  1. As you can guess I havn't done a thread before, and I am a new member so I hope I am doing this right!!!! I wonder if I have done my application wrong and hoping for some advise. We have got our TRA and State Nomination, new passports and sent the visa app off on 4th June. I am now worrying about our health checks and police checks. I thought we were to wait until the case officer tells us to get these done, but it looks like some of you guys have got the checks done before the visa have been acknowledged! Please help me, is this something I have misread, or a tip the forum has provided. P.S. I love this site, the info is really great. ta to you all. Roberta:wacko:
  2. The proof is in the pudding they say. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera to provide the proof. But no more!! I am now a proud owner of a camera and have done some more research. People are using crackers to form the base of the cheesecake but I shan't be doing it. I am going to mix and match recipes from various sources. But before I do the discussion, I will need to provide the recipes so you know what I am referring to. ------------------------------------------------------------- Chocolate Lava Cake: 250 gm butter 250 gm semisweet chocolate 5 egg whites [NOTE: The original recipe calls for 70 gms sugar ONLY but I found that a bit limiting...) 1 cup castor sugar (separate out 70 gms for whipping the egg whites and dissolve the rest into the chocolate mixture; I used Lindt 70% Dark Noir so added two more tablespoons of sugar) 60 gm flour 1 tsp vanilla extract Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees. Combine butter and chocolate on a double boiler. Meanwhile, add sugar and vanilla to whites and beat till volume becomes double and it 'runs down in ribbons'. When the chocolate gets done, [ADDED by me: mix in the sugar left over from the whipping,] take off the boiler and mix the flour thoroughly. Fold egg whites into the chocolate mixture and bake for 12 mins. The result looks like this: To give credit where credit is due, I got this from here: http://videos.mid-day.com/Make-melt-in-the-mouth-Chocolate-Fondant.htm --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheese filling: I'll use the filling recipe given here: http://www.my-cheesecake-recipes.com/Chocolate-Cheesecake.html but I'll add two teaspoons of lemon juice and subtract the chocolate. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now here is the plan. I'll subtract the flour from the lava cake recipe above to give it a really gooey texture. And as noted above, I'll add two teaspoons of lemon juice to the filling and subtract the chocolate. The flourless lava cake shall be the base, and the chocolate less 'lemony' filling shall go on the top and the whole thing shall go into the refrigerator to set. QUESTION: What effect do you think will subtracting the flour have on my base? Do you think it will acheive the nice gooey texture I want? Do you see any major pitfalls in here??? Quick response needed since I need to go out for my mum's grocery list and want to do my buying in the same trip...

    Finally! Sausages!

Omg....for a whole 8 weeks I've been searching far and wide for some NORMAL english tatsing pork sausages....and finally found some! The Aussies must be big on their beef and chicken cos all I've pretty much seen are beef and chicken sausgaes, but no pork! Or if there is pork sausages they're a foot long and seasoned! But I finally found some!!!! In Lorne, in Foodworks, British Pork chipaletes, YAY :jiggy:

    Finally landed in Sydney

After a rollercoaster few weeks, the stress of packing up our house and all the other stuff, we have now landed in Sydney. Husband started his new job on Monday and I am just taking a week out to recover from it all. Just enjoying being a tourist for a little while! We shall start the fun of looking for a rental shortly, really looking forward to that one!!! I must admit, I did feel a little adrift when we first got here and little lost and very scared! I assume that this is a normal reaction for most people? Overall, the city seems nice and generally the people friendly so hoping it is the start of a positive experience.

