  1. Hi there, My husband and I moved from UK to Sydney in 2001 and then moved back to the UK in 2005 with a 1 year old son so that he could grow up around family. After living back in the UK for 4 years, we have decided to move back out to Sydney because I feel it is a better place to bring up my son. He will be starting Kindy in Jan 2009 and we will be moving to either Baulkham Hills or Castle Hill. I was thinking of putting him in the Hills Private Grammar School but I have heard that the Primary Schools in the Hills District are just as good. Does anyone know if this is true and if so, could someone give me some advice as to which of the Primary Schools in Baulkham Hills/Castle Hill are best so that we can make sure that we rent in the catchment for the school. Thanks in advance. Vanita
  2. Hi, Does anyone have any opinions or information on these schools. There seems to be many private schools in the area, but most seem very religious, and wondered if anyone had children that attended these schools Coolum High, Noosa District and Sunshine Beach High. Any comments would be appreciated thanks
  3. Hi there I'm a 28 year old single mum of three looking to meet new people in the Hills District/Kellyville Ridge area to catch up for coffees and have some fun girlie nights out. I've lived in Sydney for 4yrs now and have made alot of friends but they are all a little older than me and are not really Interested in going out as much as I am. I have recently separated from my husband who I was with for 15 years, I would love to meet up with some fun outgoing people and start a fresh. Chat soon Tara x
  4. Hi I am 37 and moving over to Sydney in Feb with my husband and two daughters aged 4 and 3 and would love to meet up with other mums with young children as soon as we can. Until mid-march we will be living in an apartment then plan to rent in the Hills District. Now that Christmas and New Year has passed reality is kicking in that soon I will be over there with no friends or family to chat to or meet up with. I am really looking forward to moving but also anxious about being lonely for a while. Mind you my girls will keep me going! If anyone in a similar position or has suggestions for playgroups in the Hills District please get in touch. Thanks Lisa

    The Ponds - Hills district

hi guys We should be moving into our rental in the next few weeks and wanted to know if anyone knows any activites, community, kids clubs, get togethers, really wanna start meeting people. I have 2 kids boy 7 and girl 3.... Look forward to hearing from you Thanks
  6. We are considering Cherrybrook/West Pennant Hills area as we have 2 young children and it looks like we can get a house with space around the $1000 per week mark. 1. what are the local primary schools like? Any particularly good/any particularly bad? 2. I will likely have to commute to the CBD (Wynyard). The 131500 website tells me a Hills bus can get me from that area to Wynyard in 41 mins...Im not buying thats true as it seems too quick? Is it? Does anyone do that commute..I currently commute from Surrey to London Bridge daily so Im used to commuting an hour per day. My main concern is reliability as Ill be racing to get home before after school care shuts  thanks

    Hills District

Hello We are moving to Sydney in September, and have been looing at some of the areas in the Hills district. We have two boys one and three years old and wan to be in a nice family area with good schools, parks etc. My husband travels about an hour into work now in the uk so he doesn't mind a bit of travelling, but just womdered how far areas such as West Pennant Hills, Baulkham Hills etc are from central Sydney and how easy is the commute?
  8. Hello PIO Just thought I'd start a wee thread to chat to some folk about how they view life in NSW (or any other part of Australia if you feel like it). We have our case worker now, our medicals are booked for July and after almost 3 years it's almost time to move. I have a job on a drillship, flying in and out of Sydney on a 28 on/28 off rota and I'm looking forward to my first 4 week break over there!! We are planning on staying in the Hills district, I have some family in that area, we have 2 kids (3 & 6). Looking forward to getting thing moving from over here, shipping, flights, etc. I'm not expecting it to be easy but my main worry was employment and that has been sorted out now. Now the important matter of "What time do I have to wake up to watch the Premier League?" Anyway, just chat back, small talk, big talk, whatever you want. Cheers Mark

    Sevens Hills District

Hi I have been looking at potential suburbs for a move planned for February 2011. I have found that Seven Hills seems to have a fantastic train line into central Sydney but properties appear larger/cheaper than areas such as Castle Hill/Baulkham Hills. Does anyone have any knowledge of (or live in) Seven Hills that you could share with me? Thanks Cara

    Hills District

I am a stay at home mum in my very early 30's (still think I'm 18 half the time). I have a 10 month old little boy and have another one on the way. I have met a few people at mothers groups etc but most have gone back to work now which leaves me a bit bored on some afternoons!!! Anyone living locally that fancies meeting up?

  14. Hi, I'm exploring my options ahead of starting work in Darling Harbour in a couple of weeks, and as well as the usual suspects (The Shire, North Shore etc), I like the look f the Hills (Castle Hill, W Pennant Hills etc). I see that there are express busses which look to take about an hour, just wondered if anyone had experience of the commute, i.e. how reliable, can you usually get a seat, cost etc? Many Thanks, Mike
  15. Hi, We're moving in the next couple of months to probably the Hills District...at this time thinking of trying to rent in Pennant Hills or close by. My daughter currently attends (P2) a local catholic school and I'm looking for some recommendations on schools in this area. We're intending to rent - around $500/$550 mark. So we also need to ensure that we can afford to rent in the area of the recommended school. We're not fixed on her going to a catholic school. Any thoughts/recommendations appreciated.

How are you finding Sydney? Or do you wish you had moved to a different state? We like it one minute then hate it the next.. I think we're still trying to adjust. tara
  21. Anyone out there fancy getting together for drinks one night - our place, kids welcome. Boards are packed full of Brizzy & Perth Poms, so it'd be nice to find out where the Sydneyites are and get to meet some of you. I'm thinking 3rd May, 6.30-7pm. Who can make it?

    Hills District, Sydney

Hi, My husband and I are just starting the migration process. If we do finally make the move, it will be to Sydney. Our main concern, like most, is whether we can actually afford to live anywhere nice. We have two girls and are looking for a good family area. We have been looking at the Hills District which is within our budget. I would be grateful if anyone could give me there opinions on the area (schools etc.) good or bad and also, what the commute to central Sydney is like as the OH will be working there. Many thanks Peeps. Victoria
  23. Hi ya Im a qualified nurse in uk at the moment and have applied for the 175 visa but seems to be taking ages and i am really fed up having to do the ILETS ENGLISH test again. My background is Oncology/ palliative care (hospital based) and are now currently working in the district and realy enjoy this role. Do you know if they do district/community nursing in Perth.? Dont realy fancy working back in hospital again (nights and all that). Not sure whether to go over to the sponsored route cause i may have to work some were not to my liking and if i dont like my job i would be stuck. Maybe i could consider a practice nurse position. Oh decisions decisions:err: is there any district nurses out there?????

  25. What better way to start a Sunday morning than getting together with a few fellow Brits? (I'm sure someone will list all the better ways you could start a Sunday!!!!). Anyway, get yourselves over to the Hills District - bring a plate of something simple to share and whatever takes your fancy to drink at that time of day. 10.30am onwards. That way you've still loads of time left to do whatever you usually do on a Sunday! Kids/spouses etc all very welcome. PM me for address & phone no. etc.
