    School in Glen Iris Melbourne

Hi - Our daughter is currently in Year 6 in the UK and is due to finish prep school in July moving on to a selective grammar school here in the UK in September. My husband has Oz citezenship and we are considering relocating to Melbourne in September, I figure from looking at term dates our daughter will actually start school in term 4 of year 6 (she is 11 will be 12 in November). With this in mind we are looking for either selective or private schools that take from Year 6 or pre year 6 through to year 12 so she will not be at one school for a term and then have to move on to senior school. We would be looking for a school in Glen Iris or surrounding suburbs any advise or reccomendations would be greatly appreciated. Also doing some research we have found that the selction process in Oz tends to be at 13+ rather than 11+, is this the case or are there any 11+ selective schools? Thank you AC

  4. Hi, We are moving to Glen Waverley next week after a stressful few weeks trying to secure a rental. Originally we were going to settle in Berwick, but after doing the commute into the CBD for a few weeks, we've decided it's too far out for us. I'm hoping that someone can give me some advice on good places locally to buy fresh meat, fruit and veg, as the supermarket prices are killing us! Also, are there any farmers markets in the area? We have two girls aged 12 & 9 and would love to meet up with people living locally. Victoria :wubclub:
  5. Can anyone tell me anything about Mahogany Creek, Glen Forrest and/or Darlington? what it is like there, how long it takes to get into CBD in Perth, the schools etc. Many thanks Sue
  6. I'm a builder from Hertfordshire with a six-month-old son and am looking for other dads to have a few beers and a game of pool with from time to time. Why should the mums have all the social life?? Most of the lads I work with are younger and I'm too old (37!!) to go out drinking all night with them, but not too old to be wearing slippers and drinking Horlicks... If anyone wants to meet up or knows of any existing meet ups, please get in touch. Cheers martin
  7. Hey Guys! We're quite new to PIO and we are finding it very informative and useful as we're leaving for Melbourne on Jan 5th. Me, my OH and our son (21 months) take the plunge in 6 weeks. My OH's visa is approved (457), flights booked and house rented, yes i said house rented!! We've found a great house in Glen Waverley and my OH has managed to get everything sorted from this side of the world! A massive weight of our minds. He will be working the CBD for a recruitment company, he's transfered from the UK office to Melbourne with no problems and even though myself and our son have Australian citizenship, he decided the 457 would be financially benefical. I have a lot of family out in Melbourne, but we would love to meet people in similar circumstances and if anyone knows of good baby drop in clubs in the area then please get in touch. We are in our early 30's and enjoy socialising, this is one thing we're going to miss from the UK!!! So if there's any blokes out there who fancy "chewing the fat" over a few beers or any girls who fancy a girlie night out, then again get in touch!!!!

    Ferntree Gully or Glen Waverley?

Hi all knowledgable people, just a quick dilema that perhaps someone could help us with. We are hoping to move to oz late next year when school finishes for summer, and we are not sure whether to go for Ferntree gully in the city of Knox OR Glen Waverley in the city of Monash. The later would be good as eldest son wishes to become a policeman and with the training centre being there would seem a more logical answer but we also like Ferntree Gully, not too far from most things including training centre. My question is really does anyone know what these areas are really like. We've read everything possible to do with these areas but would like more local knowledge/experience. Does anyone know of someone who lives or works there or would possibly become a penpal ???? Also OH is a 'General Plumber' is there any work for him there? Any suggestions gratefully received.:notworthy: Cheers, The Terry's.

    Glen Waverley

Hi everyone Does anyone have any info on Glen Waverley, an eastern suburb of Melbourne. Due to hubby's new job looks like we will be on our way to Oz by the end of the year and have starting looking at possible schooling for our daughters. Glen Waverley looks nice and I seem to be getting a good vibe about both the primary school and secondary school. On the other hand rental properties don't look so good. Any info on this area would be greatly appreciated. Fiona:spinny:

    Glen / Mout Waverley

Hi - My family and I are moving to Victoria in October and thinking of renting in Glen or Mount Waverley. Does anyone know anything about these areas - particularly the primary schools? I've also been trying to find info on the school zones / catchment areas but can't seem to track it down. Thanks
