Married to a west ham fan, with teenage daughter who is eighteen and son age twelve we arrived here august 2007, fortunatley were getting used to it here, because its been so hard and i really feel for those who have just arrived here it takes at least 2 yrs to settle...hope to hear from you thanks emma:unsure:

  3. Hi All, We have read many threads on this subject and felt it might be worth starting a new thread on exporting a car plus belongings, why... we can't seem to get to the bottom of whether we should be quoted a higher price because we are including our car or if it should be cheaper as the car takes up much of the space? Or a container is a container so they should all work out the same sort of cost? Our plan is to take the car and then fit in as much furniture as possible into a 20 foot container. The following companies have visited - Britannia Movers International Pickfords Excess International Movers Ltd Doree Bonner International PSS International Removals John Mason Crown All of them had their good points i.e polity sales people who seemed to have a good understanding of what would fit in the container and how many cubic feet would be needed. But we have found they all have very different opinions on what will fit in the container. Some say they can fit all of our furniture with the car and others are say we cannot? So to all of you out there with experience in this matter could you answer the following as it would be very helpful. 1/ 20ft Container with car and belongings, how much do you thinks a fair price is? We will be moving within 30 km of the port in Perth. 2/ Has anyone been able to get confirmation in writing that the moving company will not charge any extra if they are unable to fit everything that is list on the manifest onto the container? And they will pay the access for it to be deliver through a shared container at no extra cost to us if this is the case? 3/ What other expenses are not included in there quote that we should be aware of? i.e clearance costs in Perth, steam clean car etc? We will keep this thread up to date with our experiences, what we've learned and anything else that might help others in their move to Oz. Thanks in advance for any tips and advise you can offer., Megan:biggrin:
  4. The Denham family are a family of four, 32, 30, 4, 2. They live a peacfull little town in essex called 'south woodham ferrers',near chemsford. But one day after several hard days at work Mr and Mrs Denham cried ' there must be more to life then this!'. So they decided to move their young family to a slower, sunny place. Where kids can be kids, and family time is playing not watching tv. Perth appears to be the place for us, although I did like the look of adelaide. We have a 3 week visit booked in may, so only time will tell. I am a cancer nurse working at Southend hospital & hubby works for Ford motor company. I have some family but we are not very close, so I was thinking 'why not start making friends now'. Although Perth is a big place, as brits we are used to traveling. So if friendships are made, we want feel as lonely! (hopefully). We are attending the 9th march meet up at the 'halfway house' A127, so please pop along. I know, abit long winded, just thought it would be a good idea. All replies welcome!!!!! Michelle, Jon, Kiera & Erin
  5. I would just like to highly recommend a company we have just used to ship our 4 bed house from Essex to Secret Harbour - Perth. Andrew is the rep for Moving Partners who is an agent for Hamiltons International moving company, Andrew is really helpfull and will try his hardest to beat your lowest quotation. The surveyer from hamiltons was very helpfull and full of advice. It took 1 day for 4 guys from Hamiltons to pack and wrap everything and just over 2 hours to completely fill the 20 foot container to the door. The container left our house on 21/9/11 and is set to sail from Felixstow on 24/9/11 with an expected arrival date in Fremantle 10/10/11 so fingers crossed.

    Essex Newbie!

Hi guys Well im a couple of weeks into finally deciding to get proactive about moving to Aus! Im Louise (32) and my oh is Will (27) ......... yeah yeah I know! We have 2 girls aged 12 and nearly 10 and a little monster who is 15 months. Currently scouting for migration agents but looking probably at GoMatilda due to the volume of recommendations but just waiting to hear back from them. Area of choice would be Melbourne but making up little folders for Sydney and Adelaide as well as these are the main places of oh's industry base. So far ive managed to work out that its going to be a long and bumpy journey to get there but Im a true believer in an easy life being a boring one  Trying to get help into which is best and most appropriate visa for us to go for - but getting LOADS of contradicting advice re what occupation band oh fits into :arghh: But we will get there ...hy hook or by crook as they say. Would love to chat to a few locals who are on their journey to get down under x
  14. I am thinking of resurrecting the Essex meet. Some of you might remember that there was a bit of a hoo hah at the last one so it seemed to fizzle away. It will be at the Half way house which is on the A127 near Tilbury. Who would definitely be interested? When I say interested I mean about 95% sure that they would go. It will be on a sunday afternoon. http://www.half-way.co.uk/ JOHN

Just came across this site - just wanted to say hello - arrived in Melbourne August 2007 - miss family and friends - my only issue since arriving is that I have made no friends and am finding this extremely hard to come to terms with - apart from that life is good ! I have lived in East Tilbury, Stanford-Le-Hope, and Bristol, now live in Melbourne. Hope to post and get to know people on here :cute:

  25. OK, here we go again........... (and I can hear everyone go, not again, please)...... But, yes it's time for our next Essex Meet which will be on Sunday 24th August @ 2.00pm at The Halfway House on the A127. If you are new to the site, or are just thinking about Oz at the moment, come along and have a chat to like minded people who are already on their journey, in the visa process. The pub does food, and has a play area in the garden for the kids. So come along and make some new friends, but we will also be saying good bye to a very good friend, April and Richard (Mrs C) this will be their last meet, before they fly off to start their new life down under. Hope to see you all on the 24th KP Nuts
