  1. When we put in our visa application at the end of May we resigned ourselves to the fact that it coud take 18 months to 2 years to see any progress. So we got a bit of a scare last Tuesday when we got an e-mail asking for our medicals and police checks in the next 28 days. Lots of OMG and SH**, this is all getting a bit real and scary and a lot sooner that we had anticipated or planned for. So Police check applications have been sent off and we had our medicals last night - very impressed with the process and service at Spire Hospital in Manchester who only started doing these medicals in October. So now we are waiting again, but with the realisation that if there are no problems we could be taking a trip to Oz by the end of next year to validate our visas - so now for some frantic saving to pay for the flights and accommodation so we can at least make it feel like a holiday/chance to see places when we get there. its finally happening

well after years of deliberating the move is on, the visas were granted june, the house officially went up for sale today, got a viewing tomorrow, hubby had interview with a recruitment agency yesterday so hopefully all is looking good. my mom passed away 3 weeks ago, i was having a dilemma about telling her that we "were" going due to her initial reaction when we just mentioned we were thinking of it so i never did tell her. my dad said that she felt so guilty for not letting me go and that she really did understand why we wanted this but just couldnt bare it, he also said it was a great opportunity and to go as soon as possible with his blessing, which took such a feeling of guilt off me. he will be selling his house too and is going to live on their narrowboat cruising the canals.. hubby has given his resignation date to his boss (1st march 2012) for us to hopefully fly out to perth mid-late march at the latest  just keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well with the house !!!

    Its all happening again?

to cut a long story short i left for SA 2 years ago and got dumped by my GF at the time by MSN so came back as i couldnt find work and was dipressed. Now i have just been offered a great job in SA and have asked my GF to come i have kept her in the loop the whole time and am waiting for her decision wether or not she will come with me as we have been together for about 18 months now and lived together for 12 months. What scares me is if she says no what will i do.. Do i go on my own and leave her behind? or do i stay and try to make it in the U.K which at the minute is very hard (my heart is in australia). I have untill tuesday to accept the job and need answer from my GF. Has anyone else had a similar situation??

House up for Auction - it's happening!

Well we have put the house up for Auction today, luckily the real estate agent thinks we should get a decent price for it and we should make some money from the house. But havng made the major step and decision I feel nervous as hell, far more so than when we sold up to come out here. Even though I know I have been unhappy for most of our time here and can't wait to get back home and build our lives there I feel like Im double guessing myself and just hope it's the right decision, is this normal did anyone else who was so so sure about going home get really nervous??
  7. The shippers are finally coming Wednesday and its all happening. Any tips for the day they come?:jiggy:

    Nothing is happening!!!

Evening all, We had our medicals at the beginning of December and they were sent on the 15th to Australia. They were recieved by aus immigration first week in January but since then nothing has happened. Is this normal as we expected to get an email or something from them with regards to our visas. The thing is as you only get a year to validate from the date of your medical we have already eaten into that by nearly two months  with still no sign of the golden tickets , is their anyway you can get the validation time extended if they are held up there end and their is no fault attached to us ? Thankyou in advance for any answers.
  9. We are a couple of kilos over with our luggages  Our boxes have been shipped a few weeks ago and we didn't realize we had left so many things behind! So, we had to remove many things from our luggage and were a bit stressed about it... So today we were at a restaurant and met an old friend of mine. Guess what? He works with the airline we are going to fly with next Wednesday and he will be the check in guy!! "No worries mate", he said. "Just get your luggages, as many as you want, but don't overload them" :cute: So, problem solved. No more stress. I hadn't met this guy for ages! Destiny....do we make it happen or does it come to us? At times, I am persistent with my goals, determined, do research, plan, network...and it seems that I make my own destiny. At times I feel it comes it me. Either? Or? Combination of both? What's your say? Cheers B!K3R
  10. OMG stressed - trying to sell the house. We don't have a visa yet so not a real rush but have had no interest in the house at all and would like to get it sold and move in to rented asap before the australia move. We bought the house 3 years ago so still loads of mortgage to pay off. Being optomistic we originally put the house on at the same price we paid (as we got a 10%discount at the time off the housebuilder - so this took into account the drop in house prices) but not a sniff of interest for 3/4 months so we dropped the price and still nothing!! - Not a single viewing in 5 months!!! Spoke to the estate agent and we only match 3 buyers on the database and no joy from any of them. They said this is the worst housing maket they have seen in 30years of business. House prices have dropped another 4% this month!!! We can't afford to drop our price any more as we wouldn't be able to clear the mortgage when it sells. Just don't know what to do... We can't rent it as we have to bring in 120% of mortgage repayment in montly rental income for the mortgage company to agree (and for our own piece of mind) but monthly rental income would be below our repayment (and thats not including agency fees.) We can't remortgage to interest only or anything because we would need a deposit or equity and we want our cash to help us with the move... and we wouldn't have enough to do both. People are starting to say well maybe its just not the right time for you to move to Australia.... but I can't give up on it that easily. Although short of going bankrupt we are fast running out of options. Sorry just wanted to vent on here.... any millionaires out there want to help me out. Lol!

    It's happening at last!!

