  1. Just wanted to start a thread for painters and decorators. my husband runs his own painting business here in ireland. we're returning to live in brisbane in june and he wants to start subing for some builders.. i'm not sure.. any advice? he's planning on working for somebody when we first go out just to get a feel for things out there again but then wants to go out on his own again. he said subing is different to working for yourself as you are just working for a builder.. is that right? any first hand knowledge of how it works out there would be good. we both have aussie citizenship so are lucky we don't need visas or stuff.. my parents, who live in brisbane, keep telling me there is heaps of work. I'm not sure how much to budget for rent etc as at the moment i don't know how much he might earn working for somebody or even for himself. any ideas, feedback or advice would be reallly good?

  5. Hi have been looking on this and other sites now for about 3 weeks trying to get the ball moving on a move to OZ! thing is im a painter and decorator and dont hear much said about the trade. Just wanted to get somthin started. Does anyone have some info (mainly on wages) on the demand for p&d's over there, whats the best area, how much we can earn and so forth or if anyone has any contact details for a p&d who is out there doing it. 6. Hi all, does anyone know the avg wage for a painter and decorator either in sydney or Melbourne/ all help really appreciated Thanks
  7. Hi, My boyfriend and I are thinking of emigrating to Mandurah. He's a painter and decorator so we were wondering what he could expect to earn. Ideally he would first like to be employed by a company while he gets used to the areas etc. He'd then like to go self employed. He's got over 18 years experience and is fully qualified. Also, i don't suppose anyone reading this works for (or knows someone else who works for) the Australian Government? i work for the Welsh Government so was just wondering what the salary scales are. If someone could help, i'd be really grateful. Thanks Beth
  8. Hi All I need some kind-hearted Painters & Decorators who have passed their TRAs to lend a hand to a young couple who have joined Poms in Oz today, please. The lady is called Katypritchard. Please see Page 16 of this thread: http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/45100-visa-connection-closed-down-urgent-read-16.html Katy & Hubby, both aged about 26, saved like mad to pay some £3,000 to Visa Connection in Ediburgh to pay VC to help them with thair TRA application and then their visa application. Less than a fortnight ago, VC suddenly ceased trading. There are no indications that the owner of the business intends to return a cent of the money to the clients and she does not say whether or not the business had professional indemnity insurance either. Katy & Hubby cannot afford to pay another agent to help them. Please, please, I need Painter & Decorator volunteers (plus marknhelen) to ride to the rescue and give Katy & Hubby a hand with their TRA application, please. Katy is new to internet forums so she has not got the hang of how they work, yet, but hopefully she is getting there with this aspect. Many thanks for any help at all. Best wishes Gill :notworthy:
  9. Hi Painters & Decorators I know that a lot of you are struggling to find Sponsors because you have been "caught" by the closure of TRA Skilled Pathway D last September. It has now been confirmed that there are two separate companies which can now assess your skills in the UK, with a view to the issue of an AQF III Certificate and I am not sure what else. Provided that you are also able to demonstrate at least 4 years of full-time, recent, relevant work-experience as Painters & Decorators, then you may well be able to obtain positive skills assessments under TRA Skilled Pathway E instead. Armed with the skills assessments, many of you would be able to revert to Plan A and skilled independent visas for Oz. The prices quoted by the two companies are quite divergent but I believe that one offers more "add ons" than the other, though I know too little about this to have any information about the details. The websites for the two companies are here: ACTS UK | Welcome to Trade Train http://www.cricos.************.com.au/ With the latter, I may have found the wrong bit of their website but use Contact Us and e-mail them. If the forum software alters the web address, try www.sil-vertrow-el.com.au but remove both hyphens from the company name. Please see this thread as well: http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/34564-aqf.html Please also check the requirements for TRA Skilled Pathway E via the link below: http://www.workplace.gov.au/NR/rdonlyres/FA0FD1E1-8B74-4C11-AFBB-2C159890FF80/0/UniformAssessmentCriteriaSeptember2007.pdf If you are in any doubt about the requirements for TRA Skilled Pathway E then I would suggest that you contact Alan Collett of Go Matilda for advice. He is also able to explain the price-difference between the two companies above. I understand that there are valid reasons for it but I do not know the details. There are several ways to contact Alan Collett, who is based at Go Matilda's Melbourne Office. Please see below: Go Matilda - Your Gateway to Australia - Contact and Feedback PomsInOz Forum - View Profile: Alan Collett Or e-mail him direct on alan-at-gomatilda-dot-com Use common-sense to work out what to change, please! All other tradies: Please do not despair. If you feel that your own skill is being ignored, please at least e-mail both companies and Alan because if there is enough demand, I am sure that both companies plus Alan will do their best to find some assessors who can come to the UK and do the necessary, or make arrangements for the workplace assessments to be done in Australia instead. Best wishes Gill

  11. Just a quick thread if anyone is interested.... Had a generic email off our agent today stating that WA have added Painter and Decorator to their STNI list. This basically means they will sponsor Painters and Decorators for permanent visas to go anywhere in WA... Might be a way in for someone??!! Min x:wubclub:
