Poll: What is your favourite Sydney beach? Be Objective!
MARYROSE02 posted a topic in New South Wales
I've been thinking about this all arvo, first whilst hanging my washing out (taking my mind of the faux pas of mixing coloureds with whites -WHY does that matter?), and then taking a shower (a PROPER one, not a 'Pommie' one!) There's no point in saying 'Avalon', 'Bondi' or 'Cronulla' when you live over the road from the beach and don't have to worry about parking. PAYING to park too! Why would anyone want to undergo an hour or more in Sydney's traffic or public transport system when it's 40 degrees? The only time I got burnt last summer was when i put a short sleeve shirt on, forgot to take my sunscreen, and by the time I'd driven from Artarmon to Curl Curl at noon on a mega hot day, my right arm was 'gone'. I've swam on over a hundred days at Neilsen Park this year - free parking, natural shade, safe swimming but I don't think I'd go if I had to use the bus. (I'm enough of an anorak to record all my swims in my diary - sad I know.) After all, they all have 'sand' and 'water' but what makes them stand out?! -

Thanks for the idea Connie Here's a few to get things started Hog's Breath (Cafe)-not something likely to stimulate your appetite Athletes Foot-yes that's a disease, why not change it to 'Club Foot', or go the whole hog and call it 'Gangrene' Clymax (natural product to help a woman's libido-I've got a better idea, leave australia) Footy (short for football) meaning any game predominantly played with the hands Soccer (football! cor, dear) The socceroos. that must have taken a nano second to think up, here's a better one: 'the Joeys' The Matilda's -Aussie female soccer team (to me conjures up images of old dears in dungarees holding pitchforks) the Wallabies (I would have even thought that 'the echidnas' would be more threatening, at least they've got spikes) I'm getting tired..more later -
I can be a bit of a humbug with all the Xmas stuff, but if truth known I enjoy it, well at least the day itself. So what (if any) is your favorite Christmas Carol. I know religion can come into this but on the whole I just enjoy a good old sing song. Mine are many, but my all time favourite has to be 'Silent Night'. There was one other one many years ago.............................................................. One Christmas works doo many years ago, 'Carol' and Mistletoe just seemed 'right' at the time.:policeman:

Hello My husband and I and our 3 year old daughter are moving from the UK to my native Australia in January. We are unsure whether to take everything or if it will be more cost effective to just take our clothes and some of our most treasured possessions and re-buy the rest in Australia. Also, if you are someone who did take everything, are there some things you now wish you didn't bring because they proved costly to ship or unnecessary in Australia. Looking forward to your thoughts! Thanks.

Hi there, Yep I'm hungry, and as a result food is the only think I'm thinking about. I just wondered what people's favourite recipe book is (ok you can have a couple)? And (if it's different) what recipe book is your most used (i.e. which one has the most food stains on it!) My favourite books are Heston Blumenthal - The Fat Duck cookbook (but I'd never cook anything from it) and Stephanie Alexander's - The Cook's companion (aka The bible) Stephanie's is also by far the most used and stained book

I had a wonderful nights sleep last night :arghh: so have been sat downstairs for about two hours in a sort of trance like state  Anyway, after about one hour I realised that the noise emanating from the big black box in the corner of the room were in fact programmes aimed at 2-4 year olds :wideeyed: (Not that I am capable of participating in anything more grown up at the moment - Im only on my second boost of caffeine) Whilst waiting for the cogs to slowly start turning, I thought I may try to broaden my education by watching the aforementioned programmes . . . and ended up thinking how woefully we educate our children these days (especially with enhancing Speech Production):- So, this has got me thinking about the wonderful programmes from my childhood and how much more educational they were:- And my all time favourite, this was may I add, repeated in the 70's/80's, Im not that old :laugh: So, theres the proof of my argument, the TV of my childhood has been far more educational than todays programmes, I learnt all about Biology and Gender differences (See Rainbow) and I know which Mushrooms to avoid (look what it did to those in Magic Roundabout) and I also know that if ever I am in danger or feeling low that I will never be on my own . . . . . . as Champion will have my back :notworthy::biglaugh: What are your favourite TV shows from your childhood?

Just wanted to see if I was missing out on a good radio station. On my many trips to Australia I have found two radio stations that I tend to tune into. Nova (Perth) Hot Tomato (Brisbane) I still listen to them in the UK (Via Iphone App called Tunein radio) whilst patiently waiting for my visa to be allocated a CO then fingers crossed a Visa. So what's your favourite Aussie Radio Station so I can have a listen. Cheers Mandy xxx

"I drink until the doorman is a Christmas tree And my speech is just a gas leak" one of the best descriptions of being drunk I've ever heard without googling, anyone know who it is?

Just thought I would ask. Mine is peaches and cream, can't get enough of them, though sometimes they stick in the old throat a little.:embarrassed: Cheers Tony.

Mine are the Lake District (especially the Borrowdale Valley - its stunning), but I love and know I will miss lots of places in the UK, such as London (still in my opinion the coolest city in the world), Leeds, Brighton (North Lane have the BEST vintage shops!), Parts of Cornwall and Devon, The Yorkshire Dales... I could go on and on. These places will be sorely missed when I move to Oz and they all rock! There are many more too. Over to you...:cute:

I know poetry is not everyones cup of tea, a bit high falooting etc, but do you have a poem(s) that strike a particular chord with you. I have many, but my favourite and tends to sum up how I feel is this one: INVICTUS. Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate I am the captain of my soul. I know this can seem a bit bleak, it isn't meant to be, sorry. I am a very happy person really, honest guv.:wubclub: Cheers Tony
