Hello Hills District PIOers!! This Saturday, 19th May, Jetts Gym in Castle Hill will be holding an Open Heart Day from 9 am to 4pm. This is a fund raising event in association with the Heart Foundation, the club will waive their $99 joining fee and donate $10 for every person who joins:yes: On the day a 100K km treadmill event will be taking place, several participants have already raised considerable funds in donations! There will also be a bouncy castle, face painting and a delicious cake stall with Heart Healthy cakes and other delights.:em3600: Myself and a few other PIOers will be there supporting the event, and also fund raising for our own Charity Aaron's Next Steps. Aaron is a 15 year old boy with Cerebral Palsy who needs a spinal operation to help him walk again. We are trying to raise $60,000 by December to help pay for his operation which will be taking place in St. Louis. Aaron and his family moved to Sydney from Ireland 2 years ago and are part of the PIO Community. Please come along and support us on the day, take advantage of the gym membership offer or just have a chat to us and buy a cake! The address is: Jetts Castle Hill Shop 12, 7-13 Victoria Avenue, Castle Hill T. 8850 1893 E. castlehill@jetts.com.au

Training partner(s) wanted - North Sydney, Leichhardt or CBD
Guest posted a topic in Socialising Hobbies Clubs Sport
Hi, Once upon a time I was young & fit and ran marathons and had friends (Aussies) I ran with. Now I'm less young (60 to be precise), have various injuries that restrict me to a couple of kilometers on a treadmill (at the moment) and my running mates have moved away or given up. I still train regularly - swimming in summer, weights and cycling in winter and some running - but the lure of my warm bed early in the morning in winter means I often don't exercise as much as I'd like to. It would be great to have one or more training partners to motivate me (i.e. get me up early) and help each other - better still if they were Poms so we could talk about intellectual things like football, pubs and beer. Age and sex are irrelevent, but it would be good if we had similar levels of fitness and some goals to aim at. Mine are to run 7km again in a reasonable time (say 32 minutes), to do the Sydney to Woolongong bike ride in November, do lots of ocean swims next season (but I don't swim until September because I'm too much of a wimp to swim when it's cold outside) and lose some of the 18 kilos I've put on since my last marathon (in 1987, so not exactly recent). I train before work in the mornings and live in Leichhardt, work in North Sydney and I'm a member of North Sydney pool/gym so the inner west, CBD or North Sydney are convenient locations. Personal info; work as a consultant, (i.e. irregularly), been here 32 years, born Hartlepool, support Swindon Town as well as Hartlepool United (I go for the glamour clubs), been back to the UK lots on business & hols, happily married. And yes, it can be hard to make friends here - I still find I have more in common (particularly humour) with Poms. Cheers, Steve Hall -
Hello All I am not training as often as I should and starting to loose shape after 3 months of not training and because I am out drinking too much been new in town etc. Don't as such need anyone to push me just a someone to workout with, knowing I have a routine then I am likely to stick to it. I am 32, Male, Straight (don't laugh every guy iv spoken too in the Gym thinks Err or Ohh as I start a conversation) happy to workout with male or female and any fitness level. I am a Fitness First member and can use any Gym. PS I am not a gym nut just staying healthy and Morning or Evening but Mornings work better with work and socialising etc. Thanks Alex

Hi all, Couldn't post this in the job section for some reason! I'm moving over this year from the UK on a 417 Working Holiday visa, and have been looking for work at gyms around the country. I've applied for many gym/fitness instructor jobs, but they are geared more towards permanent residents/citizens. I have experience in the fitness industry, and also in retail and admin, so know a lot about people and what makes them tick! I thrive on a good challenge and love to seize the moment. If there are jobs that people know of that aren't in fitness, etc. it doesn't matter. Just want to be in Oz! I have no preference on where to be in the country either! If you'd like to see my CV and find out more, then please email me at: hugrd9@o2.co.uk Look forward to hearing from you :-) Matt Hunt, Kent, UK

Hi Does anyone know of any gyms or sporting facilities in Colac? Maybe any cycling clubs?

To join the police I need to be able to run 2.4 km in 12 minutes 15 seconds. So..... at what speed do I set the running machine at the gym? It's Friday night and my brain is tired and I can't work it out. Maybe a beer would help? Also, the kids who join need to run the 2.4 in 10 minutes 15. What speed do they need to run at? Am I right for 12kmh and 14 kmph respectively? I tried to run at 14 kmph and nearly died after 5 minutes.

Anyone know of any good gyms in the Buderim area / sunshine coast?

For picking up three samples for dove shower gel instead of one. Unbelievable they actually told me to put the other two back. Not sure I will go back there if they are that tight for some stupid samples.

Dear all, Seems a little trivial I know but... What sort of facilities do they have in Australia in terms of Gym's etc. I am a obsesive Bodybuilder and spend a lot of my spare time sweating, grunting and strutting my stuff in the local gym. Will I end up driving for hours just for my daily workout ? As the Aussies are such outdoor types, do they have the same attitide towards the gym (obviously they are enthusiastic sports men/women) ? I couldn't cope emigrating and not being able to spend a couple of hours a day to myself in the tranquility of the gym.