    its finally happening

well after years of deliberating the move is on, the visas were granted june, the house officially went up for sale today, got a viewing tomorrow, hubby had interview with a recruitment agency yesterday so hopefully all is looking good. my mom passed away 3 weeks ago, i was having a dilemma about telling her that we "were" going due to her initial reaction when we just mentioned we were thinking of it so i never did tell her. my dad said that she felt so guilty for not letting me go and that she really did understand why we wanted this but just couldnt bare it, he also said it was a great opportunity and to go as soon as possible with his blessing, which took such a feeling of guilt off me. he will be selling his house too and is going to live on their narrowboat cruising the canals.. hubby has given his resignation date to his boss (1st march 2012) for us to hopefully fly out to perth mid-late march at the latest  just keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well with the house !!!
  9. There was a thread on here awhile ago, about Ned Kelly's remains finally being identified, well seems now his family have permission to bury his remains with his family 131 years after he was executed. RIP http://uk.news.yahoo.com/australian-outlaw-ned-kellys-final-wish-granted-034010231.html;_ylt=AhIUHzfjgDMqHOBGS3az6Nj5fcl_;_ylu=X3oDMTRjNGp1aXJ2BGNjb2RlA2N0LmMEbWl0A01vc3RQb3B1bGFyIExpc3RpbmcEcGtnAzA5MDQ1NDY1LWJjYjItMzA5NC1hN2VjLWY5YTJhYjA0MjMxZARwb3MDMzUEc2VjA01vc3QgUG9wdWxhcgR2ZXIDOGRjZmUxNDAtMGFmMi0xMWUxLTlmY2YtNzgyNDYwMTM4OTZl;_ylg=X3oDMTF1Z3VvOWdlBGludGwDZ2IEbGFuZwNlbi1nYgRwc3RhaWQDBHBzdGNhdANob21lfG1vc3Rwb3B1bGFyBHB0A3NlY3Rpb25z;_ylv=3
  10. 'Fluff' was backed up all the way through the tube and poking its head out of the mouth of my vacumn. (Can a head poke out of a mouth, though?) As a bloke who lives on his own, my standards of cleanliness are somewhat 'relaxed' and I was quite content to generate a 'protective layer' between my carpet and my feet. It actually reminded me rather nostalgically of walking through the leaves on an Autumn day in The New Forest. I did consider being proactively 'green' and started to extract stuff out of the old bag until I realized I had a spare one.

The day is finally here ...

Well the day has come.... Shippers due tomorrow, and I can't wait.. We are happy we gave Australia a fair go.. But for us we never felt at home.. We fly out Friday night, and return knowing we will be home. A big thank you to all who gave me strength when I was feeling down, and encouragement to do what was best for us as a family.. To all thinking or in process of doing so, all the best for the future.. There is always hope, and do what is best for you.. :jiggy::hug:

