  5. Hi all, new to this. I am currently working as a lecturer in vehicle mechanics and am thinking about emmigrating with my wife and two young boys. I have spoken to an agent that says I could get a sponsored 457 visa but working as a mechanic when I arrive, I would have to work upto 10 hours overtime per week (total 48 hours) to afford to live comfotably in Perth-Quinns Rock area? Should I use this as a stepping stone to get into Australia then try and find work as a lecturer? Would I have a chance of success finding work in vocational education? Any thoughts welcome.

    What's your ideal ?

For all of those returning home what is your ideal house and location ? I would fully expect it to be as varied as it would for people coming here. Our ideal location is the South West, there are many beautiful areas in the UK but for me the South West wins it. As far as an ideal house fortunately we both love the same things. The thought of a new build puts us right off, for us the older and quirkier the better. A lovely old detached farmhouse or cottage on a decent block. Luckily they don't seem hard to find and are affordable.
  7. Hi We have a cafe for sale. A few of our regular Brit customers suggested this may be a great place to let Brits know if they were wanting to migrate under a biz visa. Thanks Nicky, Helen and Chrissy. So read on... and let me know if you're interested. SUMMARY web site to visit: At The Moorings Rent: app $1000 per week ex GST Lease: 3x3x3 (5 yrs to go but Landlords normally will extend when new owners take over) Turnover: $550,000 Net: $90,000 - $100,000 Seats: 50 All equipment is owned by us. Fitout is owned by landlord. Our business has not been as badly affected as others for the following reasons: 1) Great Location - easily in the Top 5 on the Sunshine Coast 2) Low competition - only 4 in the whole strip, and ours is the best 3) Established clientele - you can atest to this. But our demographic is middle-aged to senior, financially secure. These people are reasonable recession proof and will pay for the view and service 4) Low Rent Licenses: 1) Liquor License - app $450, 2 day course (renew every 3 years). 2) Food Safety Supervisor - 2 modules, online, $250 Due diligence: Full figures (P+L, BAS and Tax Returns) are available. Also we have Bookings Diaries and ticker tapes from Cash Register from day one. In other words, we can back up all our claims. Asking: $320,000 negotiable depending on terms of contract. The quicker and cleaner, the more negotiable we'll be. 1) I draw $440 as Consulting Fees to work the weekends. I have not included this in the NET PROFIT because it is envisaged that the new owners can either hire a weekend manager and still retain their Net, or work the business entirely themselves and keep it all. 2) Freehold. This is a possibility. Fair value is $600K - $800K. 3) Have spoken to staff who are fully trained and willing to stay. Reason For Sale The reason we are selling is after 4.5 years we want to do other things. We've made good money out of the cafe. My partner Pete has a new Saab out of it and is looking at acreage in the hinterland somewhere to live in semi retirement and I want to move back to the Gold Coast with my family and pursue my other interests. Cheers Les Toft Director/Licensee The Moorings Cafe

  9. I am going to be moving to Australia to attend the University of Melbourne. I will be earning a masters degree in Education Administration and I am attempting to create some sort of living situation for when I arrive. I have already had some offers of some people that live in Roxburgh Park. I would be arriving around July 5th and I have a lot of things that I need to work on when I arrive before my semester starts on July 23, 2008. I am hoping to find a job, purchase a vehicle, and simply settle into a long-term living situation. I am 25 years old and I'm a Language Arts teacher and a soccer coach for a competitive club team in Texas. Most of my time is spent working with youth groups and enjoying time with my friends. I really love all types of music and I come from a very large and multi-cultural family of 5 brothers and 1 sister. Money is going to be an issue and I'd like to find a living situation that would appeal to my situation. I don't know where else to go with this but the ideal job would be part-time with professional pay to allow for necessary studying, traveling, and cultural experiences. If there's anyone who lives in Melbourne, Australia that could help me out with some advice or direction I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for reading! Sincerely, -Drew
