Hi, I am in the process of getting quotes from shipping companies, I was speaking to one today and he told me that in 90% of cases the shipment is fumigated for which you are charged, however he couldnt give me a rough price for this. Has anyone experienced this and what sort of price is it?? Thanks Valerie :chatterbox:

Morning all.. Just got a quick query regarding cane and wicker items. We have a cane Moses basket that both our children used and we really want to take it with us. It looks to me to be varnished but I was wondering if we have items like this is it possible to get them fumigated in the UK to save them being hauled out and done on the dockside in OZ. Also....we have around 10 antique chairs which date from around the 1700's. Some of them look to have a horse hair filling. Will these be a problem and again, can they be sorted at this end? Cheers S

Hi again! has anyone had to pay fumigation charges when their goods arrive in Oz? I'm panicking about stuff and worried I'll end up with a huge fumigation bill, do they charge per item or what? Will they fumigate my feather duvets? Also how much is the quarantine fee? Thanks!

Hi, We have just granted our Visa and will be moving over to Australia the next few months. We live in Cyprus and we have several pieces of modern & antique wooden furniture that originated 8 years ago from Hong Kong. We lived there for 22 years. It will all arrive in a 20ft container to Sydney and pieces will be packed cardboard. Can anyone tell me what the process of fumigation involves? Do they just fumigate the whole container with packaging or do they unpack it all? Do they fumigate and charge individually for each piece? How does it work and can anyone give me approximate costs? We have a couple of months to clean everything so any advice will be gratefully received. Cheers, Ron Cyprus

Now this is not a p*ss take and don't laugh guys but my wife wants to know if she can bring her broomstick. Its a real broomstick that someone bought her many years ago as a birthday present, so it has a lot of sentimental value. Will it be a problem with it being wood to get it through customs? Should we fumigate it and pack it any special way before shipping? We are doing the usual - 20ft container for all our stuff. And please no funnies about "why doesn't she just fly in on it". :vampire:You can ask her if you want, coz I certainly daren't !!!! :no: cheers in advance

Has anyone here been charged by AQIS for having anything fumigated? We have some wooden flutes that may not clear customs and wondered how much they would charge us to clean/fumigate them. We will be taking them on the plane rather than putting them in the container. We have asked all the shipping companies and googled it but can't find an answer. Even AQIS were very vauge. Thanks for your help Chewy
