  1. Hi all, Have convinced hubby to start his skills assessment (finally) but now he’s feeling stumped because he has to do a recognition of prior learning. He’s mainly in a panic because he has no idea of what is expected of this document, general layout, level of detail etc… Is there anyone out there who has successfully completed a RPL for Developer Programmer (261312) or something similar? If so, would you be willing to allow my husband to take a look at all (or parts) of your RPL? He is perfectly capable of writing his, so he has no intentions of plagiarism, but has encountered this gigantic mental block that’s keeping him from progressing! He just needs to see whats expected. Thanks everyone.

    ACS assessment

Hi all, I need some brain storming about assessment. I did assessment with ACS 1,5 year ago for first time. I apply for position as Developer Programmer and I got negative assessment with results that my UNI is as minor in IT and they recognize my experience as 5 years and 2 months. For positive assessment with minor in IT is minimum 6 years required. I waited to have 6 years of experience and my agent recommend me do assessment for different potion as Web Developer. And they recognize my UNI as Major in IT and they didn't recognize some of my experience as before. But my assessment was Positive because of UNI as Major. My position from previous job was Developer. So it's something between Developer Programmer and Web Developer. What do you think can I try to apply again for Developer Programmer with 6 years of experience? I need assessment for this position because of new state sponsorship. I don't want to upset ACS and have some trouble that one I applied for one position and after for other. Both of them are really close. Thanks for your ideas and tips. :xmas3:
  3. Hi everybody , This is my situation , I am currently living with my Australian girlfriend in UK . We are planning on moving together in Australia, she live in Sidney . We do have evidences prooving that we live together for more than one year in UK. I was wondering what case is posible, or not, cheaper , or more expensive , so basically which one would be the best. - Going on holidays visa for one year, and then working in IT somewhere and try getting sponsored. - Going on holidays visa for one year , and THEN applying for a partner visa when we are already in Australia. - Applying for a partner visa in UK, and go in Australia with this one. I am working as a developer in IT, but this kind of visa is really expensive so I didn't really get more informations about this one. Thank you for your ideas and your answers guys. Have a good day !

    .NET Developer Job Hunting

Hi everyone, My girlfriend and I are both considering moving to Australia either, Sydney or Melbourne, but want to ask people's advise on the job situation at present. We have contacted many recruitment agencies regarding jobs but none of them will consider us until we are actually in Australia. I am a Microsoft Certified C# .NET developer with an ISEB qualification in Solution and Enterprise architecture with 5 years experience within the Financial Services sector. What are the prospects of me getting a job in Australia at present? We are considering coming out to Australia on a 12 month working holiday visa, as we are both under the age of 30 to asses the situation as we have heard mix reviews on the current job climate. Ideally I would like to get sponsored to allow us to move quicker but are also finding this difficult. What are peoples opinions on this? Regards Ben

  14. Hi, Can someone tell me if I'm eligible for NSW SS? I've applied to ACS for 261312, and it's currently with assessor. I read somewhere today that NSW will only sponsor me if i'm a Java developer or an Oracle expert? I'm a .NET developer with over 4 years experience. Can anyone tell me if i can get NSW State sponsorship? Thanks, David
  15. Hi Like many, we're considering the big move. We're still in the very early days of discussions, but each time we end up at the same conclusion: - "Why not?". Would really appreciate any advice on the following, as it may put an end to the dream, meaning we can get on with our lives here, or it may give us more incentive to actually do something about it. First up, my wife and I are both approaching 43/44, so I believe the pressure's on (if the cut-off age is 45). I currently run my own web design / development business. I'm a sole trader, and do a mix of work for my own clients, as well as some work for other agencies. I make a decent living out of this. Question 1: would it be feasible for me to emigrate and keep the business running, maintaining my UK client base, while hopefully gaining new clients in Australia. And if so, what would be the tax implications? Question 2: if moving the business wasn't an option, I'm an experienced web developer / designer / programmer, and my wife's a secondary school teacher. Would we need jobs before arriving, or could we get in based on the desirability of our skills? I've been working for myself for 5 years now, and I don't relish the thought of going back to the 9-5, (even if it was in a warmer climate and we had a bigger house!) so ideally I'd like to just keep doing what I'm doing. I've tried googling for similar situations but haven't managed to find any. Many thanks in advance for any help or advice!
  16. Hi, Do not fall into the same position as thease unfortunate people. Search on Facebook "People in Dallyellup waiting for a fence":arghh:. It tells the story of people who have purchased blocks of land and then got stung. Cheers Mike

  18. Hi There, I'm in the process of applying for ACS skills assessment, but, really confused about nominating my occupation as Analyst Programmer (261311) or Developer Programmer (261212). I've a IT degree with a lot of Software Engineering/Programming related subjects. Find below my duties/responsibilities: Understanding business/technical requirements Communicating with the client team to clarify and finalise ambiguous or incomplete business/technical requirements Developing applications as per the technical requirements specification Reviewing developed program code Developing of test scripts used in unit testing Documenting test results Fixing defects detected during the unit testing phase Ensuring high-quality throughout the process I'd be thankful if someone can help me with selecting an occupation. (I've observed that a lot of people opt for Developer Programmer and only a few for Analyst Programmer. Is this just me?) Thanks, armandra!
  19. Hi All, I had plannin on submitting my 2231-79 (.net) skills assessment on saturday, but I see it's no longer on the SOL list. I've checked the schedule 3 doc (http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/sol-schedule3.pdf), and 2231-79 is no longer listed. But 2231-17 (Applications & Analyst Programmer) is. I've read on some sites, that 261312 requires 5+ years experience? I've got a Bachelors degree + over 4 years experience. The ACS PASA doc states that I'll be group A if i have a bachelors degree, with 2+ years experience. Can someone tell me the official line on getting 261312 assessment? Would 2213-17 be equivalent to 261312? Any help much appreciated - my head is fried. David
  20. Hi Folks, I am a Java/J2EE developer with over 11 years of experience, and my wife is a Software QA professional with over 6 years of experience. I was planning to apply for a 175 visa and got my ACS evaluation done. However, recent mails about the delays in getting a 175 visa got me thinking about 176. As per the link http://www.business.nsw.gov.au/migration/pdfdocuments/STNI_Criteria_STNI_Skilled.pdf, I can apply for State/Territory sponsorship in NSW, working in Sydney was all that I was looking for anyway. However, when I thought about the restriction of working in NSW for the initial 2 years, many questions popped into my mind and I hope folks here can help me out with these. 1) I heard that the initial 2 years is just a commitment sought by the State, but not a legal restriction that can affect me in future like in getting citizenship (found this is this forum). Is this true? Please don't construe this as a ploy to get SS and then break my commitment. My wife and myself prefer to work in the Sydney area, but what will happen if after a year due some market condition, employment in Sydney gets really tough but employment in Melbourne gets better/easier. How would I be able to stick to my commitment when I don't have a job? Of course this is purely hypothetical, but I couldn't find any documentation on the DAIC site that clarifies this query. 2) What is the difference in processing times between 175 and 176? Is it just a 6 months wait? 3) How long will it take to get a NSW SS and then 176? 4) Given my wife's and my profile, do you think NSW is the right choice, employment wise, when compared to Victoria? I know that I can get a feel of the job reqt from seek.com.au, but I would appreciate it if you could share your experience. Cheers, Ryan.
  21. Hi all, I have been going through following portals for a IT job search for a developers position (C/Linux/Unix) or an linux/unix adminstrators position. p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; } www.seek.com.au www.careerone.com.au www.mycareer.com.au The initial impression i get is quite demoralizing, as I could find only less than 5 jobs in SYD from the above portals, which disappeared less than 1 day time before I could apply. Also looking for linux administrator openings, but I could see around less than 50 jobs. This is out of 4k-5k job in IT in SYD. Are there any other portals / forums I am missing out ? I also heard that mostly the IT job market works on referrals. Is this true, if so how do I go about networking in a place where I am new to ? Can you suggest good consutants / HR recruiters whom I should apply with ? I am a little concerned now. Please provide your valuable suggestions and feebback. Greatly appriciate and help! Thanks in advance.

    C# Developer or C# Specialist

Hi there, I have nominated 2231-79 Computing Professionals, and i'll be applying for ACS assessment. But I have one confusion for the MODL description, and that is, what should i write: C# developer or C# Specialist. I have earned distinction in C++ and professionally done projects with major in C#. I know in the end it will ACS to decide, but at least from my end what would be better. Thanks a lot. Waiting for a kind reply.
