  1. We've got our quotes here from John Mason, PSS and Anglo Pacific. In the very samll print they all provide a list of exclusions, which range from : Container Decontamination Local Duties Inspections Local Taxes Sums due to government departments Container detention fees Demurrage Quay Rent Cargo Dues Provision of hoist or lifting equipment Quarantine I know that we have to pay for the AQUIS inspection which was quoted at 250 AUD per 30 mins, but what about these other exclusions. Did anyone get hit with anything above and beyond what they were quoted ?
  2. We recently move from the UK to Australia. As part of the move we received 3 quotes from shipping agencies. Unfortunately we chose the one that was initially the cheapest. Unfortunately the hidden costs made it far more expensive> They have refused to accept that the costs aded on at a later date were unreasonable and that there were definitely not mentioned in any Terms we received prior. The way they have handled the process has left a distinct bad taste in our mouth. Coupled with this were numerous breakages which they have failed to acknowledge despite their "partners" in Oz making note of this on delivery. Overall their customer service has been unbeleivably poor and in hindsight the other quotes, initially marginally dearer, would have been the better deal. I would avoid this company at all costs for cost an customer service. Please PM me for details if you so wish. Other friends and colleagues have had positive results with PSS
  3. Hi guys, My hubby has received his offer letter this weekend woo hoo (we are a family of 4 and heading for Western Sydney)...... I have already done alot of research into costs and stuff, but am just wondering if anyone out there has an answer for me to any hidden costs that I have missed. But most importantly does anyone know what costs we would be looking at for the connect of utilities for: Water Electricity Gas Phone Internet Costs I have found so far are per month (are these OK?) I know car, rent, etc getting as part of package so doesn't really come into things at this stage. Phone & Internet 200.00 Mobile 50.00 Housekeeping 1,000.00 Electricity 200.00 Fuel - Oil or Gas 115.00 Home ins 30.00 Water 60.00 School Stuff 170.00 I am hoping i have over budgeted for Life Cover 200.00 I am hoping i have over budgeted for Other Transporatation 100.00 We have to get back to them to accept (hopefully) very soon as start day is only a few months away.... Argh scary.... Thanks so much in advance on any replies.......

  6. Hi All, I keep reading about "The Hidden Job Market" and that it is the best way to find a job in OZ whether you are looking for sponsorship or any visa. Is there such a thing, if so where the hell is it?! Or is something that people just make up so they can sell you a dodgy pdf document that someone has knocked up themselves? If there is such a thing then yes, it is very well hidden but of no use of no one can find it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Craig
  7. We've had a few shippers in now, and Robinson's are looking the cheapest but we don't necessarily want to choose on cost alone. Has anyone used Robinson... What you're experience? Also, I've read on all the quotes we've had that these do not include any customs charges at Oz. What is this for? How much can we expect to have to pay as hidden costs on top of the shipping? Also, I've been looking at options for shipping some excess bags via air to get their quicker. (work clothes mainly). I reckon 3-4 standard tea chests. I've had prices ranges from £300-£900. Anyone got any recommendations on this front? thanks in advance. Andy

    Hidden Valley??

I have been looking for places to live that are within easy commute to St Kilda Road, which is close to Melbourne CBD. I have found some lovely houses in Hidden Valley which is north of CBD. 1 hour Commute which is ok. Does anyone know anything about Hidden Valley? I have 3 kids aged 15, 13 and 10 and I need to ensure that there are schools close by and that it is also a nice area to live. I have tried looking on Google but it doesn’t show much information. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  9. Hello! I'm just going through the process of having the shipping companies round the house to carry out surveys, seen Pickfords and John Masons so far. Can anyone please advise as to what hidden extras there are to look out for? Have you negotiated these hidden extras in your quote as a dealbreaker? Many thanks in advance for your replies! Laulau:biggrin:

    Hidden consequences?

Hi all, I was wondering about hidden consequences of emmigration? Leaving the uk for say 5 years And then returning would leave a large blank in your uk credit history, do you have to rebuild it from scratch upon return? How do uk lenders view you after a Long spell abroad? Are you generally considered a higher risk having gained the ability to move countries at short noticevince gaining PR / Citizenship? Is there anything you can do to ensure the above remain in tact like managing a small uk bank account/renting your property out to keep a decent credit rating? Are there any other hidden consequences? I'd be very interested to hear first hand experiences please? Be excellent to each other  steve.

