  1. Hello all, New to the website but seems very helpful thus far. I'm a REME technician in the army (class 1) and planning the great escape to Australia with my aussie girlfriend on a defacto visa after serving my 1 year termination period. Wanting to stay in trade I was hoping for some solid information and the immigration website doesn't clarify much. I have a NVQ level 3 in electronic engineering amongst other trade related qualifications. Is there a course or exam i can do to get my qualifications and experience recognised by australian employers while in the U.K? perhaps a guild of some variety i can join in the U.K that is recognised internationally? I have read about a skilled worker exam to do during the visa application but I'm not sure if that is for skilled worker visa applicants only. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Especially any ex army who knows about the resettlement side of army termination and what courses etc would help. Many Thanks
  2. Hello, I am sure that these kind of questions were asked before thousand times but I wonder about my situation. I have B.Sc. and M.Sc. on Electrical-Electronics Engineering. In addition I have success on electronics. My work experience is about 90% on IT at my current job. Also my total work experience is about 3,5 years on IT. I have not changed my job. Now I wonder if I can get assessment from Engineers Australia as an electrical or electronics engineer. Do they count electronics and IT as closely related occupations? Or I have no chance assessing my skills on electronics? I guess better we consider new changes on immigration law.
  3. Has anyone gone over or at least done the electronics equipment trade worker TRA? It doesn't come under VETASSES but TRA and was wondering what was involved as I can't find any information on it at all. Good luck to everyone applying, going or coming back.

  7. Hi all, I am due to be moving to Aus in the next couple of months and I was just wondering whether they will try to charge me duty on electronics of mine when I do. Things that I'll be taking with me on the plane such as SLR camera with lenses, laptop and possibly some sound equipment. Is there an import duty exemption for people moving to Aus or would I be liable to pay for things I bring in when I move there? Matt

    Electronics from Canada to Aus

Hi All, I am curious what the situation with bringing electronics such as laptops, tv's, playstation and so on is. Canada has 120 voltage and from what I read Australia has 240 voltage. Does this mean all I need is a plug adapter to make it work? Or will I need a more sophisticated power adapter? Thanks!
  10. Any comments on the likely hood of finding jobs in electronics and software engineering at the mo ? Also good place / websites to look on ? Nick
  11. any one here applied on occupation 2125-13 Electronics Engineer? I've discovered that Electronics Engineers on the 175 queue are not getting their CO according to the date of application. there is a thread here CSL Electronics engineers - no CO : British Expat Discussion Forum and peoples are getting frustrated with the CSL progress. although DIAC does mentioned that all CSL applicants will be allocated a CO by end of May but no one can guarantee for this.

Hi Guys, We are planning to move very quickly but have so many questions popping up...I hope you can give us some advice. One of the things is that we dont know what we can ship over to Aus and what we cant? I assume we have to leave all of our electronices behind, but does that include everything or do some smaller items work (IPod etc)? Is there a way of buying a converter? Are the prices of electronics cheaper or dearer than the UK? Any help would be appreciated. Danny