Yes...at last I am finally leaving for a new start in Australia! Booked flight for 5th Feb! I never thought this day would come as like many on here we have struggled for 3 years to get to this point. We did not have any skills and thought there would be no way of us ever being able to live down under! Had it not been for my family being so supportive and not giving up we would not now be in this fortunate position. It has being draining emotionally as well as financially but we are hopefull that it will be worth it and if not then we just put it down to experience. PIO has been a fantastic source of information and I have turned to the users on many occassions to seek not just information but advice too and have never been let down. I have also been fortunate enough to strike up some friendships and I look forawrd to one day meeting them so that I can put a face to all the messages! To those who are struggling with the process and are thinking that it will never happen " Never say never" Thanks for each and every post that has made this journey a lot less daunting and a lot more fun! :notworthy: Good Luck to all! Emma xx

  15. Its the 1st of July and nothing from DIAC surprize surprize. Firstly the date has been moved from end of April to now and still nothing. They are taking all our application money but giving us nothing in return. What the hell is happening. SMP my arse. Its killing me this whole process.
  16. Whats happening to the exchange rate $1.73AUD to the £1. Why is it getting so bad?? Will it continue to go down or back up in the near future?? I what to transfer money over to Oz in the next couple of week but this is the lowest rates I have seen.
  17. I suppose today is the day that our relocation to Brisbane really gets going. We had our shippers in today (Crown Relocation) and I'm now sat on the sofa surrounded by boxes and boxes of furniture and possessions. It's actually a little depressing that all of our furniture (which we thought of as being considerable) will all fit into one room! Day 2 of the packing tomorrow will see it loaded into the container and on its merry way to Brisbane. :err: It's at this point that I begin to wonder if we're crazy for doing this! Not only has the enormity of what we're about to do finally hit me, but it's also finally hit our family as well. The In-Laws are convinced that we're doing this for our own selfish reasons and not for our two young children (in their words, not mine) and my dad refuses to talk about it. He's absolutely fine when you talk to him, but he refuses point blank to talk about our emigration at all - in fact he snaps at or ignores the person who has broached the subject. And this is after 12 months of planning, applying for visa's, selling the house etc etc etc. I know it's hard for everyone concerned, but this kind of reaction makes it so much harder for us and, more importantly, our children. Anyways....it feels like we've finally taken our first steps on the emigration highway that has been much travelled! Roll on the 27th July when we fly!

  20. Sue (Yuills) informed me this afternoon that her newly born baby Jake has passed away at home a few days ago. Sue has asked me to convey this message to you all. I am sure fellow members will be able to give Sue and her family over in Perth a lot of comfort and support during something that no parent should go through. Sue I know you are watching and I feel absolute desolate for you and the family:hug: I wish you the strength and fortitude in the following weeks and months to come ... love Susie xx Bereavement Support | Sids and Kids
  21. Hi everyone, I am at the end of my tether now. I arrived in NZ a few days ago and to be honest have no idea why I came. I am staying in a really expensive hotel, all I could get over easter and looked around auckland and am thinking what the hell have I done. Some of you may know that I left Sydney to move back to London after a load of things happened there but hated it and thought OK try NZ but I really miss australia and cant help it. I am so scared of what is going to happen now as in my heart I want to go back to australia and try brisbane but I am seriously running out of money now and this will be my last chance to top it off I got a conviction for something that should not of happened and dont want to declare it at the airport in case they turn me away, does anyone know whether the conviction comes up as soon as you enter australia or not I want to get to brisbane asap I cant stand it here to be honest it is nothing like what I thought it would be. Sorry for going on but am really upset now and just need to find a home again and I feel like I have got nothing any more. Thanks for listening

    What's happening to my medical?

Hi all, Had both our medicals couriered to Sydeny last week. I've trackes them on DHL and knwo that they arrived and were signed for last Friday 12/3/10. This I thought was great news as both medicals were ok hence I thought they would show as received, then change to finalised a few days later and before too long, my CO would give me the golden ticket! This unfortunately hasn't happened as of yet. When checking my visa status online, there is no difference at all. The medicals still appear as 'required' and there is no information to say that they have been received or processed etc. Previous posters have said how quickly their medicals are being processed so I was just a little dissapointed to not have any status updates. Any recent experiences or advice? Should I chase this up? Thanks, Dean
  23. Hi Everyone, Just an update from us in regards to visa's being granted. We are on a GSM 176 State Sponsored to Adelaide and were like many others given the news in September that despite having medicals and police checks finalised we were not going to be processed until 2012 (this news arrived via e-mail from our CO and in a letter from immigration). Jan 14th having put everything on the back burner and having just come back from a holiday we arrived home to an e-mail saying our visa has been granted! Wow what an emotional rollercoaster this has been, now we have to enter by August. So it looks like people who had finalised their PC and Medicals may be on their way to being processed.....so dont book that expensive summer holiday just yet. Good luck to every one in the same position, I hope your news is positive to.
  24. Happy New Year to everyone on PIO. It is great to see 2010 starting with so many visa grants. I have noticed that these are all offshore visa applications. Does anyone know what is happening with 886 onshore applications. We are currently on a Bridging Visa in Oz and applied for an 886 in July 09 and got our state sponsorship Dec 09. We also have our police checks and meds. Any ideas when we would expect to hear anything. Any help is greatly appreciated. Jo
  25. Merry Christmas to all on PIO!!! With all the doom and gloom at the mo, and what we have all been going through as well, which I have too have written about, I thought that it would be nice to write a christmas thread to see what everyone is up to over the festive season?? Christmas cheer!!! :goofy: Hopefully hoping that this is our last Christmas in the UK, we have been making the most of the snow we have had! My husband cannot get to work, so we have been enjoying some quality family time together, which we very rarely have. Yesturday we decided to wrap up, get the wellies out and go for a walk into our local village. What strange weather............. it reminded me of that film the day after tomorrow!!! It was snowing, then thundering?????, then hailing and the kids were saying 'we don't like snow it hurts!!'. Then snowing again! Then a rainbow came out and it was sunny. STRANGE!! :wideeyed: We had great fun in the park, and built a snowman in the garden. We took lots of pics to remind us when we get to OZ of our snowy hopefully last Christmas here! My Oh cannot get to work today either, there is no point in trying to risk even getting the van off the drive, so hopefully another family day together! What is everyone up to?
