  1. My husband is a plumber/gasfitter and is just starting out the process for 175. I've seen on other threads that its easier to go down the 'gasfitter' route as its quicker and cheaper than doing the 'plumber' route. I've just noticed on the Vetassess website that gasfitter isnt listed as the nominated occupation list and when Ive gone onto the Australia.immi website the gasfitter and plumber are under the same number on the SOL. All v.confusing. It looks as though you cannot apply for gasfitter it has to be plumber. Correct me if Im wrong??

    Gasfitter or Plumber?

I have seen a few threads on this but nothing conclusive and I am now sending emails here there and everywhere to try and get a definite. Basically we sent off for our skills assessment for Plumbing a few weeks ago but the money hasn't been taken from our card yet. We have since been looking at whether he can apply as a Gasfitter instead as there is no practical skills test and the costs are so much less! Some are saying you need to have 4 years training - my OH did a 4 year apprenticeship in Plumbing which has gas components within it and therefore he received a separate gas fitter cert from BTEC when he qualified enabling him to do gas work. He then did a refresher course when this expired to enable him to continue to do gas work and sign it off. Does anyone know for sure whether he would be able to apply? We really need to find out before the cost of the other skills assessment is taken Any help much appreciated xx

  8. HELP, ADVICE REQUIRED. MY HUSBAND IS A PLUMBING AND HEATING ENGINEER AND AS YOU ALL KNOW PLUMBERS HAVE BEEN TAKEN OF THE CSL FOR NOW, SO WE THROUGHT WE WOULD LOOK INTO HIM APPLING AS A GASFITTER BECAUSE WE ARE AT THE BEGINING OF OUR APPLICATION. BUT OUR AGENTS THE VISA BUREAU HAVE SAID THAT BECAUSE HE DIDN'T DO AN APPRETICESHIP SOLELY IN GAS FITTING HE CAN NOT APPLY. WHAT HE DOES HAVE IS CITY AND GUILDS IN PLUMBING TO WHICH ONE OF THE COMPONENTS COVERED IS GAS SUPPLY INSTALLATIONS AND FITTING TO WHICH HE AS PASSED. HE THEN WENT ON TO DO A BPEC IN GAS WHICH IS THE NATIONAL ACCREDITED CERTIFICATES FOR GAS FITTERS.HE WORKS DAILY FITTING GAS BOILERS CENTRAL, HEATINGS ETC SO HAS NUMEROUS YEARS EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH GAS. MY QUESTION IS DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT QUALIFICATION HE WOULD REQUIRE TO BE ABLE TO APPLY AS A GAS FITTER.:arghh:
  9. Hi to all. Starting to panic now as thats what us mothers do!!! My husband is currently self employed Gasman/plumber, ex British Gas. After looking at various sites, it appears that Gasfitters out in OZ struggle re licences. Apparently when we get there, (hopefully May/June) Leighton will only be able to get restricted licence(thus restricted wages) and to gain full licence(earn better wages) will have to go back to college for 2 years!!! We are prepared to do anything(within reason) and just want to prepare for when the time comes. We would love to hear from ANYONE. Please help put our minds at rest. I know this is only my first message, but I have soooooo many questions already. really would love to hear from successful gasfitters. That's if there are any??? Many Thanks, :arghh: The Atkinsons. xxxx