    Hidden Unemployment

Hidden Unemployment - The official unemployment rate just released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) for September was 5.7 per cent. It was viewed by those in the government with great optimism of how Australia is resisting the Global Financial Crisis (GFC), however, is that unemployment rate a true indication of the level of unemployment, or indeed an accurate reflection on the actual state of the labour market in Australia? No it is not not....according to comments with this article online

    For agents - hidden rulls???

Please i need advice from agents about this email: "I am an agent specialising in Skilled Migration. DIAC case officers have told us directly that the 12 months work experience is only valid after a person is deemed skilled. You are not deemed skilled by ACS until you have a degree (major in IT) plus 4 years WE; degree (minor in IT) plus 6 years experience; Diploma (IT) plus 6 years experience; or Eight year WE without formal qualification. You may check the ACS website for this. This is the case for several occuaptions. For example, a Research and Development Manager is not deemed skilled until he/she has a degree plus 5 years work experience. This comes from the ASCO, and DIAC follows the ASCO (changing to ANZSCO this year). DIAC only count work experience after you are deemed skilled. This is not set out on their website or in the regulations. However it is set out in their policy (Procedures Advice Manual). In any cases like this it is very wise to seek the assistance of an expert as it is very easy to get it wrong." Is this really true or just want to get money? When i asked Vetassess about this they told me that ASRI is used for other purposes not just migration. Therefore, i got positive assessment for R&D Manager, but now i realized that i could been refused from DIAC because i do not have 5 yrs relevant work experience?!
  13. I am a consultant in the WA Trade Contractor Industry. I have just rewritten an ebook, splitted into a 5-part series, on "5-steps on how to sell (smarter) through others in the Trade Contractors Industry" The point is that this may also be applicable to those who want to find a job in the hidden job market. You can download a summary at: PERTH BUSINESS CONSULTANTS - Home The content: 1.Introduction 2.Our intent and our intended readers 3.The sales process in 5-steps: Partner Relationships 3.1.Lead Generation – working through entities of influence 3.1.1.Lead generation – ad hoc hosting 3.1.2.Lead generation – strategic alliances 3.1.3.Lead generation – endorsement by host 3.1.4.Lead generation – referrals 3.2.How to reach those entities of influence 3.3.Why will entities of influence help you? 3.4.Lead generation – finding the invisible market 4.Your first contact 4.1.Your selling Purpose. 4.2.Action Plan 4.3.Outline reasons for your call 4.4.Agreement 5.Your appointment 5.1.Uncovering the real needs 6.Smart selling – Partner Relationship 7.Your selling behavioural style 8.Finally - what gets you the sale? 9.Conversion from leads to prospects to customers 10.Moving towards a Partner Relationship 11.Conclusion APPENDIX A - Next Meeting Planner APPENDIX B – The Octagon Behavioural questionnaire and self score I believe that the concept of identifying "entities of influence" for your job market may be very applicable - although seen from an employer's side. This is based on the work I have published for migrants to WA here: Perth Business Services - Home Trust that it helps!

    Hidden Extras In House Buying?????

This is basically for all those of you who are lucky enough to be out there already. Once we are out there and have rented a place for a while we would like to buy a plot and build our house. Apart from the cost of the housebuild, what other costs are involved. i.e in the UK we have the Stamp Duty, Home Info Packs, etc etc. Is the First Home Owners Grant for anyone for evermore or is it likely to be pulled. Also what are your interest rates like? Have they gone up or down recently and has the rest of the worlds credit crunch affected the Oz economy at all?? Sorry for the questions folks, we are trying to get a handle on what our life would be like out there. Jo x

    hidden costs

Hello everyone, Are there any hidden costs/ bonds/ deposits that need to be paid when in Aus. I am not talking about anything to do with the visa process, or a bond for a rented house. We are taking £30,000.00 with us which will be aprox $60k. And i want to make sure i have covered every cost in our budget. There are mum, dad, and 2 young kids comming out. We are not arranging jobs or job interviews untill we get out there as we do not know an exact area we will be living in. Any advice greatly apreciated Chris
