  4. Hi forum I got WA SS recently and one of the requirements listed with the 2 year living in the state requirement is that I must transfer in "around $30 000". I can do this, but I'd like to know how strict they are on it? What if I prefer to leave funds in my home country and rather try make it on my salary once I'm there? I'd like to transfer the funds in once I am ready to put a down payment on a house. Any ideas? Do they demand proof at any time after landing? Thanks for the advice
  5. Hiya, we are flying with SIA into Sydney and then have a ticket booked to Hobart with Virgin blue - it was bought in conjunction with the SIA ticket so is a through fare. Just wondering though does anyone know what the policy for transferring from the international to domestic terminal is? I've flown with Qantas before and transferred through and they put you on their own free shuttle service but wasn't sure if Singapore and Virgin have this type of thing in place and I can't seem to find it no matter how much I google! I'm just starting to panic and want to be as prepared as I can be because of course we will have loads of luggage with us, a bike and also my 18 month old and pram! Thanks so much for your help in advance! xx
  6. Hi there, I have a couple of questions about getting my quals and experience recognised in Oz... if anyone has been through the system with the same level of qualifications and experience as me, I would be really interested in hearing about it... I'll explain a little about where I am... I am currently applying with TRA as a gas fitter for the purposes of a visa (it's cheaper than using VETASSESS as an electrician). However, I would also like my electrical qualifications and experience recognised. I understand that if TRA successfully assessed me and issued an ARTC, then once some additional training had been done with PEER in SA or CET in WA, a full grade A license can be obtained. My uncertainty is that I don't have C&G 2360 or 2330... I am just an NIC registered Domestic Installer, with a full scope license and 17th Edition. I have plenty of experience rewiring houses, fault finding, testing and certifying but only in the domestic field. I'm not sure if my quals and experience will be enough for an ARTC? Has anyone else on this forum applied for ARTC, only being a Domestic Installer? My other question is about when to apply... I have read that a few people on here have applied for ARTC whilst still being in the UK (from a thread in Sept 2011)... I thought that an ARTC can only being applied for with a valid visa to work and an Aussie address? Can anyone who has any experience of this tell me how they managed to apply whilst still in the UK? Did you give an Aussie address on your app or were you honest? Thanks in advance guys - this forum is sooooo helpful!

  10. Hi Does anybody know how long you have to live in Australia (on a permanent 175 visa) to qualify as a Domestic student? Or is it automatic? It's probably obvious but it's easier than waiting for my agent to respond... Thanks Luke.

    Domestic Students!

Hi All, As some of you may already know our visa got granted a few weeks back and thankfully I was included on my dad's visa - yippee! :jiggy: Originally we didn't think I would get accepted on my dad's visa so this was a massive shock! As i didn't think it would happen my back up plan was to go over to australia on a student visa so only really looked at info for an international student - however now I don't need to do that so i'm starting to look at going to university as a domestic student! This is where i'm getting a bit stuck.... we are going on a 176 visa so we are classed as permanent residents but are not citizens until our 2 years have passed... so I'm unsure as to what loans i can get. I did a search on this forum but didn't find very much hence the post! My main queries are: - Can I apply for a student loan in Australia as a Permanent resident or do I need to be there for 2 years before I can apply? - Does anyone know what the rough costs are for a domestic student? As I've been trying to figure it out on the Canberra University page and I have no idea what they are going on about .. for example EFTSL - what is this!? How much does a unit cost? Domestic Undergraduate/Postgraduate Student with a Commonwealth Supported Place : Student and Academic Services : University of Canberra Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks all! Emma

Not sure if this is the right place to post this so Mods pls move if you want :jiggy: At home I’m lucky in the respect that I have a cleaner and also a local shop that does ironing and I’m wondering if I will be able to afford to carry this on here in Oz wether it be by hiring a local person who wants a bit of extra income or via a professional cleaning company? Does anyone know what kind of wage you would expect to be paid as a domestic cleaner that also irons? Also do you think it would be easy to find someone to do this and where could I advertise or find someone? Many Thanks Emma X

  18. Considering Oz is a large place, you'll more than likely be needing to fly if wanting to go to another major city. Some domestic carriers are... http://www.jetstar.com.au http://www.virginblue.com.au http://www.qantas.com.au You can get some pretty cheap flights, but booking well in advance is advised. As in the UK, booking online is the cheapest way to get a good fare.
