Is is worth paying to ship my furniture over? I'm in a bit of a quandry, do I ship the essentials over so I don't have to rush to buy new when I arrive? or do I sell most of it in the UK and buy new. I don't have any furniture that has sentimental value but will be bringing certain items so will need at least part of a container. The second hand market over here is rubbish and I'll probably get peanuts for my furniture, most of which is only around 2 yrs old. Anyone any experiences?? When I did a reccy in Perth 4years ago, a couple I met who had just arrived had actually purchased more furniture in the UK and filled 2 containers!!!!

:arghh: Hi..:arghh: Can anyone give me any feed back (based on experience) weather it's best to move nearly all your belongings to OZ ... or to enter OZ with mainly personal belongings. We are in i dilemma as to start from scratch again (apart from sentimental things) or just move every thing based on a standard 3 bedroom house. Some of the furniture kinda needs replacing anyway But how have those got on with just going out with personal items by renting a house with hardly no furniture.Or have you rented a house then gone out and bought everything you need?Cause some of us women like to have nearly all new when moving anyway. Is there anyone out there that has come up against this? Any help is most appreciated:)

Hi everybody, Sorry if this was covered elsewhere. As much as we love living in Australia (been here 5 years) we have our reasons for moving back to the UK. This wouldnt happen however for at least another 3-5 years but I'd like to at least be as prepared as i can for the mountain of costs that face us. We came over with next to nothing and gradually bought everything we need, however if going back I would like to have everything I have now without having to 'start from scratch'. My question is, is it possible to ship furniture, household goods AND our car in the same container? surely its possible to hirer a bigger container and put everything in the same container? If so, how much more would it then cost me to ship my car as well? It would probably be cheaper to sell the car and buy another one once back in the UK? but id rather pay a bit extra and avoid this hassle. any help/shipping stories appreciated, also recomended shipping companies Cheers Danny

Whole house of furniture for sale in Sydney - available early Feb 2014
Bridgetjonhannahdaniel posted a topic in Aussie Chat
When we arrived in Sydney in Feb 2013 we bought a whole house of furniture from a family who were moving back to the UK. We go back to blights in Feb 2014 and wondered if there was anyone planning to come out here then who might be interested in a 'job lot'. We have the following available.... sofas, dining table and chairs, fridge freezer, queen bed, 2 single beds, crockery, BBQ would suit someone coming temporarily or whilst waiting for a container. Please let me know if you are interested. Collection would be from Beecroft. Bridget -
Hi we are returning to the UK and we have just sold our 3 bedroom house here on the Sunshine Coast. We have decided not to take any furniture back with us so we have a whole house full of furniture to sell. All of it is in VGC and nothing is over 5yrs old, most only 2yrs old. For example we have queen size beds (2 used for guest stays only) lounge suites, electrical goods, kitchen stuff, pots pans and crockery in fact the whole box and dice! We will even be selling our car nearer our departure date. Does anyone here in Oz know of someone arriving from the UK who needs furniture or needs to buy good stuff for a reasonable price. Ideally we would like to sell it in one go (offers around $10,000) but we will look at selling individual pieces. We only heard about Poms in Oz the other day so maybe some one can help. Unfortunately we will be leaving Oz around mid April 2014 so time is a bit short. Any help greatly appreciated. Steve and Caroline

I just want everyone's thoughts on the following choices: 1. Bosch for washing machine. 2. Electrolux for refrigerator. To elaborate, I am moving into my own apartment in Sydney. What's a good store (in terms of cheap prices) where I can buy these from? Also, where can I get the best deals for bedroom furniture, sofas, Television table? I am looking for something that is nice and presentable and moderately priced (not too posh and not too cheap). Whats a good store where I can buy these from? Many thanks for all your help.

HI we are hoping to move out to aus by the end of the year and doing the usual tally up of what to take and what not to take. Does anyone have any idea of what is good to take and what should be left behind? also, does anyone know of any good furniture places in WA? We have things like ikea, argos and supermarkets to rely on cheap household things, what's Australia's alternative? Any insight would be appreciated thanks

Recently relocated to Perth, WA. We had to wait 12 weeks for our furniture to arrive from Scotland. We opted to rent furniture and whitegoods for the 12 weeks and found a company called Furniture Hire & Sales Australia. Top quality furniture (Better than my own!) They provide packages, hire short term and long term and were surprisingly well priced. Goodluck! :em3600:

Hi Does anyone know where the best place is to get cheap furniture, in and around the Townsville area as I will be coming with nothing and really don't want to spend a fortune renting a fully furnished property. Many thanks

Hi There, We've been here for a couple of years on a 457 and have decided to head back to the UK for a couple of reasons. We initially shipped about 30 boxes of stuff here from the UK and it didn't cost the earth. We have purchased some reasonable furniture since being here and I'm wondering what the options are for taking the furniture and probably more than 30 boxes of stuff back? Do we need to get a full container to ship furniture back with the boxes in as well? Can you part fill a container if you don't need a full one. Any advice, recommended companies, recommended options would be appreciated. Cheers Rob

Hi I have been reading alot of posts about people sorting through there house before making the move and throwing out selling or giving away all there stuff. Not sure how many know about a site called freecycle http://uk.freecycle.org/ this site is as the name suggests recycling free stuff. If you have something that is too good to throw away but you don't want the hassle of selling it, you can post it there and see if anybody needs it. It helps others and they collect so you don't have to drop it at the tip or pay to get rid. Hope this helps
