  1. Hi there, I need to claim 5 points under skilled work experience to get pass mark however I have worked full time at forty hours a week for two yrs and ten months and have spent the last two months only parttime at 17.5 hour week. How strict are diac re 20 hour rule??????
  2. Hi, I know my question might sound a bit silly. :notworthy: But answers from you guys directly would somehow gave me an idea of the working hours over in Perth. Thanks. Jenny
  3. I suppose I did ask for rain and my wish came true, now I just need to ask for the lottery numbers:yes: FLOOD warnings are in force from Cooktown to Cardwell today after record-breaking heavy rain throughout the Far North. Cairns yesterday experienced its wettest October day since 1964 with 112mm falling from 9am to 10pm, exceeding the previous mark of 86.6mm. And there’s more to come, with the weather bureau forecasting heavy rain over the next two days. "There will be much the same over the next 36 hours," Cairns weather bureau duty forecaster Bill O’Connor said. "The heavier falls will be between Innisfail and Cairns." Mena Creek, southwest of Innisfail, yesterday recorded about 200mm in 24 hours. The heavy rain caused flooding at popular tourist attraction Paronella Park, with operators saying the area received four times the amount of rainfall it usually receives for the month in one night. More than 110mm fell at Cairns airport, almost tripling the average rainfall for October. "That average is 41.8mm for Cairns airport in October. More rain to come today, tonight and through tomorrow," Cairns meteorologist Ben Suter tweeted. Cairns SES group leader Josh Milligan said crews attended a few calls for help yesterday. "There was no real damage but preparation measures more so, with a little bit of sand-bagging in the local areas," he said. "We’ve learnt a lot from last year as we do more preparation the main thing we are looking for is at is recruitment," Mr Milligan said. The wet weather was blamed for a string of crashes in the Far North yesterday. Two separate incidents involved five-car pile-ups. The first major incident was about 4.20pm on Mulgrave Rd, near Parramatta Park State School. It was followed shortly after by another multiple crash at the intersection of Draper and Kenny streets, Portsmith, at 5.05pm. There were also minor crashes on the Gillies Highway, at Smithfield shopping centre and on the Kuranda Range road. No one was seriously hurt, although there were traffic disruptions. SES volunteers were called out to tighten tarpaulins in cyclone Yasi-affected areas where many families face a long wet season without roofs. Also yesterday, motorists were forced off the Bruce Highway north of Tully because of the heavy rain. Despite flooding concerns around the region, the downpours were still a welcome reprieve from an extended dry spell that ended with above-average temperatures for the month and weeks of a high fire danger period. Queensland Fire and Rescue Supt Alan Hogg said recent rain had eased the threat of fire in some areas but alerts were still in place "further out west". Tableland grazier Gerry Collins said the rains were "the best October present for a long, long time". "We had good rain here this morning and pretty good rain overnight," he said. "I have just been to the sale yards in Mareeba and they had pretty handy rain there too. "It is very welcome." Raymond Bin, who has a mango and grape orchard at Mutchilba, said the 30mm that fell on his property was welcomed. "I think the majority of farmers would appreciate it because it has been pretty dry in the past month," he said.

    WA SS approved in hours...!!!

We submitted application on Sunday night after midnight and had the approval at 7am Monday morning... That's got to be some kind of record...??? :-))) I was expecting to wait about 4/5 weeks! So chuffed though! So does anyone know what happens next? Do we just sit tight and wait patiently? We signed and returned the SS agreement and they said they would forward form 1100 to DIAC, is this done electronically or by post? So excited now, just don't want anything to go wrong, I will be glad to get bumped up to cat 3 from 5! Thank you, Alison xxx

Fly to Australia in a few hours.

  7. I'm leaving now at nearly midnight to walk down Elizabeth St to the pub, take me 15 mins. If anyone else is sitting at home watching on their own, get your skates on! (if you are a Spurs fan that is! - otherwise go to Cheers on George St!)
  8. We're moving back to the UK this week and have a few hours to kill in Singapore so I'm hoping you can give me some recommendations as to what to do. Our flight from Sydney arrives in Singapore at about 2.30pm and then the flight to London leaves at 9.30pm. General plan was to do some shopping (sunglasses, make-up and perfum required), have some food, perhaps grab a shower (spa or massage as well maybe) and then head off to Blighty.... However, thinking we might be able to squeeze in the zoo maybe if it's worth it. I'm 5.5 months pregnant so keen to not rush about too much, but don't want to get bored/restless. Is it best to shop in town or in Changi? Should we head out to the zoo and then get back to the airport for our shopping, shower, dinner? I guess I'm being lazy (well, and busy, removal men come tomorrow so it's chaos here at the mo), but if someone knows Singapore well and could jot us down a quick itinery that would great. Thanks!
  9. Hi Can anyone let me know how many hours a construction site Manager/Project manager works in the Perth area. I been told some horror stories of working 10 to 14 hrs a day plus travel over 6 and 7 days. Is this correct?:arghh:

    Hours of daylight

Ive just found out that Brisbane only ever has 7-8 hours of daylight all year round. We currently have 16 hours in the UK in summer and 8 in the winter, quite a difference!
  11. Just wanted to say goodbye to all the folks on Pomsinoz....... I haven't been on here for a while, been sorting stuff out, but finally ready for the off.... In 48 hours time I will be leaving on the big bird from Sydney airport and arriving in Old Blighty..... This is probably my happiest day in three and a half years.....Just can't wait to leave here now, the last two months have been the longest wait, ever. Would like to say I have enjoyed my time in Oz, but I can't, although I do like Cherry Ripes. Three and a half years ago I couldn't wait to get here with my visa in my passport, but now the smile is even broader with the knowledge that I am returning to a place with UMPH and B*****ks. If you never try, then you never know, do you? So I am leaving heavens waiting room and returning to the land of the living.... Just remember folks, if you are thinking of leaving this place called Oz, there are 26 countries in the european community that you are able to try out and live in. These places could possibly have what you are searching for. That is now my aim.........culture, history, climate, and a whole heap of other stuff could just be on your doorstep...... Wishing everyone all the best for the future.......... Cheers Davethebear Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....................Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:biglaugh: The smile on my face is bigger than the flight home.........

