Dear all After a few sleepless nights and lots of worry I have decided to write a thread and wondered if anyone had any advice. To give you a bit of background, I am here on a student Visa and am on my second year, last year i did an Advanced DIploma in Events Management and this year i have just started a Diploma in Small Business Management. I am in Australia with my partner who is on a Business Owner's Visa (163) which is a temporary visa and she will be applying for PR in a few years. My dilema is that although they have changed the rules for Same sex relationships on new applications for the 163, it does not apply for existing Visa holders, therefore come December when my student visa will be nearly up I am really uncertain as to what I can do? I really do not want to go back to the UK and wait till she gets PR to be added on as that could take years. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do? Before we left the UK, the visa process took a few years as most of you will know, and my visa agent back in the UK throughout the process suggested we just wait and see whether the laws changed and they never did, that is why my only option was to study as I had been out here on a WHV in 2001 so could not have another one. I hope someone can offer me some advice, I am feeling really low and worried at the moment and have no idea what to do  Thanks for reading this thread Nat xx

There was a post yesterday on one of the threads here saying the job market is terrible for new migrants. PR visa or not, 9 out of 10 migrants struggle to find anything. We should prepare ourselves to be unemployed for 6 months+. I was wondering what other people's experiences were? One would think it would depend on your profession / experience / skillset surely?! We are moving to Adelaide shortly, I am an accountant, my other half is in IT service management (ITIL) so both white collar. Both professions are on the critical skills list so one would hope that would mean there are jobs out there?! Or am I being too naive! We have considerable savings we are bringing over to buy a house with but obviously would like to find employment asap so as not to eat into the capital too much!! If anyone could share their general experiences of the job market (and accounting & IT specifically) I would really appreciate it!

So, about 10 years ago, my wife spent some time in Oz on a working holiday visa. Having dug out her old (and slightly mildewy passport), I have the paper visa, but not sure which 11 digit number is the 'visa number'. I have a 7 digit number followed X1, then by her surname - is that it?

Hi all I've always been a bit of a bargain hunter when it comes to cars in the UK, and have always found it relatively easy to get a good car for not a lot of money here. For instance I currently have a year 2000 golf gti, with all the toys, which I bought for £900. I've been looking at the used car market on gumtree for instance, in the central coast area, and well, I'm so disappointed. I wont be coming over with much money at all, and my immediate priority wil be trying to find a cheap but reasonablly nice car, so i can get to work straight away. I'd probably have about $2500 to spend on one. Can anyone guide me on this, I really dont want an 80s car! cheers

Form 80 - How the hell do i find out where i have travelled in the last ten yrs?
Andy & Kelly posted a topic in Visa Chat
Hi, I have to fill in form 80 in conjunction with my 856 application. There are many stupid questions on the form, one being 'please give details of visits outside Australia in the last ten years' My passport is fairly new so no record there. I have been to a lot of places in that time and don't know any dates or exactly where i've been. Does anyone know how to find this information? Thanks Andy -

We are looking to emigrate to Oz,hopefully Brisbane area although we are flexible. Originally we our plans were to go through skilled visa as my wife was a nurse however because her registration lapsed it is now going to take us too long on this one. Over to me - I currently have my own business and have been in sales for 12 years. Does anyone know where I could investigate a sponsor for me??? We are desperate to move but it's not looking good at this moment. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys, Having terrible trouble finding halfway decent short term accomm in Perth! We think we will be there from around 1st November and need somewhere for at least 4 weeks. I can't believe some of the dumps out there that people are looking for crazy money for. We're expecting a baby on 4th December so move is extra scary and looking at all the horrible run down places is killing the excitement of the move a bit! We would be happy to pay €3k for 4 weeks or could stretch to maybe €3.5k if necessary. Could be an apartment or a house, had to have air con as we have 2 year old (who is used to Galway weather!) and access to a pool would be great. Very flexible about location. Not looking for luxury but clean bright and modern (decorated more recently than the 80's would help!!!) One bedroom would be fine. Am I kidding myself with my budget? Thanks guys! Kate.

Hi I am a qualified Nurse with 8 years experience in both surgical/medical nursing. My family and I are looking to move to Perth in the near future. We have decided to apply for PR as this is our best option. We have been looking into sponsorship as I would be the main applicant for our visa application. I am not really sure where to begin and would really appreciate some help and advice. What help did you get on relocating to Australia? Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi guys, Im new to the forum, and heading over to Sydney as soon as my Working holiday visa comes through, hopefully in the next 3-4 weeks, for a 12 month escape and to see how life over there differs from the UK! Ill be staying in a hotel initially, whilst looking for an apartment to rent.. my question is, how long can I expect to be staying in the hotel for, (working out estimates of cost prior to actually paying rent!) and does anybody have any tips on finding a place to rent? My wife will be staying in the uk, sorting out the rental of our house, while I sort out things oz end.. and coming out to meet me as soon as its sorted out. Appreciate any help guys Dan

We are getting closer to getting our partner visa being granted ( should be mid November) and my thoughts are turining to getting a job. We won't be heading to Oz till at least the first 1/4 of 2012, but it is something I need to sort out. From all the threads on employment here, I can't seem to narrow down if people are getting jobs before they go or when they arrive in OZ.... I can sympathise with people not wanting to divulge their secrets as one less person who knows the tricks is one less person going for the same job... But what I want to try and find out is --- How did you get your job ?? Dd you apply from a website like SEEK ?? Did you send your CV out to prospective employers ?? Did you move out there without a job to go to ?? How did it happen for you ?? How did you have an interview ? etc. etc. The thing is for us is we are in no great rush, but need to sell the house first before we go, but ( and this is the last resort) I could go out there first by myself if the right job came along. I know others have been offered jobs before they went and I am intrigued as to how it all fell into place... Any thoughts greatfully recieved.

After reading several threads on this site, I am feeling negative regarding the job situation. Most people are finding it hard to get jobs before leaving the UK as most agencies and companies prefer you to be in Oz for the interviews. My question is why would you leave a excellent job in the UK to go to no job and hopefully find one when you arrive there, to me this is a big risk when you have a family to support. Has anyone got a job via Skype, and is this the best solution?

Hi guys, I am just flipping through my passport and was reading the label for my just approved SC119 visa. I was reading on the DIAC website that you must stay employed for 2 years and that your visa might be subject to cancellation and all that stuff...I think everyone knows it by now. Weird thing is though that when I look on the label there is no condition on it and the same applies to the online E-business check website where you type in your passport details,DOB and so on. When I click on "Entitlement" it comes up with no conditions either. It only says AN, subclass 119, Permanent resident , Indefinite stay. In my PR grant letter on the other hand it says that the visa might be subject to cancellation when my employment ceases within 2 years. Well, thats a bit different than what I was reading on the DIAC website. There it says that when I am out of control it wont need to fear cancellation. Different words in my letter...there is not in - or out of controll. Is the SC119 having a condition by regulation already and DIAC doesn't have to set it out when issueing the visa ? On the other hand I remember my student visa was also bound to many restrictions and conditions...and they were all listed. Anyone with the same situation ? EDIT : I forgot to mention that I have worked , so far, the last 2 years in the ACT as a Cook (my sponsored position). But only 1 years was full time out of this. The other year was part time. I have proven these years by accurate work references to the CO. In total I have worked 3 years in the ACT before the PR was granted. Might that have be a reason ?
