    Reccie to Perth at Easter

Hi all Well we had our reccie and acctivated our 175 visa this Easter. Things have been very busy so only just now catching up with PIO. I enjoyed reading posts on reccies etc so this is ours. Well we flew with Emirates which was great, they are very good with kids giving them toys etc. Only issue i had was we prebooked our seats to get more leg room, without letting us know they changes the plane size and our seats for all 4 planes was in front of the toilets. Not much sleep for us with the chain flushing every 2 mins lol. Saying that the food was good, and the lovely australian wine made up for it. When we arrived our friends were there to meet us, which was great they took the long way back to show us the view of the CBD at night - lovely. I was suprised at how small the city seemed and it reminded me a little of America, the signposts and large roads. Jet lag kicked in, this was easied with regular visits to the beaches. Wow they are great, City Beach was our first we had posh fish and chips and watches the sun go down. All i kept saying was no couldnt live here its horrible ( tonge in cheek), why would we want our children playing at this lovely beach. The reason I was saying this is due to the crap we were getting from family members, quote - why do you want to take the kids to oz. I made she we had lots of pictures to show they why we are going. lol Other beaches we visited were Hilarys, Trigg, Cottesloe and Mallaloo. We drove along the coast drive on many occations just to take in the views. We were very lucky that the friends we were staying with had a friend who lent us a car. That is how friendly they were... The two weeks flew by we visited Caversham wildlife park, this was great we feed the Kangeroos and petted coalas. We were going to go to Rottness and Perth Zoo but time and money did not allow us, we are going to save them for when we move (which is 4th Sep). Our friends had to work but as it was Easter and Anzac holidays they still managed to show us around fremantal ( the street performers fesival was on), they also took us to a beach BBQ which all their new friends which was great. Next time will be better as it will be my turn to drink not drive lol. We stayed in East Perth which was a stone throw away from everthing. The circus was in town (city), so we ventured there - very interesting as they had animals. My friend took me to bodybalance which was an exercise class, this was out side on the grass next to swan river. Loved it the views and stars were fantastic, mozzies not so good. We took the ferry accross the river, just for fun went to the park then came back lol. Oh yea we also hired a quad push bike from a shop by the side of the river and cycled up the swan river was great fun. Everybody is out running and cycling - note to self must get fit before we move. Night life - very interesting. Went to few bars and a club in Leederville, well tried to get into a club they only allow you in with your passport or ozzie driving licence and they take a picture of you as you enter. I took my uk driving licence out and got turned away - gutted. Ill know next time. Music was ok drink was very expensive, but most have a few then go out. I did not make it down to the lucky shag which is by the river but my huspand said it was great - views amasing ( the luck shag is a bird by the way). lol We went out to some lovely resterants again with the exchange rate pricey but hay ho live is short - injoy. There is lots of Asia places, great food yum. We had a few BBQs one at Kings Park ( the largest inner city park in the world), Hilarys beach and at City beach. I was amazed at the quality and at how cleach the FREE yes FREE BBQ facilities were. In all we spent £1800 in two weeks - we paid nothing for accommodation or car. But we did eat nice and drink nice wine. We were on holiday after all. Our flights for 4 of us was £3200 so all in all £5000 for our reccie. I am so pleased we did a reccie, I have seen the areas we can afford to live, we have had a taste of the beaches and life style and we can not wait. We did so much more in two weeks but this is enough typing for me lol See ya peeps Jay xx

  4. Hi I've arranged a meetup through another thread and thought I'd post the details here too: Location - Little Creatures, Freo Date - Monday 25th April Time - Midday Details - We could grab some food (and beers!) then check out the Fremantle Street Arts Festival which is running all over the weekend: Arts Festival Website here: http://www.fremantle.wa.gov.au/Festivals Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/fremantlest...stival?sk=info I've checked out the trains and they're running a Sunday timetable on Monday (but aren't running all the way to Freo on any other day over the Easter Weekend). So far there are 7 of us confirmed and possibly more. All new to Perth and wanting to meet new people. We'll try and get a table out the front, weather permitting. If you're planning on coming along then send me a PM and I'll give you a link to my facebook page so you can see what I look like! Looking forward to meeting everyone on Monday. Have a great Easter Weekend! Jo

  7. Hi All, I recently booked flights to Sydney for a 5 nite break over easter weekend, but I'm worried now about whether restaurants, pubs, public transport and tourists attractions will all be at a slow go / standstill due to the holidays! Should I rearrange for another time? Never been to Sydney before. Thanks for any advice

    Happy Easter and Traditions!

Easter as a kid was always special for us, I remember sitting and painting eggs before boiling them with my grand mother and father, preparing our Easter tree with egg decorations and chicks, easter egg hunts, making hot cross buns, all lovely traditions to pass onto our kids , friends and families,, what traditions do you have, that are also lovely to bring to Australia or have back in the Uk?
  11. Apparently because of it's religious ties. I'm no model Cristian, but aren't they missing the point of Easter celebrations. I'm gobsmacked:mad:

    Easter surprise 999 style

Just finished dinner watching Dr Who sat at the dinning table, and 2 police vans and 4 officers have just knocked on the door asking if everything was OK, The policeman said that their had been a silent 999 call made from our house. OH replied we are ok but Dr who is in the s*!t. We quizzed both the kids and both stood their all angelic and denied knowing anything. The policemen seemed happy and left. :embarrassed: I have just pressed last called number on the phone to find you guessed it 999 my son is now sat at the kitchen table writing his letter to say how sorry he is for wasting police time.:wubclub: Any one else had any Easter excitement
  15. Hey all, So my wife and I have been here for four weeks and are dying to meet some new people. I know that there is a get together on Sunday 19th, but we were just thinking that with this been the bank holiday weekend; would anybody like to get together over the next few days? We live in Parkwood, south-east suburbs, but we have a cool yard with a huge pool and also a games room (snooker table, dart-board etc..). We'd love to do some entertaining, so a BBQ at ours would be great. If anybody is interested, then let us know. Sat, Sun or Mon works for us, so depending on responses, we could schedule it for one of those days. Failing that, if anybody is out and about in Perth for a few drinky-poos over the weekend and fancies some company, drop us a PM. Hope to hear from you all. Don & Helena-x PS) Apologies for the double post :cute:

  17. Hi, I’m coming to Melbourne from the UK for interviews with Brightstar, which are on Tues 14th and Wed 15th April, and am looking to move out there permanently. I arrive on Saturday 11th but unfortunately my friend who lives in Melbourne isn't going to be around so I'm going to be kicking my heels for a few days. Is anyone around that weekend who fancies a few drinks and a bit of chat to get the lowdown on the city? I'm thinking of moving to Carlton/Brunswick/Fitzroy/Richmond/St. Kilda and would love to get people's options. About me: I'm 28, professional bloke. Likes socialising, hot airballooning, all sports, good restaurants and cafes. Cheers all Kris
  18. WOW Les+Steve What a day, it was the BIZZ thanks so much for your hospitality once again and thanks to Lee for the taste of Scotland. It was also great to meet so many new arrivals, your house is becoming more like a Immigration Transit Camp and it's always handy to have a psychiatric nurse on hand. Good luck to you Niki hope the new job goes well. Cant Wait Paul

  21. Helloooo.... We are lucky enough to have been granted our visa (175) and if all goes to plan should be heading over to QLD (Sunshine Coast) March/April 2009. for the 1st 4 weeks we plan to book holiday accommodation to use as a base while we do our rekkie and find an area we'd like to settle and HOPEFULLY secure a rental property. (We are looking from Caloundra to Nambour & inland). What I'm wondering is, do you think over the Easter period would be an 'easier' time or even more difficult to find and secure a rental property? Just thinking if people are on holidays, then maybe they won't be going to view rentals....or do you think it'd work the other way...and as people are on holidays, have MORE time to go looking at rentals? This is my biggest worry securing a nice rental property in a nice area. I've heard the competition is FIERCE for rentals...and with our having 3 little dogs with us. We will of course be bringing all our references/statements etc to prove ourselves and to try and make things easier for ourslves. I have read though that the government are making 'rent auctioning' illegal nest year and that they are to increase the termination period from 2 weeks to 2 months, so hoping that will make things a bit better. If anyone has any advice....thoughts...or wants to share what they are doing... I'd love to hear what you have to say. Thanks in advance guys Jenny

  23. Hello my friends, Just wanted to send a little reminder that the PIO Meet for Easter Monday is at 2pm, The Bobbing Apple. Near Sittingbourne in Kent. Please don't wait for an invite, if you can make it Just Turn UP, All are Welcome and you don't even have to live in Kent! I chose this venue as there is plenty of space for the Children, you can get food and of course they sell wine......lol:yes: I have found the two previous meetings I have been to, very informative and lot's of fun. After all we are all like minded and want to get to Oz asap. It also give us the chance to put faces to the names. you don't have to worry about booking a table if you want to eat as it has a walk in service in the reasturant. I hope lot's of you can make it and if it is succesful we could make it a regular thing. If you want some more info please feel free to send me a PM. April:jiggy:
