    Work experience and Education

Dear all, My wife and me are evaluating our chances to immigrate with either 189 or 190. However, I get slightly confused with what should be counted and what should not. Your advice is very much appreciated. My wife (main applicant) has Bachelor degree in Accounting (221111) but 0 yrs of experience as accountant. She also has Master Degree in Information Systems (261312) and 3.5 yrs experience. Which path should she choose: Accounting or Developer? I got recently confused by finding out that only Bachelor degree gets points Also, not sure whether she can claim Partner skills points as my occupation is only the short-term occupation list. Thanks
  2. trHi, My husband is being relocated to Sydney in September and we are faced with the tricky task of finding a school for now four year old from London. I know she is still young but we only plan to be in Sydney for 2/3 years and then move back to the UK. Having already had over 18 months of learning to read and write (as they start earlier with this in the UK) we have been advised to put her into year 1. She adores what she calls 'work' and her teachers in the UK, teachers I know in Sydney and two educational consultants have recommended this would the best move especially since we would prefer her not to be too far behind when we come back to the UK. We wanted to send her to a Public school but they refuse to even asses her for a Year 1 place. Does anyone have any views or experience with this situation? Or found a private school that worked well in this situation? Any thoughts or ideas so appreciated. It seems so daunting with never having been to Sydney and not being able to look around schools before we leave the UK. We were thinking of northern beaches as where we may base ourselves but again this is not set in stone. Thank you!

    189 Australian Study Query

Hello All, Apologies if this has been answered somewhere. I have tried looking and struggled to find the right answer. So I am currently researching into the 189 Visa requirements and have come stuck on the overall education and Australian study requirement section. I aim to top up my FdSc to a full BSc this year in the UK. However, I am confused as to whether my BSc has to be closely related to my occupation (which I have been in for over 8 years and intend to use as my skilled Visa application). Yes it's on the skilled list. - Horse trainer. I'm considering topping up onto either an Animal Science, Wildlife Conservation or Equine science degree. Would this affect my application depending on the degree type considering my occupation is Equine based? Is it best I follow the equine top up route? Secondly, I have not studied in Australia nor had intended to until I had moved out there. As part of the Visa application it asks whether you've done so, is this vital to your application? Must you do it or have people been accepted without having done this? Sorry if any of this is confusing but also thank you very much for any advice you have. Hana
  4. Hi! Need help URGENTLY!!! I'm an international student graduating this year July 2019. I'm looking to get the 485 TR visa, followed by the 186 employer-nominated visa. I need advice on the Australian Study Requirement. I understand the ASR requires 2 years/92 weeks of study, and I'm unclear even after several calls to the DHA. Here's my case: - The 3-year course I am doing is 156 weeks of study (based on CRICOS). - I transferred to Australia midway through, so instead of 3 years I spend 2 years here. So 2/3 years x 156 weeks = 104 weeks. - A full 2-years/104 weeks consists of 4 semesters, each semester with 4 units = 16 units (full 3 years/156 weeks would = 24 units). So 16/24 units x 156 weeks = 104 weeks. Now the thing is, I did 13 units instead of 16 units. And 13/24 units x 156 weeks = 84 weeks which is under the 92 week requirement. I would need to do 2 more units to satisfy the ASR (15/24 units x 156 weeks = 97.5 weeks). I eventually concluded with some options I'm exploring: Option 1- IF I don't fulfil the ASR and I need to do 2 more units? Is there a chance I can apply for exceptions (due to reasons below)? On one call to the DHA, I was advised to submit my visa 485 application with an agent and cite my case, and that the case officer may exempt from the ASR. Things to note: 1) I will be completing my degree July 2019. Adding 2 units would be absolutely pointless in my degree. It just doesn't seem to make much sense, costing so much time and money. Option 2- IF I don't fulfil the ASR and I need to do 2 more units? Is there a chance there is a different visa route I could take does not require the ASR? I am interning with an employer as an accountant who's looking to take me on full time and most likely sponsor my visa. On one call to the DHA, I was told about TR visa 482 (that did not require ASR) and recommended to go through visa 482 and then 186 for a ASR-free employer-nominated route. But upon reading online, it seems like visa 482 requires 2 years prior working experience (which I may need some clarification on how the visa works and if I may be eligible!) Option 3- I do the 2 units because I have no better alternatives. Perhaps I can do a professional year? At least I would gain 5 points while working to meet the ASR. Exploring study options that may be more useful or cheaper as well, such as taking 2 easy-pass units up in a low-cost registered institution. Really need some advice as DHA calls have been pretty contradicting and I'm really confused! Please let me know if there are other options I could explore.
  5. Any idea what sort of documentation is typically required when applying for or starting a new school? I'm looking at Queensland in particular. I'm presuming general proof of ID, possibly some sort of handover document from their school in the UK, possibly medical documents (?)... Any general info or links to relevant posts would be appreciated. Regards BFB
  6. Hi there, I'm trying to find out the Australian Equivalent to my UK CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF). Does anyone know?
  7. Evening all, I am starting my HND foundation degree in mechanical engineering alongside a level 4 NVQ next month with the hope that it will put me in a good position to progress into an engineering career in Victoria Australia. Are there any engineers on here who could give some good careers advice to somebody wanting to climb the ladder in Aussie engineering? More to the point what level of job should I be hoping to obtain with the HND level qualifications. I want to be looking into jobs well in advance but am not sure at what level they will give me the time of day. Graduate schemes etc. I am currently a Quality inspector for a large international company producing industrial gas turbine and Aero engine components, at the time of emigration I will have around 10 years experience within an engineering background. I will hopefully have Status metrology CMM qualifications also. Any help will be much appreciated
  8. Hello, I need some advice about what education to list in my expression of interest. I have received my LOD from ANMAC last week and am now wanting to submit my EOI. I have a degree in adult nursing (UK) and various level 6 and level 7 post graduate diplomas and stand alone modules. Do I list these in the education section, as it asks for all secondary level education and above? I am aware I will not gain any points for these courses, but as they will be mentioned in my CV do I need to list them in the education section? Or are they only interested in courses that I would gain points for? Many thanks, Ali
  9. Hi, EOI can anyone advise? Where you fill out the education section on the EOI, do I need to list my GCSEs, A levels and PGCE or just my BA Hons degree for which I will be claiming the points?
  10. Hi, recently we have moved here to New South Wales and I am wondering what is the equivalence of National 5 and Higher Scottish Qualifications here? Thanks

