  3. hi guys Just wanted to see if anyone was interested in a 3 bed house in The Gap - tenant arrive back from travels end of March. Great house ony 500 p week - bargain as we only took it for 7 months but now have a great opportunity up the coast and want to go ASAP. You can walk to the shopping centre and bus stops and park for kids. 15 min into town out of rush hr. The kids all ride on their bikes around here, family friendly, lovely neighbours and we wouldn't want to leave except we have decided we want a coastal lifestyle. Would be great starting point. We rented white goods etc while we were waiting for our belongings and still worked out loads cheaper than a furnished app. Amazing pool and a backyard to play in. Please contact me ASAP if you are interested and I can mail you some pics. owners have been lovely and really would not want to leave them in the lurch - great opportunity . Let me know if you have any further questions thanks Faye

  6. Hi, I'm going to Australia from 1st October on a year long working holiday with Real Gap, sort of like a gap year but three years after graduating! Has anyone here done the same programme? I'm hoping to see as much of Australia as I can and just experience the whole place, meet new people etc... They guarantee job offers, mostly fruit picking and factory work My only concerns are where to stay after the first week and getting enough money together. Has anyone got experiences of Real Gap or are you about to go on a working holiday?

    The Gap State High School

Hi, I'm 15 almost 16 and I've just moved to Brisbane with my family! We've looked at a few schools and quite like The Gap State High School but I was just wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it? Like if they know anyone who goes there and what it's like etc. ? Thanks! Elise
  8. Hi I've been asked by an old friend in the UK if I can find out anything for her daughter who is hoping to come to Australia for a gap six months next year (from January to July), working while she's here to pay her way. Anyone know of any good forums she could go on for kids/young adults that are doing this? She's 19 and has done a course in office systems, and one in cooking (like chalet catering type thing I think) and is currently working in Fortnum and Masons to raise some of the fund for the trip, but will be looking at finding something to work at while she's out here to fund the rest of her trip. No idea which cities she's planning on visiting (although possibly not Adelaide!) but if anyone has any friends or rellies that have done this, or any of you have done it in the recent future before getting the migration bug, all tips and advice gratefully received! Thanking you all in advance.... Diane
  9. Has any one done any gap training to change their NVQ level 3 to AQF 3. If so what was involved. I am trying to find info but am finding it rather frustrating.:err:

Halls Gap to Adelaide this weekend

As the title says, I'm in Halls Ggap about to set off in the morning to adelaide. Trouble is I did no planning about routes thought I'd just go on a tomtom adventure. put the address in tonight and I got a new warning - do I want to avoid unpaved roads does this mean you need a landy to get through or is the tomtom trying to cosset me? Gonna try and build up the balls to hit don't avoid in the morning, but I probably will pussy out of it. Kind of made me realise I ain't in kansas (or lincoln) anymore. Yay for foreign adventure!!!!

    Halls Gap

I cannot believe in all our time here we only found this gem yesterday. We decided to have a day off work (believe me it doesn't happen often as I am sure a lot of the PIO members on here will tell you) and head off for a days drive, we had no idea where we were heading but we needed to escape for a few hours. We ended up at Halls Gap at 2pm, wow what a beautiful area, I really wish we had put on our walking boots as there were lots of wonderful trails you could take. We walked across the Bellfield Lake and drove up to Mt William (unfortunately we didn't climb to the summit as we weren't really equipped). The time flew and it was soon 6.30pm, I managed to convince the OH to stay for the night, however most of the accommodation was fully booked. We headed for the Big 4, the owners were lovely but again we were told there was no vacancies, I told them not to worry we would just drive back, but then they said they had one 2 bed available but they don't usually allow children in but on this occasion they would make allowances. It was a wonderful place to stay and I would highly recommend it and would definitely return (well with a bit more planning to include the essentials at least). Once we had booked in we headed off back in to Halls Gap and had dinner, there were kangaroos everywhere, even near the outdoor swimming pool and children play area. I totally lost count of how many were around and they were all so tame. We then decided to have one quick drive to another lookout before bed. It was amazing and the views were stunning. Unfortunately it had started to rain so the photos didn't come out at all. I just wish we had found this place earlier but never mind as we will definitely be back again.
  12. Some advice on the following would be greatly appreciated. My 18 year old daughter is to be included on our application for a 176 visa on the strength of her still being in full time education. When I make my application is approximately six weeks time she will still be an A-level student and so eligible to be included on the application. This evening she has decided that she may decide to take a gap year instead of going to uni straight away. My dilemma is whether she will be eligible to be included in the application if she decides to do this. Like I say, my application will be made in April and she is not planning to make a decision until August ish. Which date would be relevant for inclusion? Cheers Si
  13. Okay; so I was thinking that rather than obsessing over the fact that I'm trying to get everyone to consider emigrating to Oz for the sake of family and friends, I thought that a gap year after my studies was the better, more sensible option. I spoke to Mum about me and my sister taking a gap year to Melbourne & Adelaide for a couple a weeks or so, and she was all for it - I have the money for a return ticket, but just not the experience of being alone, or working (I could stay longer than a couple of weeks, so I might get a job there). She said that as long I have a suitable job over here and I'm earning enough money to maybe support myself a little for food and transport once I'm over there, then she was fine with the idea! She said; "it's good to have a goal in life, no matter how extreme it is". Of course, I did some research beforehand, I found I could afford air travel, but I haven't looked into the possibilty of car travel- I'll be turning 17 this coming Monday, 11th January, and I realize that lessons will be expensive, all the more reason for me to get a job. I'm also not sure that if I do get my lisence, will it be valid down under? Oh yeah, the Iceland thing! I mentioned this beacuse the price for a return ticket for Melbourne is roughly £600 (you can correct me if I'm wrong, though I hope it's not over £1800, that's all I have!) and there is a far limit to how long I can stay, but before the gap year to Oz was decided, my Geology teacher introduced that will be places for a trip to Iceland this March; six days for £750!! Which is better? I'd much rather stay with my family and friends a thousand miles away from home, than cramped in three star hotel with nothing more than a sleeping bag and a couple of layers; what do you think? Ha. So yeah; I'm not sure when the trip will go ahead, it'll be sometime after a finish sixth form - regardless of good grades or not, because I'm hoping to do a course in college on Animal Care before I even think about University! Sometime in the Summer - and yes, I know it'll be there Winter when I get there (I learnt that the hard way went I went all those years ago, those whom have read my previous threads will understand, meep!). So it'll wrapped in layers upon layers with a piping cup o' Milo and a stack of veggiemite, syrup, sugar and lemon pancakes! Who knows? Maybe I'll stay a little longer - might find a job, new friends, old friendships rekindled; I might even further encourage my family to finally emigrate if I find enough reasons to stay, the'll have to follow me someday! Heh heh. Look out Gaynor, Gill, Pat, Andrew, Josh, Finn, Lauren, Macy, Mia, Renae, Hollie, Greg, Tony, Wendy and Steve! I'm coming back!!

  15. Hi everyone Can anyone tell me anything about The Gap and Ferny Grove? We are currently living in Sydney and are looking to move . Brissy looks good, but I want to live in a really good area, as we live in a not so good area in Sydney at the moment. So any information on the above areas and more would be most appreciated. Thanks Angie
