    Extra baggage for migrants

Hiya does anyone know how you get the extra baggage allowance? Emirates say they don't do it anymore, is it only certain airlines? Someone told me that you can get the extra baggage if you open a bank account with ANZ, is that right enough? Thanks for any help

2 extra days in Melbourne Quarantine

Hello, Has anybody paid for extra night's in Quarantine in Melbourne? Our dog Bella can leave on the 16th Jan, however we set off from the UK on the 16th and cannot pick her up until the 18th. We had to send her first because of the rabies jab! and thats the earliest we can get there. Any help advice would be appreciated as Bella is my biggest worry with our move, she's such a softy! Thanks Hayley Ps she's a springer spaniel by the way.
  3. Hi all, I know some airlines like Singapore airlines offer extra baggage allowance for free for holders of PR visa's. Does anyone know if Air Asia offer anything like this? Thanks, Lucy :cute:
  4. A couple was invited to a swanky costume party. The Mrs. got a terrible headache and told her husband to go to the party alone. He being a devoted husband protested, but she argued and said she was going to take some aspirin and go to bed and there was no need for his good time being spoiled by not going. So he took his costume and away he went. The wife, after sleeping soundly for about an hour, awakened without pain and, as it was still early, decided to go the party. Since her husband did not know what her costume was, she thought she would have some fun by watching her husband to see how he acted when she was not with him. She joined the party and soon spotted her husband cavorting around on the dance floor, dancing with every nice looking woman he could, and copping a little feel here and a little kiss there. His wife sidled up to him and being a rather seductive babe herself, he left his current partner high and dry and devoted his time to the new babe that had just arrived. She let him go as far as he wished , naturally, since he was her husband. Finally, he whispered a little proposition in her ear and she agreed. So off they went to one of the cars and had a quickie. Just before unmasking at midnight, she slipped away, went home, put the costume away and got into bed, wondering what kind of explanation he would offer for his behavior. She was sitting up reading when he came in, and she asked what kind of a time he had. He said: 'Oh, the same old thing. You know I never have a good time when you're not there.' - 'Did you dance much ?' - 'I'll tell you, I never even danced one dance. When I got there, I met Pete, Bill Brown and some other guys and we went into the den and played poker all evening. But you're not going to believe what happened to the guy I loaned my costume to.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.'
  5. So annoyed this morning. Had an email from CO to advise that they are likely to refuse application for a 457 visa because the nomination by the employer has been refused  Immigration requested extra documentation from them on the 16th. Employer provided the information on the same day, and chased them a week later to see if they had received it (no reply). They emailed them again, again no reply. I had an email from my CO last week to say everything was ready to be issued, but they are still awaiting documentation from employer. Employer sent again, and called them to confirm they had received it (nobody available to talk to them on this occasion). This morning had an email from CO to say they are likely to refuse my application as the employer has "not provided the requested information", and did I want to withdraw the application before it gets refused or provide evidence that the employer has a valid nomination  Emailed my employer, she said they have provided everything requested and have no idea why they would say they haven't. Makes me so mad, almost at the point of thinking is this all worth it? We must be talking at least another 6-8 week delay now if we decide to give it another go. Dealing with immigration is like talking to a brick wall, nobody responds to emails or phone calls, or even acknowledges your emails. When you call them you get told the case officer is busy and will send you an email, nothing is ever received  Really don't know what to do for the best now.
  6. Hi there, was hoping someone could help - Im going to be travelling to Australia with Singapore airlines who I know offer extra baggage allowance for people who are travelling to live in Australia permanently. I currently have a 309 visa ... which strictly speaking is a temporary visa for 2 years, so will this make a difference? ... I dont want to be stuck with a £800 bill for an extra bag at the airport. Cheers!

