 months ago we had not even thought about going to Oz. Oh how things have changed OH was approached with the offer of a position at RMIT (melbourne university) Since then house as been put up for sale and we have started to declutter the garage (big job). We have been told that OH can go on a employer sponsored visa distinguished talent. However application not put in yet , though they want him there for beginning of next year. The employer are paying for us to fly out to have a look around in October. I have been reading the messages and the time scale seems very quick compared to what other people seem to have to go through. The big stumbling block at this end is trying to sell the house in the current climate and having to take a big drop in price compared to what houses were worth last year. I will keep everyone informed as to our progress. :v_SPIN:

    Introduction and query on 175?

Hi all! I have been a reader of this site for well over a yr now and thought it about time i introduced us! I'm Jo (28) a paediatric nurse and my partner Mark (37) an electrical engineer and i are planning to move to oz with our 2yr old william hopefully in the next 1-2yrs. We're unsure of what area we want to move to yet, going to visit Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide when we validate visas to finally decide! We sold our house in march this yr, lodged our visa (175) on 30-06-09. Still not been assigned a CO although from what i've read this could take some time despite our migration agents telling us it should be within 4-6wks! So has anyone got any realistic ideas as to when this could all happen? Look forward to 'chatting' more with you over the coming months, be fab to get to know others in the same boat! Jo

Hello everyone, I've just signed up as My husband and I are in the process of moving to Perth with our daughter. I've mainly come on here for advice as to what to do etc. We've applied for our Visa and have just recieved a letter to say we have our Case Worker which is what tempted me to speak to a few others about their experiences. We are going on a recreational visit to Perth for Christmas although aren't planning to move there until Sept. next year. As you have probably guessed I'm new so I apologise if this thread is in the wrong place etc etc. I look forward to talking to you all Thanks in advance for all of the advice I'm sure I'll recieve. Hi to everyone - introduction

Hi to all- I've no idea if this is in the right place, or if will even work, but here goes!! This is our first time on this forum, and isn't it great. Introductions...my name is Claire and i'm a nurse. My hubby, John is a NEBOSH qualified health and safety advisor/surveyor. We have 3 children-William 11yrs, Charlotte 9yrs and not forgetting our little angel Gracie aged 5yrs!!(mind you looks can be sooo deceptive!!) We have been looking into emmigrating for quite some time now, and have looked at nz aswell as australia. They both have so much to offer, and we are so confused. I think we are heading more towards aus now, but everything looks so daunting!! We are so undecided on which area to concentrate on, also as to whether we should use an agent to help us through it, and if so any suggestions? What should our next step be??? should i send off my cv to some health boards, or recruitment agencies-my mind is in overdrive at the moment!, and also do i need to go through all the registration process before i even do any of that??? John is wondering how easy it would be for him to get work. He has also just completed the nebosh trade certificate in construction health and safety as well as already having the general certificate in h & s. He would very much to concentrate on the construction side of things, but is unsure about the opportunities he would have open to him. I have been a qualified nurse since 93, and worked on surgical wards, paediatrics and my last position was as a school nurse in charge of a medical centre in a girls independant boarding school. I have had a break for 18 months, and have just applied for some jobs, one of which i have an interview for on monday-aaargh!!! So i was wondering whether i would be ok in finding a job in aus??? So sorry for all the questions, we are stressing so much, what with the house on the market, and now wondering if we would even be eligible to migrate to aus, and if so how best to go about it. Anyway if anyone has any suggestions on any of the ramblings above i really would be sooo grateful. Many many thanks Claire & co x :goofy:
