  1. Hello everybody, first of all let me apologise If I have started a new topic where I shouldn't have, I have never used forums before. . I submitted the nomination and application for 186 direct entry on Jan 21 2017 as a graphic post press trades-person. I have been waiting for 13 months and my lawyers have not been contacted once ! The only thing my lawyers always say is to wait. This uncertainty is nerve wrecking , also this occupation apparently is no longer on the list. Does anyone knows if this affects the application and / or processing times? Do we know if the processing times for 186 direct entry vary according to occupation. Thanks in advance for any info.. Any advice would be appreciated. I have posted this message in other topics but I don't have not received one reply, so my best guess is that It is in the wrong section of the forum. This wait is really affecting me and my dependant.

    direct flights with toddler

Hi all I am in the process of looking for flights to Canberra in Jan. I am trying to decide if it is better to go with Emirates with a stopover in Dubai or pay less and fly direct with Qantas. My son is 2 1/2yrs he has managed 3 hrs to Menorca before but I am not sure he would manage 22hrs in one go! Has anyone done either of these options with toddlers or babies, how did they handle the flights? Thanks Kate

    Travel Insurance Direct

As anyone used them? I am meeting up with my mother in Hong Kong in a couple of months and need to take out a travel insurance, the problem is it doesn't look like I will be covered for any pre existing conditions which is fair enough, BUT, what I want to know is if I cancel a) because I am unfit to travel or b) my mum (god forbid) couldn't travel would I be able to cancel and claim my money back?
  4. Hiya was wondering if anybody has had any success in flying their dog by contacting the cargo department of any airlines directly and bypassing any agent. I know that BA world cargo will not deal with the general public and will only use agents on their behalf, however I was wondering if anybody has managed to do it with any other airline? Sarah

    Direct Entry Midwives

Hello! I am just about to qualify as a midwife, i was not a nurse first so i have done the 3 year course. I just wondered if there is any midwives out there that know about the acceptance of direct entry midwives in Oz and how much experience is generally required. I already have a job secured in the UK which i want to work in for a year but i am desperate to move to Australia so dont want to leave it much longer than this. Also, my partner does not hold a job on the skilled occupation list, would he be eligible to come over on my visa? We are living together but are not married. I would be really grateful for any help. I have looked in so many places for information and i keep getting different answers! Thanks
  7. Any else had problems booking flights with Jetstar and paying via their Direct Deposit system? Made a booking on the 26th May 2011, payment was made the same day via their Direct Deposit system but we are now being told there is no record of them receiving the payment. Have had confirmation from our bank it was received by their account, have sent Jetstar fax with all relevant information and heard nothing back! Our flight is on Friday 10th June. No joy at all (or helpful advice) from the one and only number we have for them in Australia. Anyone been through the same thing? Any ideas how to resolve it? Thanks
  8. Hi, im trying to clarify what the course of action would be on expiration of a 457/two year work visa in relation to securing permanent residency.. Ie. I am querying whether it would be better/easier/cost effective to apply for full Permanent residency now or to take up a 457 visa for 2 years and to then apply for permanent residency; i.e. are the full permanent residency fees the same/the same course of action (medical/skills assessment) necessary if I have been resident in Australia on a 457 for 2 years.... Any help greatly appreciated. Liam
  9. Has any one sent or have arranged to send their pet on a flight direct from Manchester to Australia? Golden Arrow who are in Shropshire send animals from Manchester but they have to change at Heathrow. I don't want that extra unloading and loading on to another plane, which will stress her and add extra time to her flight.
  10. I'm in England as I can't get a permanent visa, and my girlfriend in Oz. We've been apart for three months and have another 3+ months ago. We have 7 days in October to meet somewhere and time constraints mean it has to be a single flight from Perth. We were thinking about Hong Kong but the prices have sky-rocketed in the last few days, so we need somewhere cheaper. I don't want to go to: Indonesia, Malaysia, or Singapore. I need ideas of where to go. Vietnam could be a possibility, but are there direct flights? I looked into Bangkok with Thai Airways but the flight times aren't that good. What I really want to know is which airlines fly to what locations!? A list of Airlines would be useful. I've tried: Qantas (KL, Singapore, etc) Jetstar (KL, Singapore, etc) Singapore Airlines (Singapore) Malaysian Airlines (KL) Thai Airways (Bangkok but awkward flight times) Air Asia (only KL and Indonesia) ...? I'm starting to panic as if this week falls through I don't know what I'll do. Probably head to Australian immigration on a rampage...