  9. Australian woman finds live rat in a loaf of bread An Australian woman said Thursday she was horrified after finding a live rat nestled inside a loaf of bread she bought at a supermarket Brisbane: An Australian woman said Thursday she was horrified after finding a live rat nestled inside a loaf of bread she bought at a supermarket. The woman, who had been shopping in Aitkenvale, in Queensland's tropical north, noticed there were holes in the sliced bread as she was packing her bags into the car. "I said to my friend, 'this bread's got a hole in it, it looks like a rat's eaten into it'," the woman, who asked not to be identified, told the Australian Associated Press. When she lifted the bag out she found a live rodent had chewed through the packaging and was lurking inside. "The thought of a live rat in my loaf of bread and so close to me was pretty gruesome," she said. "I didn't want to vomit, I just wanted to throw it away, I got all squeamish." Pictures in the Townsville Bulletin newspaper showed the rat inside the loaf's plastic packaging. The woman took the bread back to the supermarket after the discovery Sunday but they were reluctant to take responsibility, she told the newspaper. "It came from their shop but they are saying it was in the bread before it was delivered to the shop," she said. A spokesman for Coles supermarkets said the incident was "obviously concerning" but isolated and the company would investigate. Townsville City Council Environmental Health executive manager Gavin Hammond confirmed a complaint had been received. "While it's virtually impossible to ascertain where the rodent came from, the council takes public health very seriously and has carried out an inspection of the supermarket and the bakery," he told the Bulletin. "We are satisfied that they have complied with all health requirements." Sliced for me from now on me thinks lol
  10. Hi all, Does anyone know whether we would be able to take the 40kg of luggage if going over on a 457 visa? Wasn't sure if it was just for perm residents? Gave them a call today and who I spoke to didn't make it clear at all! Thanks for your help, Katie x
  11. Hi guys! Just a quickie! Does anyone know if any of the airlines offer extra baggage when you are flying one way to Oz? Someone mentioned to me that you can get 40kg a person but didn't know the airline? They could just be talking out of their bottoms though!! Nicky x
  12. Hi All Need a bit of molly coddling...worried we may not got visa due to all the extra information we have been asked to give for hubbys 457 sponsored visa. Our visa application went in 1st July and they came back 29th July asking for a whole heap of new stuff to be submitted. Some I understand (they fleetingly crossed my mind whilst filling out forms) like me being married previously I needed to prove my name change and divorce. My ex husband has signed 1229 form but they still want a letter from him to say it's ok to take my 17 yr old with us who will probably be 18 by the time we go so it will be irrelevant...ok that one is just a pain in butt! My husband has worked for himself for over 10 years and they want employment references???? We have tried explaining but they keep asking, we are going to ask some customers to write letters anyone else been in this position? Hubby had a drink drive ban when he was 19 and needs a police check now also, anyone else had problems with this? Hubby has been qualified as a panel beater but worked as a car painter all his life his company are aware of this and still want to sponsor him as a car painter - immigration not satisified he is qualified for the job so asked for skills test - visa assist suggested he take in country assessment test. He is booked to take a certification here in UK for ATA (£400+VAT) which they have said may or may not be suitable for their purposes they won't know until they receive it. Has anyone else had this situation is ATA acceptable in Australia? We don't know if he gets the ATA certification if it will mean he does not need the skills test? Form 47a for dependant over 18 yrs old - my son is at uni and after seeing a few posts on here about having them included even if they do not plan to come with you at the moment we added him to the visa. Has anyone any clues about the financial sources question? My son mainly relies on government funding for staying at uni but also has top ups from us and somewhere to stay if he needs it. Is it ok to say he is dependant on government funding or will that be seen as a negative ie that he is not dependant on us? If I say he is mainly dependant on us will that be a negative if he wants to come and study, we would then have to prove we had funds to support this? Should I say he is not coming so he can finish his course is that allowed for him to finish and then (if he choses) can come to live with us? My head is going to burst....please feel my pain on the form 80 if anyone has had to fill this out you have to state dates and locations of anytime spent out of the UK including holidays for the last 10 years....who has this kind of information?????????????? It has told me we have not had enough holidays over the last 10 years though!! This visa process is adding years to me..... Candice

Pay extra to sit the HSC????

Hi Fellow PIO Members Does anyone know about extra fees for taking the HSC if you do not have PR. The school my daughter goes to has just been sent a bill for $1000 for me to settle immediately for her to take her HSC exams. The school do not understand this and think its wrong. We are on a 163 Business Owners visa. I know when she goes to Uni I need to win lotto for her to attend until we gain PR next year but was under the impression that as long as school fees were paid there was nothing extra... All thoughts gratefully received!!! Thanks xx

  16. Well we went for our medicals 28th March, took info for our son from school and medical reports from when he was diagnosed. The panel doctor suggested just sending the letter I got from his SENCO at his school as this explained how able he is to function normally and that his statement would most probably be removed if he were to stay in Uk. They now want another assessment done which is fair enough, they dont know him. The trouble is finding a specialist who can do all what they are asking up her in north east england does anyone know of any and roughly how much it costs, so I know I'm not being ripped off. Carl
  17. Hi, Me and my family are looking at moving to the Joondalup area, and have been looking at renting but was wondering what is normally included in the rental price and what extra's do you have to pay on top of the rent? Thanks alot for your help Jamie
  18. We are going back into the rental market as I am returning to study. Anyway, what i was wondering is: what was that extra information or what did you provide that you believe secured you that rental? Message me if you want to keep it under your hat as any info will be appreciated  BTW we have previously rented and had our bond returned in full but the rental agent is on maternity leave so i am struggling to get a reference. I am going to phone them on Monday see what they can do. Thankyou :wubclub:
  19. Hi, Just had our SS approved so are excitedly looking into arranging our medicals and just hoping to see if anyone has recently had a medical done and have had to pay extra for blood test as they have a tattoo? We are looking at going to the Bridge Clinic and all the posts I have found on this seem quite old and offer different answers. Thanks for letting me know any of your experiences!
  20. I think I may have mis-read something. We have just called Singapore Airlines for availability and asked about extra baggage allowance. They said non :nah:, not even when I asked about migrating one way. Can anyone please point me in the right direction with airlines and questions to ask? Many thanks Leila x :notworthy:
  21. Hi After our house sale fell through in September we decided to book flights to validate our visas in February. We have booked via Dial a Flight and are flying with Emirates. We have now agreed a new sale and all being well we will now be emigrating in Feb rather than just validating  However, Dial a Flight have said that we should keep our tickets as returns and that as we did not ask for extra baggage allowance at the time of booking we will only be entitled to the normal 20kg or whatever it is. We have permanent residency and really could do with the extra allowance, I believe you get up to 40kg per person don't you? Has anybody else been in this position and do you think it would be worth approaching Emirates direct?
  22. Hi, i have some extra tickets for days 2 and 3 of the Sydney test (4th and 5th Jan) in the block next too the b/army due to some fellow poms pulling out. I'm not looking to rip anyone off just to fill the seats with poms. These are $80 tickets with postage on top. If you are interested Please PM me.
  23. Was back in the UK in July and needed to ship a carton of extra presents, that people kindly gave us, to Brisbane. Used a company called Excess Baggage Company which came up in a Google search, we were short of time and they seemed pretty on the ball in the UK. We were quoted 8-12 weeks but we only received it yesterday (18 weeks) and the contracted company Excess use in Brisbane were totally useless. They were rude, late and a shambles. The delivery side were incompetent but very efficient at asking for money. Be warned. On the whole I wouldn't ever do it again you pay when it leaves the UK and pay again when it arrives, its a con. Cost us about $250 to ship about $300 of goods.

Getting extra points with a 457 visa

Hi, I've been leaving our plans to migrate to Australia for far too long (was working in the Gold Coast in 2002 on a 457 visa),so now want to go back permanently with family before it's too late - 42 now....and not getting any younger. I'm hoping to apply for 175 visa (hope to get 110 points with IT skills on SOL list ), but wondering if going out on a 457 visa for a year is a good way of getting extra 10 points for Australian Work Experience.......and get me up to 120 points.....has anybody did this? Thanks, Iain
  25. Just wondered if anyone has managed to get extra luggage allowance over and above the 30Kg economy class allowance when emigrating? There used to be a promotion code 'UKMOVE1' or some such but its expired and all the posts on the subject are old and out of date and theres nothing on thier web site. If you did can you let me know how you went about it, we fly Wednesday and 30Kg is not enough!! 40Kg would be perfect!! Kind regards Jay
