  1. The OH and I are getting busy planning our trip out to Oz next year and are hoping to treat ourselves to a 4 or 5 night stopover in Singapore along the way. We've looked at quite few hotels but two that tickle our fancy are the Pan Pacific and Conrad Centennial. Trip Advisor speaks pretty highly of these, I just wondered if any PIO members had any personal experiences with either - or if anyone had any other suggestions. Looks like there's plenty to see and do in 4 days but does anyone have any recommendations for things to do in Singapore whilst we're there that we might have missed? Also, taxis to and from the city - are they fairly easy and cheap to get or is there a better way (assuming our hotel doesn't have a transfer service)? Cheers all! The excitement's building now - I've just told my boss I'm off next year...

2011 Top 10 Hotels in Australia

Melbourne's Langham Hotel took out the top spot in the best Australian city hotels category for the third year in a row.
  3. Hi all Does anyone know of a reasonably priced hotel in the northern suburb area of Sydney. It must be in easy reach of the CBD and also accessible to Castle Hill/Baulkham Hills. We have to validate our Visa by October so was thinking of a Holiday in August. Whilst there I wanted to have a look around the Castle Hill area hence my need to be in the north. I don't want a really expensive hotel as I need to save as much money as possible for when we move permanently. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Lisa  OH Carpenter
  4. We moved from Sydney to Brisbane earlier this year and where stunned at the cost of hotels in the city, it seems way more than Sydney which really surprises me. After a couple of nights in a dump that cost $180 pn we stayed on the Giold Coast while house hunting, which was way better value (although off season). I had to go to a work function the other week and stay in town, again it was a horrible hotel for about $150 pn. What's the reason? Housing is much cheaper up here but hotels & parking are crazy, is it down to demand from the mining firms? If anyone's thinking of temp accommodation in or near the city I advise lots of research up front!

    Melbourne Hotels

Hello Does anyone have recommendations for hotels/lodges near Melbourne airport. We need to book a room for our first nights stay before visiting the dog in quarantine. Any suggestions would be great Thanks :jiggy:
  8. Hi All We're looking at accommodation for our trip in July and would be really grateful if anyone can recommend a good, reasonably priced hotel, or apartment, or B&B in either the CBD or SE Melbourne (e.g. Mornington Peninsula) area? We're over for 7 days (not long we know!). We've found apartment rentals but they're really expensive (Stayz.com.au brings up tiny studios in St Kilda!). A google search for B&Bs seems to turn up more apartments rather than the English type B&B which is essentially just a room with friendly owners! Anyway, we hoped that maybe somebody could recommend somewhere that their relatives have stayed in when visiting, or perhaps somewhere that you've stayed whilst doing a recce of Melbourne? Thanks
  9. If you need to book a hotel for your medicals due to the long distance use Travelodge. They are currently running an offer for an extra £15 off the room price if you book online. We have had our medicals today in Birmingham and used the Perry Barr Travelodge the night before our medical and with the discount it was only £24.95 for the night and was only 10mins away from the medical centre (and a nice 2for1 pub 2 mins walk away:jiggy:). The offer is running for the next few weeks! The medicals are expensive enough without petrol/hotel/food prices. Hope some of you can save a few more pennies x Discount code - HJ53006G
  10. Ive only been to London once for a show so im not clued up on the area at all  Does anyone know a place we can book in between London centre and the College? We are making a weekend of it and i wanted to go into London for the day but not be too far from the college. Ive looked at Brent Cross and Wembley but they are quite a hike if the trains are down etc, although they are close to the college. Any help would be appreciated so i dont end up in Devon or something lol  Mandi x

  12. When on a reccie, would you suggest that we: 1/ Rent a Camper & tour areas? 2/ Rent a car & stay in hotels? I personally think the camper van would suit us better, but is it an easy option? Do you need to stay in certain areas? Are there other cons to it? Look forward to hearing your ideas  Thankyou

  14. Hey Everyone, The missus and myself have finally got the 457 Visas and she starts her new job in May....can't wait to get out there at last! I was just wondering (as everyone does) about locations around the Greenslopes area? We were thinking of looking at renting near where the missus got her job in Greenslopes for the first 6 months or so to get an idea of where to move to after that but was wondering what everyone else done when arriving? I'm going to look for a hotel or something for the first couple of weeks until we find something but if anyone knows or can recommend a hotel or estate agent, then please do let me know. Thanks everyone. Stephen and Emma
  15. G'day. I'm planning a little trip from Sydney to Coffs harbour in May and was wondering if anyone can recommend some hotels/motels along the route. Thanks for any help. Chidge.

    How long in hotels:)

Me and my OH are going to Oz in Jan 2010. I have been looking at a one months rental and have found one for just over £1,000. But I was wondering how long other peeps have stayed in self catering accommadation, hotels and motels. Is it better just renting for two weeks then finding permanenet rentals in that time period, can it be done that quick. Looking at south Brisbane area need to book asap:) Cheers Brig x
  17. It is well known that humour is regional, but this is the first joke that I can say is truly South Aussie: At a national conference of the Australian Hotels Association, the generalmanagers of Cascade Brewery (Tasmania), Tooheys (New South Wales), XXXX (Queensland), CUB (Victoria) and Coopers (South Australia) found themselves sitting at the same table for lunch. When the waitress asked what they wantedto drink, the GM of Tooheys said without hesitation, "I'll have a TooheysNew." The head of XXXX smiled and said, “Make mine a XXXX Gold." To which the General Manager of Carlton & United, said "I'll have a VB, the King of Beers." And the bloke from Cascade asked for"a Cascade, the cleanest draught on the planet." The owner of Coopers paused a moment and then placed his order: "I'll have a Diet Coke." Theothers looked at him has if he had sprouted a new head. "Well,” he said with a shrug, “if you poofters aren't drinking beer, then neither will I." :twitcy:

Getting a bit desperate on the timescale now! Can't believe what they want to charge through an agent. It's 2 adults and 2 children 12and 10. Might just take a tent and tell the kids it's a character building excercise involving outdoor activities!!!! Don't think the wife would go for it either ! Any info would be appreciated. thanks in advance Kev

    Singapore Hotels

Hi all Soon to do a 3 night stopover in Singapore and was looking at either the Miramar or the Furama riverfront. Both seem pretty average, good prices, good location, not exactly 5 star luxury but then I am hoping not too crappy either.:skeptical: Anyone any experience - good or bad- of these hotels. Thanks S X