Enrolling into school on temp Visa

Hi all, Looking for some advice from anyone else in my situation. We came to Sydney in January on a 3 month visitor Visa. We have just applied for the Last remaining relative Visa (835) and been accepted and granted a BVA WA, with rights to study. Does this mean I do not have to pay the school fees for my daughter to go into primary school? Or are we classed as temp residents even though we are awaiting PR?

    3 Year teaching Degree??

Hello all. I am a new user ... recommended by my Brother-in-law ... I have been researching moving to Australia to teach for a while but I am still rather confused as to the value of my Teaching Qualification. I have a 'BA Hons Early Years Education with Qualified Teacher Status' Degree - I am a fully qualified Early Years and Primary Teacher with QTS - My degree however was 3 years and from what I have gathered from research, to teach in Australia I will need a 4 year teaching degree. Please can someone clarify this for me? Don't want to get my hopes up if there is no chance! Thank you in advance for any advice given!
  13. Hi, Along with my parents business account bank statement and savings account statement, can i show Bank loan FDR Receipt as proof of financial statement? This is because my main proof of finance is the fdr receipt which. However is showing bank loan fdr a negative point for my student visa? Thanks

  15. Hi I have recently submitted my EOI for ICT Business Analysis on the 189 Visa. All good I have the 60 points, but have recently learnt that they are only inviting for 70 points and above. I have only submitted with RPL from ACS, but was wondering if I could do a certification and get an extra 10 points? My question is really what level of certification can I claim the secondary level education for? Do I need a Bachelors? or would a BCS Certificate in Business Analysis Practice at practitioner level suffice? Or do I need to do the full BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis? What do they mean by secondary level education? Thanks, Kate
  16. Hello, This is my very first topic and I hope to receive some info that can put my mind at ease. We are a family of 4 (2 kids) and are working on a migration plan to Adelaide, SA under the sub class via 489 which does not give similar benefits of a 189 or 190 visa category, i.e. education and health benefits. My question's and concerns are: - How expensive would schooling and health cover be? - Can I enroll my children in a public school or does it only have to be a private school? - What would the health coverage or insurance take care of, only doctors consultations and or medications? Any additional info that you feel can be of help would be appreciated. Thank you.
  17. Hi, moving this December (under 457), but still confused with narrowing down suburbs, primarily due to options for secondary schools. A lot of folks suggest the south east areas like Mount/Glen Waverley areas, however, of course, rent can shoot out pretty quickly there and we're looking for a 2-3BR for a fam of 3, the 3rd being a 13+yo teen. Any feedback on finding schools for teens? We're not looking for "top academic" type of environment but those schools that can offer the most experiences for our kid. Right now, Wantirna, Box Hill, MV areas are like the back-up, but we're a getting conflicting reviews on northern areas (Greensborough, Coolaroo, Bundoora, etc.) Of course, safety and lack of gang proliferation is key. CBD access isn't a major priority as long as there are nearby transport options as I'll be telecommuting. Cheers.
  18. Hi all PomsInOz, We are moving fairly soon to the Bunbury area and are looking at schools in the area. Kids are 4, 6 and 9 and to be honest I don't even know where to start. Help! Happy to fee-pay if that means better education. My 9 year old is introvert and likes his maths, my 6 year old is pretty good at reading and writing, would like to be an 'author' and write bout science, that tells you enough, and my 4 year old hasn't gone to school yet but loves scribbeling and singing and drawing.... Any good advice is welcome. AlandEs
