  1. Please could someone give me links to the best places to buy 2nd hand cars in WA :wubclub:
  2. Hi everyone, I'm new here, but found lots of good info around so thought I'd join to post a few Q's of my own, hoping someone can help I'm going to Sydney for work between Sept > Feb, and was hoping to pick up a small second hand car for my time there to sell before leaving. From what I've read up so far, it sounds like if I buy a car with plenty of Rego to run then this will give me very basic third party insurance(?) and make it a bit easier to sell on if it still has some time to run? Other than the fee to change the car to my ownership, and the existing finance check, would there be any other fees to pay? and would I need additional insurance? I'd just be using it locally for commute to work really. Thanks in advance for any help/replies Viki

  6. Well I'm just in the process of trying to work out what to take on the flight and what to ship but just wanted a bit of help about the sizes of bags allowed. I'm flying with Singapore airlines so get my normal baggage (unfortunately as I'm an oz citizen returning home I dont' think I get the extra), my 7kg hand luggage and a handbag. But what size handbag do they allow? I've got big ones but don't want to take one of those full of stuff only to have them tell me I've got too much. Any ideas? ALso I've got my little boy flying with us so although he doesn't get hand luggage I can take nappies etc for him, anyone know roughly what size they will allow of that too? Thanks so much x

    PiO Helping Hand Thread

Having just arrived I've been so grateful for the help and advice I have recieved from other PiO members. It got me thinking - alot of us come over with just a few suitcases. I'm sure we don't want to be spending our precious bucks on replacing items we already have whilst we patiently wait for our 'stuff' to arrive. So, could we set up a cyber library in the form of a thread for bits and pieces we could loan out, short term, to newly arrived members such as air beds, bedding, pots and pans, crockery, cutlery etc? I'm not sure how it would work in practice maybe a PiO Loan thread - members could post what they have and where they are then members needing to borrow items could email/PM to see if it was available. A bit like Freecycle but not for keeps! Anyway just a thought:wubclub:

  14. Hi all, just a quick question- i need to supply further evidence for my partner visa and i want to get it done asap. my CO emailed and said the best way is to mail it in, but even with express post it'll get there friday (sending it thursday because partner's employer is away until then), then the long weekend, and by the time it gets out of the mail room and to the relevent department it'll be all up a week. Would it be quicker if i just handed it in person? my friend went and saw a migration agent not too long ago and the agent says that she hands them in person it just that immi wants more people to post it so they say only to post it in by mail. Anyone else reacently handed in evidence in person at sydney?:mask:
  15. Hope this is the right place to post this?? We are needing to buy a car as son was the meat in a car +car+van prang last week and they have written off his car - he was not hurt luckily - the result of people not able to cope with rain and no braking space !! he stopped the van didn't and pushed him into the car in front. We are not looking for anything fancy or pretty just a reliable car to get to and from work in. looking to spend $4000 - $6000 ish Buying cars can be a bit hit and miss in any country but it seems harder over here somehow and we would prefer to go somewhere recomended We are in the Western suburbs - son lives in Essendon, we are in Deer Park but we are prepared to drive further any help very much appreciated Karen

  18. Hi PIO I'm trying to find out what my options are regarding shipping over the tools that I need in my job. I'm an electrician, so have numerous hand tools & power tools which are extremely heavy when all put together. I'm trying to find out if it's worth shipping these in the container along with all our other stuff, or buying new ones on arrival in Oz? This could turn out to be rather expensive, but I'm not sure how to time it all with shipping the stuff over, and then possibly having to wait....not being able to work.....until the container arrived with my tools?? Has anyone else found a solution to this? Is it possible to send HEAVY parcels another way? (Surface mail/Royal Mail to a friend's address, possibly?) Any info greatly appreciated. Many thanks! 19. Hi All I've been really lucky as I've spent most of my life in Australia so coming back was no real stress for me, found a house, found furniture, found everything I need to get moving in our new life. But since Tracy has been here she has really struggled to find her way around. Maps and sat navs are great but only if you know where you want to go. So this got me thinking, how on earth do people find things when they have no idea where things are? No wonder so many people feel Australia is expensive, no wonder so many people feel lost and alone, so what I'd like to do is offer anyone who is new to the area (Point Cook, Werribee, Hoppers Crossing etc) a hand in finding their way around. Just let me know where your stuck and what you're looking for and I'll try to help as best as I can. Even if it's only for a chat and play date with the kids I'm sure Tracy would enjoy meeting new people. Anyway it's a free service I'm not after money, and I can't promise to find everything your after all I can do is try and point you in the right areas making your new start less traumatic! Just send me a PM and I'll give you my home number Cheers Geoffrey

    Second Hand cars in Canberra

Need to get a car but we're on a tight budget. Can anyone recommend a good second hand car dealer in Canberra or perhaps which places to avoid? Please feel free to send a private message if you can be more honest that way! Thanks
  21. Hi everyone, My car engine is on it's way out, I can either buy another engine for it which I can get pretty cheap and have fitted cheap to keep it going, then just get rid before I leave for oz. Or I been looking at buying a second hand car and then shipping it over. I'm not sure if it's worth spending the money on shipping, or worth saving the money on shipping and buying a new car, and just using that to buy a second hand car in oz??? My partner also has a car so I think we would be looking to ship one anyway, so it it worth paying extra and getting a container to ship both? With what I read about such high prices in oz for 2nd hand cars I'm think it will be worth it for me to upgrade mine and ship it as well. Does anyone know how much a container would cost and any duty to ship 2 cars? So much stuff to think about!! :arghh: Thanks all:hug:

Im sure I heard a rumor that you can carry one aditionally to your hand luggage. Is this the case? I really hope its true as I have too many gadgets I need to carry and 7kg wont go very far.