  15. Hi All, Very new to PIO. Just registered yesterday. Have introduced myself as a newbie on the Welcome threads. Business Sponsored 457 visa submitted last week and been told it takes 4-8 weeks. So looking at mid Sept move out there if all goes well. In the meantime I trying to get my head round all the things I need to do. One of the questions I have is around a couple Direct Debits I have that comes out of my current account. I know one way to deal with it is to pay off the loans before I leave. How did other people deal with it? Have you just kept a UK account going and trasfer money into that every month? Is taht quite costly in terms of trasfer and exchange rate costs? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Marc (31)
  16. Hi Everyone, When it comes time to wind everything up in the UK, and you close your accounts with utility companies etc – (In my case, phone companies….) confirm when the last payment will be taken from your account by the phone company. After the final payment has been taken from your account, CANCEL your direct debit. If you use online banking, do not simply cancel the DD on there – phone your bank and do it. And make sure that they cancel ALL DDs to that particular company. A particular phone company has a reputation for setting up not one, not two, but THREE direct debits when you sign up with them. When you simply cancel your DD online, they will just take more money against one of the other 2 remaining DDs.:jimlad: We did contact the phone company (on about 4 occasions now) and they could not explain how they were able to take the money, and, as we had cancellation references, they were full of promises to refund us the money. (This started in February, and we’re still waiting!!) I had to contact our bank in the UK to find out what was going on, and how they were able to continue to take money out of our account. The lady at the bank explained the business of the 3 DD’s on our account. She also said that there were other companies who worked the same way – she named some well known gyms and internet providers. The bank was very good and refunded us the money as they could see we had cancelled the DD twice already, however it is a real pain in the backside when you need to resolve issues like this from half way around the world!! Save yourself the headache!! Cheers Jules
  17. I was amazed and gobsmacked to find out that if you wish to cancel a direct debit here it doesn't work in the same way as it does in the UK. I informed the company, gave them notice of cancelling the contract and requested that the payment be stopped, nothing different there. I then went into the bank and asked them to cancel it from their end. Erm sorry, no can do. What???? Do you mean I have no control over my account that if the company try to take more money as they are so often wont to do they can and I can't stop them? Afraid so, they don't have the system in place to do this. I'm sorry but I've never heard anything more ridiculous in my life, I worked in banking in the Uk and I find it very hard to believe that in this day and age they don't have the facillity to implement this. So word of warning, if you cancel a direct debit, watch your account like a hawk.....:policeman:
  18. Is this a good idea? I have passed my skill assessment an gained an AQF3, so getting through the TRA process I am not worried about. Just wanted to know if anyone as done and passed the online visa process on immi.gov.au? and how straight forward it was. Was going to use an agent but after providing alot of paperwork for the skill assessment without any hickups, I am more kean to give the visa a go also. Any thoughts appreciated. Mark. AQF3 acquired 10th March
  19. I thought to share the following information with you all. There exist a need in the Australian job market where employees can communicate directly to prospective employers who are looking for suitable employment. This is all part of finding the hidden job market where positions exist but according to recruitment agents they cannot find suitable candidates. Until now; I came across this website Home • Mineblogger • Connecting People and Resources. Jody Elliott is the innovative drive behind this concept and with permission I publish her email to me below: “This is only phase one – our intent is to assist employers to become comfortable with the idea of blogging or posting messages and engaging with candidates in bite sizes and in a less formal sense. Our ultimate objective is to create the premier website for the Australian Resources Sector which includes a job board, blogging, video conferencing, candidate profiles, and webpages for every employer that can be changed as often as they wish..... and a whole lot more. It is intended that we create a hub for employers only (no agencies) and where candidates don’t have to search every careers page – it’s all there at their fingertips. Industry are moving away from SEEK because it’s too full of agencies. If you click on now, only 10% of the nearly 5,000 oil, gas and mining jobs are posted by employers. The problem is then, there is no aggregated location for all direct employer opportunities. That is just one of the gaps we will fill. The idea of the blog is to provide the background story to the job opportunity. As an industry, we are extremely poor at communicating the real story to candidates. As Manager Recruitment with BHP Billiton, I was extremely frustrated that I couldn’t quickly and effectively communicate when we were doing roadshows, how many applications were received for apprenticeships and why so many wouldn’t have got a shot, what specific projects were underway in our organisation etc. Trying to change the average careers webpage is nearly impossible for large organisations. Your question is probably best answered by creating an individual login and reading what is already on the blog posts. We’re just preparing this week’s which will go live Sunday night/Monday morning. We provide a balance between where the career opportunities are now and coming down the track, together with educating candidates on job search strategies and skill specific to our industry. I hope this assists. Kind regards, Jody Jody Elliott, Chief Blogger E: info@mineblogger.com.au Please post your finding.

  24. Hi all, we are going to Melbourne in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone who has tavelled a direct flight with a baby had coped. We have a 9 yr old and a 9 month old and feel that a direct flight would be better as there will not be the chaos of a change over. Would anyone recommend this rather than achange over with a few hours in between or a stop over to sleep at a hotel and restart the next day. Any experiences will be greatly appreciated. many thanks in advance, Jodie X:skeptical:
