    Increased baggage allowance

Has anyone managed to get a higher baggage allowance with Singapore Airlines, I have got a Temp spouse visa?. We are trying to get our luggage down to 20kgs each, but its not working!!!!! Dont know whether we should try our luck and if not send the extra through an excess baggage company at Heathrow Any one else experienced this? Thanks
  3. Hi, We've just booked our flights with Singapore Airlines (heading out next month! ) When booking, I asked if we would qualify for an increased baggage allowance as we are migrating. I was advised that if we had an 'unused' migrant visa then we would automatically be entitled to double the allowance. Does anyone know how they classify 'unused'? Our visa was granted in 2008, so we visited last year for a month's vacation to validate it. Would that count as 'used' or will we get away with it? Has anyone else experienced this scenario?? Thanks!
  4. Understand that Etihad now offer 30kg baggage allowance to economy class passengers. Nothing on their website when last checked but in brief conversation with Etihad office in London this was confirmed. Travel agents don't appear to have heard, odnt have any other details.
  5. Just found out Emirates have increased baggage allowance by 10kg. We are travelling to Oz on Friday and i have been panicking that all our suitcases are going to be well over loaded. Woop woop i can pack more clothes. GET IN!!!!!!!!
  6. Yesterday the Australian Senate passed the expected increase in Luxury Car Tax (LCT) from 25% to 33%. This is after the bill was rejected twice over the past two months, it was eventually passed after concessions However to confuse things further, the senate amended the bill under pressure from the Green party to include an exclusion on vehicles up to $75,000 which consume less than 7 litres of fuel per 100 Km. According to The Australian this would mean "Twenty five imported car models - including the Audi A4, BMW 3 series and Jaguar X-type - would be exempted from the tax altogether as a result of the change". This is as yet unqualified and also untested with Customs/ATO, but will probably only apply the very low end models in each marques range. Source: The Australian (one of many) This will specifically have a negative effect on anyone looking to import a high end car to Australia. As an example, this would raise the duty on a 2006 Porcshe 911 C4 from $24,000 to $33,000 Al
  7. In the recent budget the Oz government increased the level at which the Medicare levy surcharge (1%) kicks in to $100K for singles & $150K for couples, good news for any one on above average earnings.

    Increased PM's to 100 total

Hi All, Just to let you know I have increased the maximum number of PMs allowed from 75 to 100. Cheers Tim
  9. Hello I understand that when emigrating Airlines offer an incresed baggage allowance. On reserching it says that this incresed allowance is only valid on the first use of the visa. OH & I have just got back from Oz to validate our visa. Singapore Airlines count this as the first use of our visa and say that when we do actually emigrate we have to adhear to regular allowances!! Crazy!! So, the questions are: Has anyone else been affected by this & how do the airlines actually know that you have already been out on your visa? Anyone know any airlines that are more flexible? Thank you! Sam

    Increased Baggage Allowance??

Myself and husband are due to make the move in May, although thanks to the new 'wanted in oz' programme on the bbc, we change our minds daily about where we are going to go!! Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knew of an airline where you can get a higher baggage allowance than the usual 20kgs? Also, while I'm here, I'm sure I've read somewhere about references that you would have to bring with you to enable you to rent. Does anyone know exactly what we would need. We have never rented in the UK so could not bring a landlords ref with us? Thanks The Rays