  19. Hi everyone,I’m about to submit my visa application (189) today but I just got one last doubt on the education history part:I graduated from a Bachelor degree (Electrical Engineering) back in France and it is my Nominated occupation for the 189 visa. (Engineers Australia assessed my skills only based on my undergrad qualifications in France). Now, I am currently studying a Master degree in Sydney in a different field (commerce), not related to the nominated occupation for the visa 189. (I will only graduate at the end of this year and I am not claiming any points for it). When I’m at the Education part, I need to choose a ‘Qualification’ for my Postgrad studies in Australia.Should I select ‘Master degree’ or ‘Other – Non AQF accreditation’?It would make sense to select ‘Other – Non AQF accreditation’ since I’m not claiming any points, however, since AQF stands for Australian Qualification Framework, it made me doubt...Thank you,Victor

    Dependant child aged 18?

Hi everyone, If anyone could offer me some advice it would be very much appreciated. We are hoping to move to Perth in the not too distant future, but due to being 5 points short for a permanent visa we would unfortunately need to apply for a 457 T/V with a view to applying for the 887 P/V after 2 yrs. We have a daughter who will be 18 when we apply who would apparently therefore need to be in full time education to be able to be included on our visa due to her age? We have looked into a full time college course that interests her but she has also been offered the same qualification but as an apprenticeship which she would get a small wage for; £350 p/m. She would still be living at home and obviously would be dependant on us still on such a low wage. Therefore my question is... although this apprenticeship wouldn't be classed as being in full time education, as most of her week would be hands on in placement, it is still a learner course so would this still make her eligible to be on our visa? Sorry to make it long winded but thought I need to properly explain my circumstances. Thank you in advance.
  22. Hello. My husband and I are about to start the transfer process from England to Australia. I am about to complete my Foundation degree in Early Years (a 4 year degree) and I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to find out what my career options are in Australia. I have the Certificate in Early Years practice, which is a level 4 Diploma, as well as a myriad of other qualifications and 14 years experience. Thank you so much, as I have no idea where to start. xx
  23. Myself and partner will be migrating from the UK to ACT hopefully by the end of 2016. We will have, by then, a two year old who we will need to start introducing to kindi/education. I have no idea about how schooling works in Australia and want to be fully prepared for our daughter's future: kindergarten fees, school fees, subsidies, starting age, location catchment etc... Any advice and information would be greatly appreciated.
  24. Hello, just looking for a bit of advice please. we are looking to emigrate to WA. My partner is a primary school teacher (3-7) and has completed a 3 year education studies degree and then a further 1 year PGCE (3-7). She has worked as a teacher now for one year. Prior to this whilst at college ect she worked for a pre school as a nursery nurse/play assistant, working around 20 hours per week. In relation to the skills assessment I see no issue from looking into the AITSL requirements, but in relation to experience she has only worked as a teacher for 1 year and I understand you need at least 3 for visa applications My question is would the pre school work she completed at college count towards the experience as its a similar occupation that she has developed and gained further qualifications? any help would be appreciated. thank you.
  25. Hi All I have been offered a 12 month stint working back in the UK and I am thinking of taking it up but my 14yr old daughter is in Year 9 at school here in Sydney. I have a number of questions which hopefully someone can shed some light. Does anyone know what the impact a move to the UK will be on her HSC preparation? I would send her to school in the UK and from memory as she turns 15 this Oct so she would start 4th year of comprehensive school, which is year 10, I believe. Does the UK follow the same program of work as here especially for Maths and English so that she would not miss out on too much? Also what if the contract is extended for a further 12 months (that has not been discussed) how would that affect her HSC prep? Would she be able to take her GCSEs instead and would these count towards a University place here in Aus? TIA John