    Working Hours

Hi everyone I'm hoping a couple of people may help satisfy a curiosity I have - I work quite long hours in the UK and am hoping it is not normal to work excessive hours in Australia. I work in the general remit of finance, currently as an internal auditor. Many thanks for any tips, advice or general words of wisdom! Kind regards Ed :wideeyed:

    457 - working hours?

  16. Hi all nurses Please can anyone help with my query, I was asked by AHPRA a few weeks ago to send some outstanding documents. They asked me for a full uni transcript staing the theory and clinical content/hours of my course Diploma HE adult nursing. I have sent all of this off and now have had an email from AHPRA today. Please see below. I am starting to get a bit annoyed with them now as I have sent them what they needed and now they are askling me this question? Has anyone else had this question asked? Im not sure how to answer it, can anyone help. Surely the transcript tells them the info they need? surely it is pretty obvious I am not going to have covered midwifery if I am an adult nurse? Thanks for any help on this, feeling stressed! Email from AHPRA Thank you for your application for registration as a registered nurse in Australia. I am in the process of assessing your documentation and would appreciate your confirmation that the following core competencies were included in your Dip HE course at the University of Plymouth: Theory units: Anatomy & Physiology Microbiology Pharmacology Medical/surgical nursing Statistics/Quality/research Mental Health Paediatrics and Obstetrics Community/Public Health Aged care Clinical units: Community/Public Health Mental Health/psychiatric Midwifery Could you please advise where in the course these components were covered.
  17. Hi - I hope someone is able to help on this forum so that my cousin can apply to OZ! She has started to look into the process of applying to OZ but works part time. Although she works for 22 hours per week -she is paid for 18 hours per week as her salary is annualised as she only works term time .(she effectively has a salary sacrifice for more annual leave) Would this be an issue as the current guidance on minumum working hours is 20 per week? for the work experience requirement. Any insight would be appreciated . Thanks

    Brisbane Office Hours

Hi We are visiting Brisbane in late March and checking out a few areas. Will probably post again about suburbs but the question of the day is: Anyone work in an office in Brisbane? I am a legal secretary and am wondering about flexible working hours. The reason I ask is that the sun sets quite early and I would ideally like to start earlier and leave earlier so that I can spend a few hours in the sun before it sets with my daughter/husband! I have googled but no luck with finding out what hours people work. Thanks
  20. My wife works 3 long days a week in the UK 12hr shifts, do hospitals etc offer similar working hours in Oz, it a shift pattern she enjoys as it gives her plenty of time with the kids still.

Our last 24 hours in the UK

Hi all This time tomorrow we will be on the plane on our way to oz for our new life. Its been a long three years and we have had some tears the last few days but generally we both have felt indiffent about the move, not excited, nervous, doubtful or sad. Cant explain it really. Its as if its meant to be. Lisa's parents are coming out with us for the first three months to see if they want to go for a CPV. We both have jobs to go to, Lisa has a nursing post at Nambour hospital and I start training as a Queensland police officer. We both start on the 31st January. The exchange rate is crap but we are not going for the money as we are going for a different (not better) life although we will be able to more outside so in that way it will be better. I will post more on here when we get there and are more settled. Off to bed. Its been a long week!:swoon: JOHN
  22. Holiday Closure 2010/2011 Friday 24 December Monday 27 December Tuesday 28 December Wednesday 29 December Friday 31 December Monday 3 January Tuesday 4 January Above notice is for Australian Passports Office but I assume it would be valid for majority of the Government departments in Australia.
  23. Woo hoo after nearly half a year I am due to be reunited with all my stuff that I thought was so important I was prepared to pay large sums of money to send it all the way around the world. Dont get me wrong I am looking forward to getting hold of my photos and some other personal bits and bobs but to be honest I wish I hadnt bothered with the rest, we could have bought it all cheaply enough here. Ah well as I have no intention of shipping stuff overseas again, I will just have to put it down to experience. Seriously though, its a bloomin good idea to really sit down and think about what you feel is an absolute necessity in your life, because I actually like this more minimalistic life :cute:

    working weird hours?

Anyone else do this? i'm currenly working on a cattle and crop station in the deep depths of nsw, sharing a house with 3 other lads and we have aprox 5000 acres of crops to harvest. I'm in the windrowing team which basically makes windrows of various grass seed crops for the headers to later come through and harvest, thing with windrowing os you can only do it in certain conditions or the crop loses seed. so basically i've been working weird hours like 2am - 1pm, 5am - 6pm, 10pm - 12pm how does anyone else get on with these kinda hours and weird sleeping patterns etc??
  25. G'day folks, My partner and I will be putting in our defacto application at the end of this year (the amount of advice on here is excellent, pats on the back all round!) in order to satisfy the 12 month living together stipulation. I arrived in australia on jan 1st of this year so need to hand our app in as close to the 31st as possible to meet the 12 months. I've looked all round the immi site for details but the opening hours over christmas are not on there. Possibly they may not have decided at this stage but does anyone remember what they were last year? We are worried about having to put the application in too early or even worse after jan 1st next year when my whv has expired which wouldnt look good at all! Any help much appreciated
