    ODP / Anaesthetic technician

Morning, I am currently an ODP in the forces but after 13 years its time to leave, so i have signed off and have the next year to prepare for transition. From my research i can see that the equivalent is an anaesthetic technician. I am new to this whole process and really don't know where to start? My other half is a floor layer also looking for employment. Has anyone got advice on the routes we should go down? what are the must's? where best to look for employment? visa's ect .........All advice is greatly welcomed. thank you Natasha
  2. Hi, I am only just starting to look into a skilled visa. I will be applying for a visa as a Fitter (General) Basically, I am currently a maintenance engineer with 5 years experience but my background is in the RAF, as an aircraft maintenance engineer (15 years experience) I would like to include my RAF experience in my application but I'm not sure how I get the relevant job statement from the RAF as I have been a veteran for 5 years. My question, has anyone got a job statement from the armed forces even though not serving any more? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Transfer from UK RAF to RAFF

I have been offered a career opportunity moving from the UK to Australia. My partner (not married) is currently in the RAF and would be reluctant to leave. Is it possible to transfer from RAF to RAAF? I have seen previous posts on here but they are from more than 5 years ago so wanted to know what was still relevant or any advice on how to find this out?
  4. Hi all, My official discharge date from the RAF is 04 Mar 18, however my last working day is 15 Dec 17, when we fly to Brisbane. I have been told that my Partner Visa cannot be granted until Mar 18 (discharge date) and I will have to enter Australia on a different Visa (so I will be unable to work for 3-4 months), then leave for 5 days to have the Partner one issued. I have had friends do this previously and they were granted visas before the official discharge date. Can any one shed any light on this please? I don't want to annoy my case officer by asking "are you sure you are correct?" Maybe there is some Gov policy somewhere I can look up? Fingers crossed for some help!
  5. Hi all, My family and I are looking to move to Melbourne in March April next year on leaving the Armed forces, I am a Mechanical engineer with qualifications in managment as well, My wife is looking to to get qualified over there to work with the disabled and my two daughters are 6 and 11 (they are just going to school, the spungers...lol) My intention is to go through an imigration agent to apply directly for a permanent Visa through sponsership and I am visiting family out in Oz in december and look to have interviews out there then. Any advice or prior knowlage of the pitfall involved would be most appreciated. Many Thanks for a great forum. Rob.

    Women in the armed forces

My son was looking at a job description the other day for front line and this position stated no women could apply. I'm not sure why if they are allowed to do everything else. I don't agree with them being treated differently but if they are willing to put in the effort to equal their male colleagues why should we stop them?
  7. A new report shows the economic downturn has forced hundreds of thousands of Australians out of full-time employment and into casual work. The report, released exclusively to ABC's Lateline program, comes despite conventional wisdom that in the financial crisis employers have not sacked workers en masse, but merely cut their hours. Bit more honesty from ABC versus print media who are harbingers of only good economic news, and encouraging people to buy or upgrade properties.....
  8. Hi Guys As the title suggests this is mainly questions for these guys! But if you know 'fil ya boots!!' I am currently serving in the RAF and I am going to apply for a 175 visa. Is it true that I wont get my visa till after I leave the RAF? Is it valid from the day after I leave?? Can I check on the visa status on line? Will it say visa granted? ( But they just hold it till my discharge date?) Cheers:notworthy:

    Any ex-HM Forces Weapons Engineers?

Hi, My husband is currently working as SNCO RAF Armourer and has HNC & HND (Accredited) qualifications in Mechatronics (Mechanical & Electrical Engineering). He is also currently studying towards a BSc Hons in Management of Engineering Technologies but this is not an accredited qualification. He has 21 years work experience. He is due to leave the RAF in June 2010, therefore we believe that now is the right time to start our visa application (sponsored by his Mother living in Brisbane). However, we are not sure which Engineering trade/occupation he should be assessed against as there are so many different Engineering trades that he could be classed as, but we want to be sure to maximise our chances of success. I am under the impression that he would be assessed by Engineers Australia and that he may have to submit a Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) but would love to hear from anyone who can let me know their experiences. Many thanks in advance, Mandy
  11. What is going on in the world:no:first the dollar gains against the pound....then I read this.....can anyone explain? THE Australian dollar yesterday collapsed to a 2 1/2-year low, suffering one of the worst falls since it was floated on international currency markets in the early 1980s, as fears grew that a global recession would end the commodities boom. The Reserve Bank's surprising move to slash the official interest rate by one percentage point did little to reverse the negative sentiment towards the currency. The rate cut spurred short-term momentum in the stock market, leaving the S&P/ASX200 78.3 points higher at 4618.6. Fear of recession forces down Australian dollar | The Australian

    Armed Forces Pension Query

Hi guys, I have made an initial query with the AF Pension people (Xafinity paymaster) who have confirmed that they can pay my pension into an Australian bank account. I am still a little puzzled as to whether it is taxed (in the UK) as it leaves the UK before arriving into my Oz account. Or do I just pay tax as it enters my Oz account. I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has recently left the AF and can share their experiences. Perhaps, I would be better having the money paid into a UK bank account such as the Nationwide in the UK and just make withdrawals via an ATM in Oz? Thanks for any help you can give me. Armed forces gratuity

Has anyone managed to have their final gratuity paid directly into an Australian bank account? If so, was the exchange rate more favourable, as the FFR generally seems to be? Thanks Paul

    Armed Forces Pension Query

:policeman: Can anyone who is Ex-Armed forces and receiving a pension tell me what you had to do to get it transferred to Oz. Is it simply a case of getting in touch with the pensions office and sorting it out with them?
  15. I have lived in 3 counties in England since I was born and have a question about police checks. On the http://www.immi.gov.au website the advice is "Residents of the UK will require a seperate check for each jurisdiction in which they have lived. If applying for multiple jurisdictions they must indicate this on the form to the local police." Has anybody else been in a similar situation and received their police checks that were accepted by the DIAC? what did you write on the form and was this reflected in the reply from the police? I am wondering if simply putting I need evidence of background checks in the three counties in question on the "Subject access request" form will get me the right information from the Police. I have spoken to the police and they say that all searches are done against the Central computer but I just want to check whther its worth sending off three request forms, one to each force. Thanks all for your help!