    We are finally here

Hi all, thought of say howzit and telling everyone how it all went so far. we got the sponsorship through in feb this year. Employer started the 457 Application and we added our bit later. It would have been all approved within 5 weeks , but we had to delay the approval as our son was born in May and we wanted to add him to the original application. All was approved by mid June and we made all the plans to come down under. We have chosen John Mason as our moving company from Crawley (between London and Brighton) to go to Melbourne. We have send our 2 cars and household goods in a 40cubic extra high container and our goods should arive on th 29th this month. I guess after clearance we see our beloved stuff mid october. Insurance company we used was A Letton Percival & co. Service was outstanding and they cheaper than anyone else and include things such as mould cover, breakage and self packed boxes!! etc... It was a nightmare finding good insurance as all other companies don't insure you for half the things (e.g. self packed items.). We flew with singapore airlines, and since we only have a temporary 457 visa, you are not entitled to any extra baggage. BUT email singapore airlines, explain you emigrating and its a one way, they will give you at least 10kg extra. we flew as 2 adults, 1 child, 2 infants and we had over 170kg. Believe me, we were absolutely stunned that we did not have to pay a penny at heathrow airport for all the extra baggage. And on top of it, they have given our almost 2 year old a seat as well till singapore. 2nd flight to Melbourne she had to sit on our lap. I have phoned singapore airline about 3 times, begging them for bassinet seats and all sit together, i guess it helped . In melbourne we are currently staying in a furnished apartment in the docklands. Not much around here for the kids and grocerie shopping is limited but the views over melbourne are second to none. Brian (my partner) has started work 2 weeks ago. We have been here now 3 weeks, and loving every moment. Brian is still in Limbo a little as he left his 2 oldest children in the UK - so therefore a bit heard sore. As for me... I am all up for it and so looking forward to the future in Oz. I might have to mention that we both not originally from the UK. Brian is South African and I am German. So we have left our original homes over 10 years ago. And Family is still in Germany and SA. So leaving the UK behind us, was not such a big Issue as for people who have spent all their lives in UK. We also looked around for rental propertie and now moving this saturday to Point Cook - Sanctuary Lakes. Looking forward to a big home with a garden . I have found looking for rental was fairly easy. The Application process was pretty straight forward as well. When it comes to be selected by the Landlord... is a different story ... but hey, we got the house we wanted. Option 2 house had some marks on the walls and we asked the owner if this would be rectified until we move in, we even offered to paint it ourselfs if they provide the paint. Reply from owner, you can have the house but would need to paint yourself, buy the paint yourself, and make sure its the same colour. Ok no thanks our reply - I do not want a landlord like that if you already start of like this, Apart from all that ... I am happy to be here, and as time permits, will be here now more often. Good Luck to all who want to make the journey down here... it is well worth it .. despite the stress of everything before you move and the weeks waiting for you stuff. Anyone in Point Cool area and want to meet up one day - i am all for it . Got 3 little kids (4, 2 and 5 months) and my partner is working in docklands full time. see ya
  14. I've been thinking about this since Sunday when I was driving through Surry Hills and I suddenly thought 'this IS home!' The floodlights of the SCG, the previously strange looking buildings and trees, all seemed 'right', somehow. I was contrasting it with my feelings on Sundays back in the 90's when I always felt horribly lonely. I tried to go and see my brother's family on those days. I can still remember when he or his wife picked me up at East Hills station and their kids would be tied into their seats at the back, giggling at me. They still do laugh at me come to think of it. I guess you tend to forget that the Aussies have lived here all their lives, (just like us in the UK!) They don't need to worry about whether they 'belong' or not. Perhaps last Sunday was my 'belonging' moment? It could happen when you go 'home' and realize that you are looking forward to going back to Australia? Or when you become an Aussie citizen, or something else happens. For a minority it never happens.

(I have posted this hread couple of days ago in the Victoria section - so you might have read this already. Finally making the move

Hi, Thought I'd post and say hi. Wife and I have finally decided to move from Scotland to Australia. Looking at Melbourne or possibly Sydney. We both work in the rail industry which still seems to be looking for engineers and project managers so hopefully won't take too long to find a job. Quite daunting looking at the list of things we need to do before we go, but exciting too. Looking at 3-4 years first while renting out our house in Scotland then see if PR is the way forward. Matt

    Finally got it!!!!!!!!!!!

Our visa was granted today (176ss) after 4 years. We hope to be in Perth around April next year and are looking to stay in Mandurah. We are soooooooo excited. We are a family of four. I am a pharmacy technician (35) and my OH is a bricklayer (37). We have 2 boys (6 and 4 years). Just told the family today, and had mixed reactions, some not to happy that we have now got it. Hope they finally come around to it.:biglaugh:
  18. Good evening folks... So.... we have arrived and are settled in..ish. Chris arrived 8 weeks ago, I followed him out 5 weeks later and in three weeks we have got a house, furnished it, bought a car and been on a few wee adventures. We have also spent a lot of time and money in IKEA! If anyone feels homesick, go to IKEA, cos they all look the same and you could be anywhere in the world! We are living in Hope Island, lovely area, dead quiet. Bit like a retirement village, lots of older folks driving about in golf buggies.....and us! Just wondered if anyone else not receiving a pension lived in this area??? Also if anyone has any ideas about what to do on weekends when its raining, any ideas would be much appreciated. We have been to Moreton Bay and did a whale watching tour, great to see the big guys, but if you get sea sick (like I did) I wouldn't recommend it. Went to Australia Zoo also, it was good to see but if i'm being honest, Chester Zoo in England was much better!! We are currently trying to plan some weekend breaks, Noosa and Byron Bay look good and not too far to travel. Loving the rain at the mo.....feels like home!! Debs and Chris

The last few months have been really stressful because there has been so much happening in our everyday lives which really affected my studies. Yesterday I got my results.....
